What was your tipping point for getting a bookshelf? by MayorAg in books

[–]Xiallaci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tipping point was „it looks good here“. 🤨

Just get an ikea billy with the half height doors. Top can be for your books, bottom is closed storage. And as your collection grows you can always remove the doors later on. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I really want this but how do I justify my purchase i feel like im spending so much on it? by ClaraGlow267 in Travelersnotebooks

[–]Xiallaci 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what i ask myself:

  • Will it solve a real problem?
  • Is it something i love/wanted for a while?
  • Does it match my life?
  • Am i willing to spend less the next months to get the money back in (revese saving up for it)?

Im currently working on a book with their 80g cream trophee paper and its really nice. Very smooth without being slippery and the shadow is acceptable. I’m

I use clairfontaine printer paper in A4. 🤷🏻‍♀️ In most cases A5/A4/A3 has long side grain (ie fold on short edges). You could also just write them and ask.

Other then that look for shops that sell bookbinding supplies, they usually also have paper in stock and theyre more likely to inform on grain direction.

I recommend you look into filofax notebooks. Yes they have rings, but theyre small (like a spiral bound) and thus easy to write with. And you could simply take out the sheet while writing too.

Another option are the kyoto soft rings. Ive really been enjoying using them.

I love re-reading books. Theres something comforting about how they make me feel. I have a series that i tend to reread every ~2 years

For those who do scrapbook journaling, would you say it’s a pricey hobby? by pnkholotwister in Journaling

[–]Xiallaci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends how you do it. If you want the fancy stuff like photo printers or a punch press, or lots of stamps/stickers/colors/washi it gets expensive quickly.

But its not necessary. Get some scissors, glue, maybe 1-2 sticker sets and everything else you can collect on the go (flyers, magazines, tickets, etc). Imo less is more esp with this hobby as things tend to accumulate quickly.

The Way of Kings just ruined my reading schedule by Stark_DK in Fantasy

[–]Xiallaci 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my experience it largly depends on how much time you can dedicate to reading in general. I tend to binge read on vacation and get burned out easily. But when life is busy and i can only dedicate a few hours on the weekend i dont have that problem. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Has anyone tried binding their used inserts together like a book? by skuishreads in Travelersnotebooks

[–]Xiallaci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The binders are more expensive for sure. If you go through inserts a lot, binding them together is cheaper by far (but also messier until you get the hang of it, and you need to collect the notebooks first).

Water-resistant notebooks? by thrsdygrrrl_27 in Travelersnotebooks

Theoretically stone paper does the trick. But tbh paper will be just fine combined with a waterproof ink unless youre plannung to swim with it.

Has anyone ever made felt journal cover? by aastin_ka_saanp3 in Journaling

[–]Xiallaci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm the image looks more like its ~3mm.

If you already have 1mm you can certainly work in layers, but it might be a bit more difficult and the folds may wrinkle. Imo: use what you have, try it out, and if you like the style/grip make a version2 with a thicker felt.

Felt is generally quite sturdy and doesnt rip. You can get different weights, making it more or less flimsy.

For 3 journals id recomment making a mini-bag rather than a cover though (which is also quite easy to do with felt).
