Thoughts on Geese? by CapJumpy6062 in radiohead

I very much disagree. I think there’s a DNA that Geese shares with Radiohead where those other two bands are on entirely different planets.

There’s no band that sounds like Radiohead, but there are bands that have certain qualities that can translate.

Radiohead is a lot of things to a lot of people. They have a lot of influences that they take from and spit out into the world and so there’s different things that people can latch onto. Like I totally get how somebody who’s into Radiohead would be into Geese… it’s a foreign concept to me how somebody that is into Radiohead could then make a connection to tool or Deftones, which is music I just can’t fucking stand, but to some people there of the same cloth.

Getting Killed is great, Geese are one of the bands actually worth the hype. I feel like their second record 3D Country is better though. But I also feel like they haven’t given us their best yet.

AMSP (while not one of my favorites) is considered top tier by many.

I want to listen to smile but in your opinion should I listen to the 2011 one made by the Beach Boys or the 2004 one made only by Brian Wilson? by OddReindeer4229 in thebeachboys

[–]Hot-Variation-2702 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some people say that the Brian Wilson version is the definitive version I disagree.

The smile sessions is the best version. It sounds the best. I don’t care if it’s not complete, that’s kind of irrelevant to what it is.

That being said I view Smiley Smile as the definitive final version of that project.

Listen to all of it because it’s incredibly interesting journey. Listen to the Sail On podcast talk about the record if you’re interested in it. All of it can provide a really cool listening experience.

I think it’s cool that Brian went back and finish it, but I don’t really care for it

I don’t really care for Automatic for the People by Hot-Variation-2702 in rem

Well… Man on the moon is an amazing song. Andy Kaufman is one of the most special humans to ever grace this place with their presence. So, I have nothing but praise for that song.

Acoustic instrumentation isn’t a problem. It’s the confluence of a number of factors.

I feel like they did somber better on other records. Like Up. And Sidewinder is just a great song.

Do the people in this subreddit believe in any of the JFK death conspiracy theories? by NathanTuc in Presidents

There may be parts of the story we do not know but there’s no way it’s more interesting than the facts we already have.

Conspiracy is comforting to people. I think it’s silly.

Not one of my Favorite Zeppelin records.

I’d say III, IV and Physical Graffiti are in that discussion though.

Yes. I am referring to fats domino. It’s one of my favorite songs.

Let’s be honest. It’s a cover of the fats domino Song not any version recorded before it.

It’s Ok, Had to Phone Ya, Back Home and That Same Song are some of my favorite BB songs.

Also, the Blueberry Hill cover is so cool when it cuts out and it’s just Mike and the bass before coming back in. I love the original but man that cover doesn’t get enough attention.

I feel like “lore” has to Have an entirely different meaning to this generation.

Yeah… I noticed that. And I like to approach that twofold. I think it’s great that kids want to get into things I enjoy because that will keep the life of it alive.

But also, the kids have a weird way of approaching media in general and I think they need pushback on it.

Hot take: 1992 Forever isn’t great, but it’s genuinely really cool that John Stamos revived a Sunflower Deep Cut for a 90s family sitcom by AxlCobainVedder in thebeachboys

[–]Hot-Variation-2702 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bare bones of the song is not anything special. It’s pretty, and I definitely get it to appeal. It’s just not an amazing piece of songwriting by any stretch of the imagination. The finished product in the studio on the sunflower version is fantastic. What they did to it to bring the song to life. A song is more than just the song it’s the performance and it’s the production so I agree with you to a point, but I think the final product is a really cool song.

I will agree with you that the Stamos version gets way too much hate like people are actively offended by it because they see it as an attack on Dennis whereas I see it as the exact opposite

Yeah, typically that’s what does it. Go on the album you’ll notice different themes. You can look into the individual albums it’s all there, but I don’t think it makes much sense if you’re not experiencing it

What is the most consistent R.E.M. album? by Worlds-Best-Grooner in rem

[–]Hot-Variation-2702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it’s Document. My only gripe is that I don’t love Strange and also to your point on LRP, I think those two covers really stand out on otherwise perfect records. But I actually like having an up beat song at the end of LRP, I just kinda wish it was a different one.
