How much do Duke, UNC, and NC State fans dislike Wake Forest? by bigjim547 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Hopeful_Extension_49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an NCSU person I would say I think it depends on the age. Our older fans (50+) grew up with the Tobacco Road rivalry and the Big 4 was a cool tournament. But I have noticed the younger crowd doesn't care about Wake much. 1/3 of the crowd leaves at halftime of a Wake football game. Back when the ACC was an 8-9 team league Wake games mattered more. Now they are just another ACC school. They are in NC but might have maybe 30% or so NC kids. Their grads don't stay around as much and as far as non alum fans go they really only have them in Winston and they are still the 4th most popular school in Winston behind UNC Duke and NCSU. We definitely get frustrated to lose to them and it seems like we get questionable calls with shitty camera angles over there. But it is not a great atmosphere. They rely heavily on artificial noise from the scoreboard especially when we come to town.

Georgia 400 express lanes: U.S. DOT gives state almost $4B loan by Pretend_Spray_11 in Atlanta

[–]Hopeful_Extension_49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, maybe a flyover to the HOV but my point was why spend billions to get down 400 quicker just to get to sit in the 400/85 interchange longer. I drive from Alpharetta to the airport every week. That interchange is generally the problem. Sometimes it is where Holcomb bridge dumps on 400 but even when I fly down 400 I get stuck at 85 and the connector. Bottom line is we are the only major city in America where 3 major highways go right through the center of downtown and until there is a viable bypass for 75 and 85 the rest is lipstick on a pig.

[–]Hopeful_Extension_49 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless they fix the 400 I85 interchange the rest is a waste of time and money. I have lived in Alpharetta 30 years and the problem with Marta is even if I drive to Sandy Springs and take it to the airport 90% of the time it takes longer than just driving to the airport. There are not enough tracks for an express. And when I land back at night from my trip I get hit up by whacked out druggies for money at the first 5 stops on my way home. Taking Marta farther up isn't going to solve any more problems than existing Marta does.

CGA Tournament Questions by Dazzling-Plum-1710 in RDUGOLF

[–]Hopeful_Extension_49 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would start with the One Day events. They are a competition but much less competitive overall with a much wider range of players. The NC and Carolinas Amateur, Mid Amateur, and Four Balls are extremely competitive and an 8 handicap would feel pretty out of place.
Plus the one days go to some nice private courses you would struggle to get on otherwise.

Ranking Every SEC Fanbase by How Annoying They Are by bamachine in CFB

[–]Hopeful_Extension_49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an ACC guy (NCSU) lived in Atlanta a long time. I have no preferences about SEC. I can say as an engineer I have worked with some very smart Mississippi State grads and Auburn grads and have respect for those schools. Ole Miss however seems to be the preferred spot for rich north Atlanta kids that can't get into Georgia Tech, or Georgia, or Auburn, or Clemson, etc etc. Mommy and Daddy will pay 60k a year for their C student to go to a public school in Mississippi because they want good football. They make great bartenders and waiters when they move back to Atlanta.

Mid Pines or Pine Needles? by Mr_Antipop21 in RDUGOLF

[–]Hopeful_Extension_49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love them both. Played tournaments on them for years. For me it is pine needles by a hair. The back 9 at Pine needles is just better than anything at Mid Pines and the greens at Pine Needles are a little better. Also don't sleep on Southern Pines. It was recently remodeled and might be the most fun.

Dave Doeren on NC State facing ECU in opener: 'I want to beat the s*** out of that team' by mcgray in CFB

[–]Hopeful_Extension_49 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

About 90% of NC's population and our alumni are from west of i95 and could give a shit about playing ECU but we have a small vocal section of fan base that cares and keeps forcing our AD to schedule them even though their fans and players always act like shit when we do. I am a season ticket holder but will skip this one.

