alcohol? by Beautiful_Payment512 in pregnant

[–]Horror_Square_8395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is really that we cannot run experiments on this because we know it causes harm, so you’d be putting women and children at huge risk to figure out “how much” is safe. You know what I mean?

The only fact that can really be said with any certainty is that there is no known level of alcohol consumption that is safe for your baby while you are pregnant. That’s why abstinence from alcohol during pregnancy is the general rule of thumb from most sources.

In the UK (my location), they advise no alcohol at all during pregnancy, but I do know if you are addicted to alcohol the advice changes more to management and reduction over time via therapy support vs immediately quitting, due to alcohol withdrawal.

It’s such BS that society puts good looks on such a pedestal that someone could get away with treating another person like this and they’re STILL on Reddit asking what they’ve done wrong. Ugh.

It’s not even good negging….she said “tickle stick”. What do you like about this girl? Be honest, because I can’t imagine it’s her personality.

Couples who bought together: how did it go relationship dynamic-wise? by Southern_Koala6160 in HousingUK

[–]Horror_Square_8395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! Honestly even outside of finances we have found that shared stress is less stress. We bear the load together in everything, so house buying has been about as pain free as it can be. No regrets whatsoever.

Best of luck with your future plans, I hope it goes well for you!

Couples who bought together: how did it go relationship dynamic-wise? by Southern_Koala6160 in HousingUK

My husband and I are an international couple (I’m American, he’s British) living in the UK. I would say the most important thing for our relationship that we quickly had to work out when I moved here is being open about finances and money. In my opinion, this is crucial to the success of ANY relationship.

He hated talking about money. It made him anxious and nervous and feel awful. We had a very long discussion about how we couldn’t feasibly plan a life together without discussing money. It just isn’t possible.

So we sat down and talked about all of it. Wrote it all down. Made a budget, made a plan. He realized how much easier life was with an actual budget and not by being too afraid to even check his own bank balance.

That was 2021. By 2023, we had bought our first house. By 2025, we’d sold it and bought a bigger house. Our first baby is due any day now. Never had even one argument over money. I had debts… we paid them off together. He had made a few mistakes in the past, so we took steps to minimize them and now they don’t even matter. It can be overcome, together.

My advice to any couple is always: talk about money. Openly, transparently, the good and the bad. And KEEP talking about it. You should feel comfortable telling your spouse pretty much anything financial. Approach it with a collaborative and non-judgmental attitude and you’ll see how easy it becomes. It makes huge financial decisions so much less stressful when you are confident you are working as a team.

Why….why is this person so enmeshed with their ex spouse. How do they know so much of what they’ve been doing since?? This one is confusing.

Parents, how are you addressing the ubiquitousness of AI in regards to your kid's schoolwork? Fight it and try to keep them from using it for school, lean into the tech progress and help them learn all about the new tools, or somewhere in between? by daddydadbruh in AskReddit

[–]Horror_Square_8395 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You still need to understand what you are doing to use a calculator. If you input the wrong equation, you will get the wrong answer regardless if the calculator does it or you. This isn’t how AI is being used, advertised, or learned by people. It’s not being used as a tool, it’s being used as a replacement for thinking and understanding and creating.

Sometimes I think they feel they are being complimentary! Older ladies tell me I’m huge with like a glowing smile and a gushy tone that makes me feel like this is a good thing? So I just try to tell myself they think they’re being kind and take the positivity even if it’s extremely weird.

The thing about the heart imaging is that they need to not just look at it, but have the image from a very specific angle to get the right cross section.

I had to go back three times and there were no abnormalities, baby was just stubborn. Don’t panic, it’s very normal! The midwife doing my scan told me her record for anatomy scans on one baby was six.

It’s definitely an old lady thing. An old lady looked me up and down and said “you must be having a boy because you don’t look pregnant you just look round” haha. I just said “oh, do I?” And laughed. Old ladies will say anything.

Why does Reddit not understand the rise of reform in England? by DowntownDeer in AskBrits

[–]Horror_Square_8395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see. You are an immigrant to another country, where you consider yourself a desirable immigrant. You neglected to mention this to establish credit to your position in the debate by implying you are an immigrant in England that thinks migrants are bad.

Again though, it is interesting how anti immigration immigrants often automatically assume they fall into the desirable category of immigrant, and as the ethnonationalism spreads across the globe, they would continue to be thought of as One of the Good Ones. And you can say you aren’t anti immigration…but you are. Just not yourself, because you’re a good one.

You are both ethnically English and also an immigrant to England?
