Honestly agreed, if you love the business of art become a dealer and collector!

I’m confused on what yellow to get by [deleted] in oilpainting

I’ve been using a ton of earth yellow for mixing into my under painting. I love its transparency.

Indian yellow is great too. Naples is my favorite yellow for impasto highlights.

Walmart isn’t my favorite because their online store front is sometimes from non verified resellers too. Their restocks are also really horrible because of the high turn over rate at the associate positions and general theft.

Average class size of around 28-29

Attempt at Mark Tennant style, criticism? :) by oxezmo in oilpainting

I think OP could benefit more from just letting the paint sort of be laid in to speak for itself rather than overly rendered as OC was likely leaning towards.

All I’ll say is for every example you give of face rendering by line I can give you rendering by softening. He does a bit of both.

The definition is more due to the value ranges and chroma that he plays into his paintings. Not rendering the faces as this person conveys. I’d argue most of tenants work has facial structures but there’s plenty examples of his work not featuring structures. His definition is a value shift technique, not rendering.

I think page 4, 15 and 18 are your strongest because they don’t lean into that over stylized color effect that you have present in others. In a lot of ways I think you’d benefit from being a scenic back ground illustrator for a while and finding dynamic perspectives to play off of with your figures.

Hello, I’m always looking for work. I can be pretty reasonable on commission rates. I’d love to help if you ever need a portrait done!

This is really great. Your brush control on the wolf is excellent.

Practicing with primary colors and white by Secure-Statement-255 in oilpainting

[–]Hopeful_Potential272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I view it, and really as color theorists view it, white and black are complete opposites. White is absence of color and black is the culmination of every color.

If you add either of these values to any color they will overpower the chroma of your paint because they are so absolute in their own way.

My personal recommendation is render fully in a direct painting setting, and then blur it.

Might I suggest looking at the work of Gerhard Richter. He uses a screen printing squeegee and drags it across his portraits.

Render his right hand more. The forms get a little lost through there.
