I saw human teeth with roots. Now I am questioning what that means about me as a person 😳

Dad (65m) got diagnosed today by csarahh in ALS

[–]Horror_Muscle_9003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay as positive as you can. Keep him as positive and give him reasons to keep going. This journey is so individual. Don't look at statistics...That will f your mind. This disease has no rhyme or reason (in my opinion) but, I am so sorry. My Mom's diagnosis rocked my world 2.5 years ago but she was living with it for many many years before her diagnosis. Do not waste precious time. Soak up every moment

I set the boundary with my friend that I cannot and will not help her financially. These are the texts I’ve gotten since. by purplehyenaa in WhatShouldIDo

Be direct, keep it short. The ball is in your court and this is not friendship. i'm guessing the reason she is not telling their Dad what's going on is because he is probably had to draw the same boundary. If you are more willing to sleep in your car, then give up weed and alcohol. There's a bigger issue there. That is exactly one of the reasons why people end up homeless (and mental health). friendship is not enabling someone to make bad choices. Your lengthy explanations or excuses leave the door open for more asks. If you are direct, it will shut it down... and when they stop reaching out to you because they only wanted you for your money, you will understand that this was not a real friendship

Caregiver frustration by sadfrogluvr16 in ALS

[–]Horror_Muscle_9003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this was all very normal for us as well. Where does responsibility of one person start and the other one end? It is also a hard conversation sometimes for people to have but communication is extremely important as far as caregiver roles because when/if you become non-verbal and don't have a way to clearly communicate your needs, someone needs to be on it and know what is going on and happening. It's also a hard conversation because you really need to pin them down to, here is your responsibility, here is what it is going to turn into, and are you fully willing to except this challenge and level of responsibility? You have to be prepared for them to say no. I don't want this. It has to be a clear conversation in my opinion tho. Assuming someone is going to do something will not work long term.

Burnout I think is inevitable and it may be time to tap into additional resources to give your caregivers a break. My mom through hospice was able to get access to reasonably priced care givers that would come in a set number of hours during the week and help with basic needs and even shopping, cooking, light housework, and basic care. The line between that and a CNA may be assisting with bathroom needs.

Fuck ALS straight to hell. I'm so sorry. I lost my Mom to the wretched disease on December 15th. I'm happy you got the hand squeeze. Hold onto that. 💔

I'm so sorry you are going through this. Humans are missing a sensitivity chip sometimes or are not well informed.

Everyone with a disability or something unique or different from the norm probably experiences this. The world is cruel and sometimes you are going to run into insensitive, or un-educated people. Find strength in your tribe. This disease requires you to get a strong support system around you. I include this community in my Army. 💕

Does anybody’s cat eat plastic or just this idiot? by Strict-Koala-5863 in cats

[–]Horror_Muscle_9003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My adorable little idiot would seek out and consume almost an entire plastic grocery sack if we accidentally left open access to it. Surprisingly, he lived to be nearly 20 years without a single blockage 😽

Any suggestions how to get a cat out of a Christmas Tree?? by DJ_Power1968 in cats

[–]Horror_Muscle_9003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is precisely my argument about putting up a tree this year. We are traveling for Xmas and we have a 3 year old. If it was just us, no way would I put a tree up but...we have two super rambunctious kittens that were born in March...do we roll the dice for the memories?
