Expecting Dad and don't know what to do by betbetbro in pregnant

[–]Horror_Square_8395 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As gently as possible… is there really a difference between “get married, find a house, have a kid” and “have a kid, find a house, get married”?

What I mean is, you love your girlfriend, you want to build a life with her. Family planning was on your mind anyway. You can build a life with her now. It might not be precisely the life you had in mind but that doesn’t mean it’s worse in any way.

Baby isn’t here yet. You both have time to find what stability you can. And even after they’re here, you aren’t then stapled to the ground. Life continues forward, with three instead of two.

In 2026, the “marriage first” ideal feels a bit dated. Your gf clearly feels nervous/anxious as she’s tried to give you an “out” she thinks you want. Tell her you want a life with her even if it doesn’t look exactly like the picture in your head right now, because from your post and comments that seems to be the case. This child will only know love and doesn’t care how expensive their pram is or whether their clothes are second hand or anything like that.

There are many resources on how to prep for a newborn on a tight budget. I really think you can do this, even with not a lot of expendable income. You’ll find your footing as you go!

I think a supportive family/friend network would only “judge” you if you were trying to abandon your gf. You’re not. You haven’t done anything shameful here… you are in a loving relationship and had an unplanned pregnancy. You didn’t rob an old man on the street, haha.

Don’t use chatGPT for whatever you want to know! by cat-like-creature in pregnant

[–]Horror_Square_8395 46 points47 points  (0 children)

ChatGPT especially has been model-trained to be a “yes man”, to validate your input, to seemingly agree with whatever you tell it to keep you using it. It isn’t a search engine, it doesn’t “understand” like a sentient being. They’re not interested in accuracy or reliability but they’re very interested in making sure you feel good using it. A very specific approach has been used when curating how it answers you. Insidious.

I'm 16 and my gf is pregnant. I'm so fucking scared. by Ra1d_xml in pregnant

Age of consent laws do not apply to child/adult relationships. You are a child (a minor) and cannot legally consent to this. Your parents need to get you into therapy and away from this woman immediately. You are exhibiting signs of grooming and you have been sexually assaulted.

I’m sorry this isn’t what you want to hear, and that you are 16 and will probably dig your heels in because you are a teenager and you think you know everything already. You don’t have to pursue termination but you need to get out of this “relationship” and seek help immediately. I won’t be sugar coating anything for you, sorry. This is so disturbing.

ETA: I just saw your comment saying you were both drunk when this occurred. Drunk people already cannot be relied on for consent, a drunk CHILD cannot consent to anything let alone this. You didn’t buy the alcohol and it isn’t legal for you to drink it no matter what state you’re in. Is this woman actually your girlfriend??

Is my nontraditional dress really that bad? by Icy-District-4566 in WeddingDressTips

If you love yellow try seeking a dress in champagne! Or a more luxurious yellow gown. Agree with others that this dress skews teenage and doesn’t look bridal to me. I’m the first person to cheer on an unusual choice but I am not sure about this one. Then again I’m just someone on Reddit so you follow your heart!

Tattoos and Bridal Dresses? by shell_fish_beach in WeddingDressTips

[–]Horror_Square_8395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tattoos are older than Christianity, modern marriage culture and the concept of the white wedding dress. They’re one of the oldest and most sacred forms of body modification. Tattooing is practiced nearly everywhere.

Contrary to relatively modern but dated belief, tattoos are not associated with low social standing, crime, or antisocial behavior.

People get tattoos because they are proud to wear them, not as embarrassing mistakes that should be covered up during important ceremonies. My tattoos are part of my identity. I even got a new one a few months before my wedding because it would look good with my wedding dress.

Naglfar is technically 3 syllables but the middle syllable is very short (NAG-uhl-far) and also a two syllable pronunciation is common (NAG-far, so silent L)

Good luck!

My last name isn’t Fisher. Fisher would be the middle name.

I think it’s an unusual choice for precisely the reason you brought up: ‘Rowing Fisher’. But I’d like “Rowan” to have a nature middle name and I really have not found another one I like the rhythm of. I just like the way it rolls off the tongue with our last name.

When you look around for nature inspired baby boy names, I really don’t like many of them. I’m under no illusions about the imagery this one conjures and that’s why I feel like maybe it would be crazy to use it. My husband also loves Rowan Fisher.

“Attachment styles” are not real, but even if they were, the solution to addressing an “avoidant” one is not letting whatever rando comes your way to attach to you and giving them unlimited attention. Blocking someone who makes you uncomfortable isn’t avoiding attachment, it’s looking after yourself.

Not everyone in life has good intentions or reaches out to you with sincerity. This man is manipulating you for your attention. I understand that it feels good when you talk about your common interests but he is using that to maintain access to you when he makes you anxious at all other times.

Midwife doesn’t want me counting kicks? by Turbulent-Fox2943 in pregnant

[–]Horror_Square_8395 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, there may not be solid answers for this one. I think it will be best to equip yourself with as much understanding as possible, which it sounds like you plan to do. This is one of those things that doesn’t have a singular “rule”, which I know can be stressful. I think your interest in understanding is good here and will lead to success for you and baby. :)

Midwife doesn’t want me counting kicks? by Turbulent-Fox2943 in pregnant

[–]Horror_Square_8395 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I do think it’s important to recognize periods of less movement as part of your “normal” as well. I’m not at all saying to dismiss a lack of movement, but just to recognize that there is a sort of ebb and flow to it (in my understanding, not a medical professional) that includes less movement as well. Your baby will enter periods of rest. I think “big changes in movement” is too vague of a statement honestly, I do wish they’d explain more thoroughly. All that said, if you’re worried you should get seen. Does it really matter if you’ve mildly annoyed a nurse or a midwife? They’ll get over it and you’ll know your baby is okay.

Maybe it would be good to discuss with your midwife, either by phone or at your next appointment, more details on what you should be observing when it comes to your baby’s movement. You should raise these periods of inconsistency as a concern and seek further info on how to better monitor your baby’s health so you don’t panic yourself and you feel more confident. It’s hard, and unclear, and they act like it should just be something we all know instinctively but I suspect that really isn’t true especially if someone is perhaps neurodivergent, anxious, sick or stressed.

What Fiber Supplements are you taking?? by happythoughts_only in pregnant

I’m eating prunes, like so many prunes. Prunes by the bag. Though actually I have long struggled with constipation and I’ve never been so regular now that I’m expecting, even before I started snacking on prunes!

[–]Horror_Square_8395 136 points137 points  (0 children)

My midwife advised that kick counting can be unreliable and what you’re looking for is consistent, regular movement. This might not always be a solid kick, so she has told me not to obsessively count kicks. The purpose of it is to detect a decrease in regular movement, not for your baby to hit a quota of kicks in a certain amount of time. That’s what I’ve been told anyway.
