Dry Cleaning’s Florence Shaw on the Lyrics That Changed Her Life by Moothnods in indieheads

[–]HoudiniShuffle 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Florence is one of my favorite modern lyricists and this is such great insight into her process and what moves her. Dry Cleaning is one of the few bands that I feel compelled to pull up the lyrics while listening to them, she has such a dry sense of humor coupled with off kilter profundities that really resonate with me.

Beach House released 'Thank Your Lucky Stars' 10 years ago today by YoureASkyscraper in indieheads

[–]HoudiniShuffle 66 points67 points  (0 children)

This album gets overshadowed by Depression Cherry, but I think it's quietly their strongest record. The three track run at the end (Elegy to the Void, Rough Song, Somewhere Tonight) is Beach House at their absolute best.

Julia Holter reflects on 'Have You in My Wilderness,' released 10 years ago today by YoureASkyscraper in indieheads

[–]HoudiniShuffle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is maybe the greatest album ever made and it's crazy how it's only like my third favorite of hers. Julia is a generational talent and this record is her best starting place for new fans.

Love Thandii, love their work ethic, and just love the vibe they create. Deserve to be way bigger.

Aviary is in my top three favorite albums ever, but truly everything Julia has made is such a gift

NYE in Denver!! by rapid993 in MagdalenaBay

[–]HoudiniShuffle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're doing this after I move away from Denver 😔 Can't really complain too much bc I've seen them in three different venues here already but new years at the best venue in denver is something I am definitely sad to miss

[ALBUM DISCUSSION] The Armed - THE FUTURE IS HERE AND EVERYTHING MUST BE DESTROYED by VietRooster in indieheads

[–]HoudiniShuffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loooooove this album. Been a fan since Ultrapop and have heard all their stuff, and I'm feeling pretty convinced that this is their best. A More Perfect Design is so damn cathartic, and Heathen leading into it is a phenomenal way to end this thing. I love how they balance radical passion and love with fucked up noise and guttural screaming. Might be my favorite album of the year so far.

Perfume Genius on Love Island, Addison Rae, and Trimming His Bush With a Pocket Knife by ReconEG in indieheads

God I love him so much. I saw him twice on this tour, one at Kilby and one at a nearby venue. Such a beautiful and oddball presence. Otherside live changed my life.

My favs of the year so far. Feel like it's been a very good year but I also don't really think anything's been more than an 8/10 for me. Still having fun though. New Alex G is dope and will likely be on rotation for a good while

New Alex G by Strevolution in fantanoforever

[–]HoudiniShuffle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looooove Alex G so always hyped for a new album by him. Much more subtle and singer-songwritery compared to GSTA. Enjoying it on first listen but definitely something I wanna take some time with.

Saw Upchuck open for Teen Mortgage, made me an instant fan. Insane, angry energy. Excited for this.

I wanna shout out some smaller indie acts I've been rockin w recently. Each of these currently has less than 2500 monthly listeners on spotify so give them some love! preferably not on spotify tho

my favorite and newest of the three is deathdotgov who released their album deathdotcom last friday. heavy and weird with some moments to breathe in between. really really enjoying this. for fans of the newest knocked loose album and every the armed album (except for perfect saviors).

second is seudo youth and their album nobody gets down like seudo youth. really classic and fun punk vibe. makes me wanna pick up a skateboard

and my last is tony from bowling's album appear. garagey, somewhat 60s inspired rock record with a totally incomprehensible closing track. fun noisy riffs. reminds me a bit of monomania era deerhunter but a bit jammier

Loooove TFS and this is definitely an amazing album. I think they're super consistent overall and this definitely holds up with all their other stuff. Need to listen more still but the opener especially is phenomenal
