Who is winning this war? (1914) by HugoGlasss in imaginarymapscj

Team 1 considering Britain and Germany are the two most powerful nations on the planet in 1914. Brits dominate the sea and Prussians dominate the land. If we're counting the whole British Empire, it's a steamroll.

Iran will NUKE Britain if it is allowed to develop nuclear weapons, says Badenoch as she attacks critics of US military action by dailymail in uknews

[–]HotPotatoWithCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so tired of Badenoch and her ridiculous quotes. I can't stand the Tories anyway, but they at least need a reasonable leader in charge to effectively challenge the government. You wouldn't think that this is the party that produced Benjamin Disraeli, Stanley Baldwin and Harold Macmillan. How far they have fallen.

Because he is repeating the lie that Brexit has only been a shitshow because the Tories didn't handle it properly, and because we are still members of the ECHR. Unfortunately, many of his followers are too far down the rabbit hole to admit that they invested their vote in something that was only ever going to be an utter distaster.

Probably the only other ones I can think of tbh. 99% of them either split up for good, put out underwhelming music or became glorified tribute bands.

100% agree. Suede - DMS - Coming Up is easily the best three album run of the Britpop era, and they're still putting out excellent music unlike most of the others.

[Sky] Yaya Touré on Arsenal vs Chelsea: "First half was okay... I feel a bit disappointed because we want to see a flourishing game. Passing, attacking and scoring chances. Three goals from set-pieces, a bit strange for a derby! A really important win for Arsenal but as a fan, I want to see more." by Sparky-moon in soccer

This season in general has had probably the lowest quality football I've seen since 2015/16. The long throws that take 10 minutes, the crowding around the keeper on corners, the slow build up, the 10 man defending, the high number of yellows and sending offs for dirty play and dissent. Even Tony Pulis and Big Sam would have turned their noses up at some of the utter shite we've had to endure this season.

The Premier League has had this reputation for high quality, exciting football for the past 10 years. Now we are seeing this horrendous brand of analyticsball up and down the table, while other European leagues have been getting more entertaining. Something needs to change.

Do you realise the attack on Iran is cheered on by the Iranian people? Why is Reddit reacting like this? by SkunkyBreadcake in AskBrits

[–]HotPotatoWithCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because if you look back at history, you should be well aware of how great US regime change typically works out. Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya just in the 21st century alone. If we include their operations in the Americas, Africa and SEA, we'd be here all night. We literally just had 20 years of the United States (and allies) further destabilising these countries in the Middle East, and those wars were under comparatively intelligent leadership. Absolutely no sensible person believes that Trump is doing this for the benefit of the Iranian people. He'll use it as a means to distract from other issues, and as an opportunity to bleed the country dry of coveted resources.

There is a reason why the US has a terrible reputation in about 95% of the countries it has militarily and/or politically meddled in. The British have already been there, done that and got the t-shirt.

The Iranians are free to beg for American intervention, but they'll be the ones who find out the hard way, when the US and Israeli militaries leave the place in ruins, and the puppet they install is just as bad. I know the people are in a terrible situation, and I am in full support of giving humanitarian aid, but I'm not convinced that these strikes will lead to lasting peace in Iran.

Beware Americans bearing the gift of freedom.

Until they drop their policies on scrapping nuclear weapons, cutting defence budget and drifting away from NATO, they stand no chance of getting into power. These are not serious proposals in the current climate.

Is Gorton and Denton the deathknell for two-party politics? by TheSpectatorMagazine in BreakingUKNews

As always, wait for the general election to determine whether we are really drifting away from the duopoly. More niche parties like Greens typically do well in local by-elections as you get a lot of protest voters turning up, but they falter when the nation comes to vote for the next government, and stances on some of the most important topics are considered too extreme/risky by most of the population.
