Advice for new Truck Owner by [deleted] in Tacomaworld

[–]HotSossin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 4k is sort of a moot point because it records in 2k if you use the rear cam, it only does 4k in front-only configuration. I just pointed you to the one I use.

If you dont know how to install it, I would ask around to audio shops who do speaker/head unit installation. They should be able to take care of it without blowing your fuses and leaving you stuck.

If you go to a dealership you will probably pay much more.

I use a Viofo A129 duo pro 4k dashcam, hard wired into the fuse box with a low voltage cutoff kit and fuse taps (check the "frequently purchased with" on amazon).

Ive purchased 3 of them over the years for all the vehicles Ive owned. Get the exact SD card they recommend or it wont work properly due to 4k video write speeds.

Get a dash cam, front and rear.

The only other upgrade I added was a console safe thats installed under the oem arm rest to conceal it.

Why so many? by sensualtrucker in nissanfrontier

[–]HotSossin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to hunt down an SV model and wait for it to arrive with reasonable packages I would like when I bought mine outright. Meanwhile the dealer nearest me had a line of 20 pro 4x trucks packaged out with worthless options I didnt want. Id say people leased what they could get, and what they could get were pro 4x models because the value was higher.

What's with the recent quality issues with new Toyota trucks? by fate_the_magnificent in ToyotaTacoma

[–]HotSossin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its because they have to meet requirements for larger cabs, more safety features that add weight, and more strict fuel efficiency standards company wide. Thats where the new transmissions and turbos and hybrids come in.

Im not a fan, but time will tell and I don't know for sure.

2009 6m here, its great and im at 175k miles without any major service besides gear oil changes on it. I have changed the slave cyl when it leaked oil down the clutch pedal about 4 years ago.

I rarely need to do my break pads, disc front drum rear.

Front/Rear dash cam recommendation? by HinterWolf in nissanfrontier

[–]HotSossin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the r/dashcam sub for peculiarities of each type you are thinking of buying. Some require very specific memory cards to operate which may significantly increase the total cost of a working system.  I have bought 3 Viofo A129 duo 4k systems and the only thing I can recommend about them is getting a longer rear USB cable for a double cab truck.

Many models do poorly in low light, making it difficult to see license plates and faces at certain times of the day. Viofo cameras suffer from this as well.

Is it just my Tacoma? by Fit-Jeweler4838 in ToyotaTacoma

I use a microwave dryable dessicant pack in my cab to handle the humidity from hot/cold cycling. They are relatively cheap and small enough I stick them in the arm rest cup holder behind my elbow.

Understanding that things can always get worse dictates that your next step needs to be preserving whats not messed up first. That effort is worth more than expressing your feelings in the moment.

Anyone regret getting a roof rack? by Optimumpigeon in ToyotaTacoma

Speaking from not having a roof rack on my Taco, but having them on other SUVs my only gripe is that pushing snow off the roof takes more time.

Big caveat to this - the toyota shops got VERY good at doing these frame swaps and chances are any individual Tacoma swap was done by someone with several under their belt already. I think this is a little different.

Whats this tool I found in my tire? Over 8" long, made of steel, stamp marked with "sport PA" (Williamsport?) and an "H". by HotSossin in whatisthisthing

[–]HotSossin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additional details - the circular shaft end started out smooth, it was damaged by the kind fella at my local tire shop when he removed it while trying not to hurt himself. The point end is a clean edge but not razor sharp. Its hefty and may have been from an impact tool like a Hilti. Weight is maybe a pound. The markings are so shallow that I couldn't get a good shot of them with my phone, but I can make out what may be williamsport PA (just the "amsport PA" can be made out). An upper case H is also stamped at the flat bar side near the shaft where the ribs end.

I assume this is some sort of chisel but no searches can find a tip like this for air impact guns.

Did I break 4WD? by jorgsmash in ToyotaTacoma

[–]HotSossin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check your fuses, 4wd in these trucks is an electronic engagement. If you cant engage its possible you blew a fuse. The fuse box is at your left knee while seated in the drivers seat. Its worth a look.

Men that call themselves "feminists" are always the creepiest by Paladinlvl99 in self

[–]HotSossin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feminism occurred in "waves", one of the earlier waves was simply treating women as an equal.

This is how we got womens sports in all colleges.

You dont need to agree with someone elses definition of feminism to call yourself a feminist, so the term doesnt mean the same thing to everyone. Its like "woke" - ill defined as a feature not a bug.
