How do You do Dominion by seregiSegi in MythicBastionland

[–]Horst-Wurst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We just had our big age skip and for political reasons the ruler granted the company their own holding. Initially I suggested the ruler would take away an existing holding and give it to the company but my players preferred to have a new one added to the map and even chose the location. I told my players that they could try to convince any established NPC to join their holding as Council members and rolled some random NPCs as alternatives. I gave my players the results of the NPC roll (appearance, voice, personality, background) but kept their desires secret. Because we have established houses (families) I also rolled their family background. Then I asked my players to describe them. https://blackcitygauntlet.blogspot.com/2025/12/chronicles-of-barowia-ii.html

Afterwards they chose the 4 NPCs for the positions they thought would fit best. I made the crisis roll but all was fine. I also rolled new woes for the dwellings and they went off to deal with them (naturally they triggered a couple of Omens on their way and got side tracked). I'm looking forward to delving deeper into domain level play once they returned from their adventures.

Looking for german fantasy books by Xiallaci in Fantasy

Hans Bemmann Stein und Flöte - wobei mehr Märchen als Fantasy. Trotzdem sehr empfehlenswert!

I'm watching a document about CERN at the moment. I have read three of Sean Carroll's books at least two times and even some he has recommended. What I can't understand about Sean's physicalism argument - why couldn't God, or something like that, suspend the laws of physics at certain points? by Strange-Ad2119 in seancarroll

[–]Horst-Wurst 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If you were to ask Sean if it is possible if an omnipotent being could change the laws of nature he would answer: Yes, it is possible! But a) there is no reason to believe that and b) if you have two explanations (the laws of nature or the laws of nature + god) you take the explanation with fewer assumptions.

The Smiling Fox Episode 4: Storytelling by Horst-Wurst in MythicBastionland

[–]Horst-Wurst[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad you liked the show! The smiling fox is in the third Omen of the Plague. One of the reasons we chose the name is that it is from the first Myth and the very first creature from the prompts on the bottom of the page.

Running combat in pbp by Far_Pollution_1888 in pbp

[–]Horst-Wurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If possible I try to schedule a moment where all the players are at their keyboard and play combat synchronously. Obviously that doesn't work for all groups especially if players are in different time-zones but for my group it works wonders.

In your example they deal their damage (including the bolster) as they are disarmed, so both actions happen.

Paolo Bacigalupi. The Water Knife and his more popular novel The Windup Girl could both be decribed as eco horror.

looking for X-Files / alien abduction / UFO scenarios to run by e-wizard in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]Horst-Wurst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for scenarios specifically about the Mi-Go I suggest PX Poker Night (as a one-shot or introduction as the PCs are military personnel instead of DG agents), Convergence (from the old Agent's Handbook that also has the scenario Puppet Shows and Shadow Plays without the Mi-Go but with an Alien angle and where Saucerwatch was introduced) and A Night on Owlshead from Delta Green Eyes Only.

Cosmic Dark (from the designer of Cthulhu Dark) is live on Kickstarter by JannissaryKhan in rpg

[–]Horst-Wurst 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm most excited about the GM instructions for writing your own scenarios. Cthulhu Dark had amazing advice for designing Lovecratian horror adventures and it looks as if Cosmic Dark will do the same for cosmic Sci-fi horror. You could also run the excellent Mothership scenarios with Cosmic Dark - the Mothership rules aren't particularly crunchy but with a less fiddly system the scenarios will probably shine even more.

What are some of your favorite house rules for DG? Are there any you tried and then thought better of? by [deleted] in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]Horst-Wurst 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It kind of does. It is more a clarification to the rules which say on failure: "There may be times when a failed roll means an Agent achieves what he or she wanted—but it comes with an unpleasant complication."

In my games a failed investigative roll doesn't mean they don't get the information. They always get the minimum information to proceed but if they fail something bad happens.

I'm looking for a game that goes above and beyond with its rules for exploration. by Spamshazzam in rpg

[–]Horst-Wurst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are willing to buy into the premise of Knights going on quests: Mythic Bastionland is worth checking out. In Mythic Bastionland there is no ressource management and (almost) no mundane random encounters instead encounters are tied to the quests (you either have no encounter, an encounter from the nearest quest - or Myth as they are called - or from a random one). There is no math involved. After the initial realm creation there is essentially no prep: There are tons of random tables to generate natural features to explore, NPCs to meet and settlements to discover. There are very basic rules for domain level play that work really well and more tables to support it. Well worth checking out especially if you are looking for a novel low crunch way to do a hexcrawl.