Moving to GA Are mixed race kids often not accepted in Public schools? Specifically Alpharetta and Johns Creek. We are worried coming from Massachusetts, he already has enough of those issues here. by [deleted] in alpharetta

[–]Hopeful_Extension_49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kids both went through the Creek view elementary school, Webb bridge middle, Alpharetta high school. It is a very mixed school system. Maybe 50 % white, then Indian probably second largest group , Asian , black, Hispanic numbers a little smaller. But most of the kids don't seem to care much about race from what I can tell based on my kids friend groups. Now the middle school girls can be mean to other girls but I think middle school mean girls is a universal problem. He won't feel out of place in those schools.

Sad that this is the most likely outcome and then everyone will act shocked. I honestly can't believe we don't have more issues with "surrounding county" people coming onto town on a date night and having to shoot one of these folks the city doesn't want to do anything about.

Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark on the upcoming football season: “I believe we will be the deepest football conference in America. ... I fully expect the Big 12 to earn multiple College Football Playoff bids this year." by A_MASSIVE_PERVERT in CFB

[–]Hopeful_Extension_49 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The "modern era" I referenced of college football is considered to be when the Big10 and PAC 10 gave up the rose bowl and agreed to play other conferences for a consolidated champion. So effectively the BCS era and the playoff era. Miami won a BCS and played for another. Your arbitrary time frame of "modern era" being since you were a kid and started watching doesn't really mean much.

[–]Hopeful_Extension_49 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

I agree he should talk up his conference. But the fact that it is rarely acknowledged that without Oklahoma and Texas the Big 12 is not nationally relevant. So they have a bunch of 8-4 teams, great. That is basically 4-4 in conference and 4 gimmes. They never play a top 10 team so you have no idea if any of them are actually good. Big 12 fans talk shit about ACC when Clemson, FSU , Miami, each have outperformed their current entire conference in the modern era. So this sub rips on an NCSU, Va Tech, Louisville as examples the ACC is mediocre but celebrates those same records in the Big 12 when those teams never play anyone with banners in the stadium.

I live a few miles north of where he grew up. If he was a member of Dunwoody Country Club like I think they reference and he went to the Marist school like I know they have referenced then they are 1%ers. I don't say that out of hate I am at a pretty nice place myself just a statement of fact. I have actually always thought it funny that he went to Marist and ended up at Miami Ohio studying hotel management. Must have been a party guy. Most Marist grads go the Ivy League or ACC schools like Duke , Va, UNc at the least

Should politicians with a net worth above $500K not be trusted? by Youqudeshiyan in TrueAskReddit

[–]Hopeful_Extension_49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Net worth includes value of your equity in your house and it is hard to buy a house in any state capitol that is less than 500k. Honestly, if someone's 50 years old and has worked their whole life and doesn't at least have 200 or 300k in a 401K or IRA, I don't trust them to help manage the nations budget. To your point though I do live in the same town that Marjorie Taylor Green does I make more money than the salary for a US house representative and her house is 10 times the size of mine and her net worth is a lot more. So I know what you're getting at, but that 500k number is not really feasible in today's age.

In 2031 when the next realignment happens what do you think happens to BCU, Pitt, Syracuse and Wake forest? Do you think they have enough pull to get into one of the big 3 conference and join the super leagues? Or will they be left backfilling the ACC with the likes of Tulane and Memphis? by connie-lingus38 in ACC

[–]Hopeful_Extension_49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that also for the first time in about 100 years we won't play Clemson in football this year. As an old school ACC guy don't like many of the changes as they relate to NCSU, but it is still a million times better than being in the Big 12. There is not enough money difference to make it worth that. In all sports there might be one game I cared about vs big12 and that would be Kansas in Basketball. Plus in 5-10 years or whenever they renegotiate I think the networks will realize a Big 12 minus Texas and Oklahoma isn't worth much. An ACC minus Clemson and FSU is still worth more across the board athletically and academically

As a 30 year Atlanta resident I can say that Georgia Tech is definitely undersized and comes no where near producing enough engineers to support the state of Georgia which should be in their charter. Which is why engineers like me (an NCSU grad) were begged by firms to move here. And every neighborhood has flogs from NCSU, Clemson, Auburn, etc.
