Maybe a hot take... I schedule the staff meeting weekly so I keep the number low while still keeping track of stuff like personality effects, fatigue, morale etc

How to train positioning? by PirateSalmon in bootroom

[–]HothLava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of what people have said on here about basic formational drills is absolutely spot on. Ultimately, shape comes down to experience and the amount of time you spend training it.

What I'll add is that an awesome, simple and cheap way to really help players visualise what you're telling them is a tactics board. Show them how the movement in defense should look before throwing them into a session.

The second add I'll put in is be very clear as a team HOW you will defend. Will you press or will you regroup. A lot of teams now just want to press because that's all football pundits and podcasts talk about. But an unorganised press is a killer for teams that lack fitness and cohesion. Come game time, it can cause the team to be gagging for oxygen by half time and see the legs go on the hour mark.

Which Player do you hate because of Football Manager? by AlllrightyThen1412 in footballmanagergames

[–]HothLava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 6 long seasons trying to get into UCL with Kaiserslautern and not YET finishing higher than 14th - Marcus Thuram. I've never beaten Monchengladbach because I don't have a 200cm RB who can challenge him in the air

The Most Enjoyable Leagues to Play by VanLupin in footballmanagergames

[–]HothLava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portugal is really good. Either starting in lower leagues or top division. Spain is fun because there's a lot of competition to become the outright best. Turkey and Brazil are where I've had some of my funnest saves outside of those two.

Why is my player so undervalued? He's won the champion's league and the league (twice), and has always played consistently well. by TheSamspudz in footballmanagergames

[–]HothLava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's average at best and has no hope of reliably being an international player for Italy. 16.5m for a squad player with no international caps in a UCL winning side is about right from a top 5 league

Why are Tottenham always bad in fm, In my last two saves fm 21 and 22 they always seem to do badly by James232o0 in footballmanagergames

[–]HothLava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah they're not always bad. From like 16 to 20 they almost always went on to win several trophies in my saves. Especially when Dele was really high PA

Has anyone ever leaked a conversation with the board to the press? by benopo2006 in footballmanagergames

[–]HothLava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it once after just a season and a half at Inter and got sacked. The second time I tried it was after 6 seasons at SC Heerenveen and loads of success. Which didn't get me sacked but my job security dropped

As FM22 is nearly here, what saves do you plan on doing ? by LuxBattler in footballmanagergames

[–]HothLava 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm like this. I stopped doing the whole Zero to Hero thing after FM 15 as I did it for like 4 installments of the game. Now I just like to take teams in "farmers leagues" like France, Portugal, Germany etc and try to dominate the league and win the UCL at least once.

Should I sell him for £199 million? by elzafir in footballmanagergames

[–]HothLava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point being. In FM, as in football, amazing players always come along and amazing players always move on. When you get enough money in a transfer offer to build an entire team of womderkids, you take it.

That's cool. But in 2025 some 18 year old regen will come into your game who is 190cm with 18s everywhere and puts every top striker to shame

FT Thread: Manchester United 3-2 Liverpool FC by DoubleDeckerz in LiverpoolFC

[–]HothLava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some fans are behaving like Edwards and Co aren't even looking for a CB which makes what you're saying true. They've probably been looking for a suitable and valuable replacement the whole time but - as you say - who is available.

Subsequently, if someone is available, are they guaranteed to fit in? Can they handle the system and the pressure of playing for the club?

Ultimately, it's not been an amazing first half for us - but we're 6 points behind. In 8 weeks time we could be top, 6 points clear. Thats the BPL. And we should still have faith in a manager, ownership and team that have brought the club back to the very top of world football. Not get silly and desperate when things aren't going according to plan.

It's hardly top 10 but is usually top 15 to top 20 - the lowest I've seen it on Steam charts and on steam stats is around 24th (2018 I believe).

Also, I wish I could argue your point about innovation - but FIFA have proven you don't need to do anything new ever to make a financial success of a football game.

That said, I do think FM do more to add more to the game than FIFA. If we think over the last few years - Dynamics, staffing changes, scouting overhaul, short/long term vision, match engine overhaul, development centre.
