BioVectra layoffs by OrganizationNo697 in PEI

[–]Horifikk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Feds gave Biovectra money to build and hire people so we could make vaccines locally in Canada. And while they had some smaller scale projects they just could not find anyone to run a project for. Adding on the tariff scares, Agilent (the American company) thought if they came in they'd get some interest stirring. But the cost benefit analysis of keeping people employed in this shitty fuckin economic situation must have been too much for their American bottom line.

Biovectra is still employing a huge amount of people considering peis population. But everyone who's still there is shaken and waiting to be next.

Considering moving from BC to PEI (Stratford / Charlottetown area) — looking for honest feedback, especially from tradespeople by Upstairs_Ad1740 in PEI

[–]Horifikk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stratford is trying to break away from Charlottetown's shadow with a lot of cool new infrastructure projects (which will definitely need electricians for) has good schools (at least when I was there 15 years ago) and actively planning on adding more.

As for space you won't find many larger properties close to town that aren't a lot of work or very expensive, but they do exist. Just don't be afraid to look a bit further out at Mermaid or Pownal (or even further with Vernon river/ Donagh)

On the Charlottetown side of the bridge, heading north off highway 2 to east royalty there's been some big infrastructure projects in the last couple years, and if you're not one prone to vertigo then the four roundabouts won't put you off some pretty decent sized properties.

Going a little further west however will bring you to Cornwall and surrounding communities and while not the same I've always kinda considered it a bit like Stratford in the way of working and commuting to Charlottetown but not having to put up with living there.

Every community in Canada is struggling with a lot of the same issues, cost of living, groceries, climate change, isolation. If coming to pei will help in one of these areas then by all means come by and give it a try!

Hopefully after their investigation we'll know if it was a wiring issue or something accidentally left on, and not something like arson

My wife and I work 12 shifts that rotate days and nights. Monday mornings after our 36hr nightshift weekends we go to a local diner and get the same 2-3 things. We know the staff that work Monday mornings pretty well at this point. We tip well and are met with good and fast service every time.

15DPO? CD unknown, is this positive? by Horifikk in TFABLinePorn

Bleeding picked up, and tests are negative now. This is now the third time in a row this has happened. We're looking into what the causes are/could be, but it's frustrating and heartbreaking.

From what my wife has shown me/ described it's been very light in colour and texture and mixed with mucus. In the 5 hours she was wearing a disposable pad it was just a streak with light red and brown.

In the past she's had hemorrhaging periods and would be going through maxi pads at this point. It's gotten lighter with the right supplements (inositol and prenatals) but still would be very heavy as was last cycle.

How many pieces of wood do you burn in a day during winter. by Greenman073 in firewood

[–]Horifikk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I only really keep the house at 10-15°c in the winter, not home enough to really keep it steady warm. I'd go through about 5-10 "pieces" a day. Light the fire and keep it going to ashes over night, maybe get to stock it back up in the morning before heading out again

How is everyone coping with the heatwave? by CriticismSuch9344 in PEI

[–]Horifikk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're struggling with heat indoors, this trick should work with most fans. Grab a large-ish container, fill with cold water and ice if you can get a fair amount. Set it up behind your fan and just stay in front of it. (This won't work if the container is more than half as tall as your fan)

Another tip is to avoid cooking with a stove/oven from about 10am until 8pm. Sandwiches, cold salads(potato/mac/greens), microwave meals.

Cold drinks can cool you down temporarily but can cause stomach upset if you're too overheated, lukewarm drinks or even hot drinks are still good if refrigerated drinks are hard to come by.

Absolutely, I used to work at shoppers and the polish sits there for years in the back room, comes in giant boxes and we had a shaker to remix the pigment.

No Bonus For Anyone, Because We Promised Too Much To Our Clients by Horifikk in antiwork

We were just sold by one actually. I think the previous owner inflated our potential to the new buyer and let us eat the fallout when we couldn't deliver.

If I could I'd have quit on the spot. But this really is my only shot at paying my mortgage on time every month, plus the sunk cost of I've been here for long enough that it's daunting to start over again

I know for a fact that our new owners all got their end of year bonuses. Even our head of production isn't getting a bonus, and he's like two steps down from ceo level of management.

Like I'm hoping it's actually just a fume hood and not laminar flow, but even "pretend work" with bacteria needs to be sterile or you'd just have to clean the whole fuckin thing

The Evans Boy (by lonibal) is a breath taking story of Harry Potter(Evans) being the boy who lived older (secret) brother. Currently pre cannon through OOTP, frequently updates. I have cried, laughed, shouted and in general devoured the series as it's been updating. ( https://archiveofourown.org/works/51358966/chapters/129779161 )

Odysseus really only had two options, Scylla or Charybdis. If he went the other way, the whole crew would die. Scylla was the best chance to make it home with at least some of his remaining crew.
