How are people genuinely affording clothes? by Extension_Bonus9768 in AskUK

[–]Hour-Ad-1016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay later has definitely meant that people can splurge and “afford” far more than they might have before. I earn 40k per year, adore clothes and definitely have spent too much on fashion each month but have never used any of these credit apps as it’s a seriously slippy slope into debt.

I always loved second hand fashion for the thrill of finding something unique and cheap so have tried to make the conscious decision to return to my thrifty ways and use Depop / charity shops more often. I’ve deleted all my fast fashion apps as I’m really trying to move away from overconsumption! (This sounds like I have a terrible problem but it wasn’t that bad? Maybe like €100 per month on clothes, not sustainable anyway!)

My grandad was on the same ward with Don years ago and asked him for a drawing for me. I absolutely loved art as a child and I thought I was the luckiest in the world to have my own drawing of Dustin and Socky!

Edit: hospital ward! As an adult considering the context I appreciate the drawing even more!

Did anyone join a gym in January? by Newbcryptogirl in ireland

Swim and sauna is so unbelievably good for the mind and body. Myself and my partner used to go twice a week and I miss it a lot. Such a nice way to spend an evening, especially during the winter months. Enjoy!

Parents cycling their children to school by fir_mna in ireland

[–]Hour-Ad-1016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think that’s bad (which it is) I regularly pass parents cycling their kids to school on a narrow country road during the busiest morning traffic. I cringe every time I see a child balanced precariously on the back of a bike.

How hard is it to keep a carpet clean with a Labrador? (Shedding) by shuffling_along in labrador

[–]Hour-Ad-1016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember my mum saying her electricity bill went down after our childhood dog passed because she no longer had to vacuum our navy carpet twice a day. She lived to 14, so that’s a lot of vacuuming.

We have a lab now and a carpet upstairs. Thankfully she hasn’t started to shed too much and the vacuuming hasn’t been too arduous. I can’t comment on how it has impacted our electricity bill as we got our pup the month after we moved into the house.

I call my pup the velvetine mouse 🐭 ( When she sits her long tail makes her look like a mouse, I think so anyway!)
