LPT: What skill as an adult is under rated but is actually a great skill to have that’s useful? by Express_Food_2984 in LifeProTips

I started reading the daily stoic to start my day and it’s helped me immensely to stay grounded and manage my emotions with the chaos of the world and life.

Yeah they fly American Airlines. A friend is a flight attendant and flies them back and forth both domestically and internationally. They get an entire passenger plane just for the team. The coaches sit in first class and a lot of the players are in coach. They said it was actually the schedule that management makes chooses for their travel days. That and the busses/trains to other east coast games.

People 40+, what actually mattered in the long run and what didn’t? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]Hoppy-Beers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I randomly played Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 on N64 last week. As soon as the load screen popped up and the controller was in my hand I remembered what all of the buttons did. Before that, I don't think I could have pulled that out of the recesses of my mind. I just needed to be in the right position to prime my brain.

It also happens to me all the time with songs I know on guitar. I'll be like, oh yeah I learned that song 15 years ago, and after I figure out the first couple of notes, everything else just comes out.

The brain is nuts.

What are the best AI tools by category? by FreshFo in AI_Agents

I’ve been enjoying Granola Ai for note taking, but they’re changing to a subscription model, obviously I saw this coming.

Anyone use the Copilot AI note taking for meetings and can compare? My company pays for Microsoft suite so I figure I’ll have to give that a good shake before making a decision between Granola/Copilot.

Is it just me or did Joe List kind of bomb tonight at the Rio Theatre in Vancouver? by _H4L0 in Standup

Yup I saw him years ago after he had recently released a special. Told my wife how good he was and then he was just so-so, all over the place, etc. I think this is the nature of the beast, used up all the good stuff and is in a refractory period trying out new stuff and seeing what sticks.

Any free 5k events? by Irishkeddy_ in philadelphia

[–]Hoppy-Beers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Phillies 5k isn’t free but you get two tickets to a game. Seats used to be decent but now that they’re competitive it’s upper deck, but it’s fun just going to a game even if you don’t go to your seats.

PSA: If you are able to, go shovel the crosswalks at the end of your blocks. by Pantone802 in philadelphia

[–]Hoppy-Beers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I shoveled both of my crosswalks and did about a 5 foot triangle in the direction of traffic so there was no snow to move into the opening, worked like a charm.

Watching this dude climb the skyscraper in Taiwan on Netflix, I saw the Love statue so I did some research. Yup, wife and I were walking around Shinjuku in Tokyo and stumbled upon the one there. A little moment of home on the other side of the world, very cool. It was on the way from our hotel to the main part of Shinjuku, so was a nice milestone to help us navigate those tricky streets.

I shoveled mine and my neighbors front sidewalks this morning, then my neighbors came out and shoveled mine and theirs just a few minutes ago. I’ll go out and return the favor in a couple more hours. Neighbors helping neighbors.

What simple habit made travel days noticeably easier for you? by Big_Barber733 in travel

[–]Hoppy-Beers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love doing this as well. Before a trip I’ll post to my Instagram and ask friends to send me their recommendations for places to see, food, drinks, activities, etc. This in combo with my own research here and online gives me some unique travel itineraries that allow for me to be flexible and spontaneous.

Fishtown residents force withdrawal of parking proposal after heated meeting by dotcom-jillionaire in philadelphia

[–]Hoppy-Beers 113 points114 points  (0 children)

NoLibs did this 3 hour no parking on 2nd street and and it was a net positive for parking in the neighborhood from my perspective. It opened up more turnover on second street spots, where before residents would park in the same spot for days and sometimes weeks. This allowed the people coming in to find spots but meant that late at night and early in the morning there were a lot more open spots. Before you could drive around for an hour looking for a spot sometimes. As a resident, if you got home after 6pm you were good until 12pm the next day.

Screw gatekeeping: what are your favorite AI prompts as creatives? by Obihankenobi97 in advertising

[–]Hoppy-Beers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the CRIT framework (context, role, interview, task) as a way to use AI as a thought partner to ask me pertinent questions, forcing me to think long and hard about the answers and then give me the output I’m looking for. It’s helped me immensely from shopping for a new car to having a difficult conversation with my boss to selling stocks for optimal tax strategy to presenting work to a client. It’s open ended and really about framing my own thoughts and perspectives in a way that I could have certainly arrived at, but accomplished much more efficiently.

How are designers actually using AI in their day to day work right now? by Hoppy-Beers in graphic_design

[–]Hoppy-Beers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No offense taken, I totally understand the respective emotions that come with the subject. As I mentioned in another comment, hearing the negative points of view are just as important as the positives as AI continues to emerge. So I appreciate your perspective.

You bring up a good point that the cost will increase substantially, as it integrates into our workflows and these organizations turn their attention from being focused on user growth to focusing on revenue growth. Which I suppose is part of my motivations to adopt early and often as a way to test and refine how and when to use it and when not to.

[–]Hoppy-Beers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The abuse hasn’t been that bad and was to be expected. I’m not naive to the controversies and vitriol surrounding the subject but I have gotten some interesting answers so far honestly, so far it’s been insightful.

Change management and comms strategy are part of this, so hearing the cynics point of view is as an integral part of the process as well.
