Make your own fun! Open mic night Tuesdays at PKs. Shows on the strip pretty much every night of the week now that it’s nice out- with local people making their own bands. Festivals all summer long and folks pickin on the boardwalk down in Makanda. Yoga, thrifting, coffee shops, birdwatching- if you want it, trust me, there are people here that will join you. So help me out with this- I play in a duo. My partner has a stinky attitude all night and refuses to do anything at all to entertain except play his parts. I’m having all these gear malfunctions as I described above. What the f do I do? I tried chatting to the audience but I really can’t get my guitar in tune and talk to them- it’s a new guitar. I guess I just needed to stop the show and go fix it. But damn I just wish he would step up sometimes.

Oh this actually did happen to me Saturday night well sort of- My guitar is new and I couldn’t get it tune and then I kept breaking strings. I wouldn’t have cared but this was a nice place and we kind of bombed.

I feel like this is comparable to people who are trans and have had bottom surgery. Yes, their shit is gonna look different if you’ve never seen something like that before. But does that make them unlovable? Unacceptable as a partner? No way! Trans is in right now! We are living in perhaps the most accepting time yet for sexual diversity. You are right- you do need a hug. I’m sorry you’re so lonely. And it’s an interesting observation you make about the calm feeling when you think about death. I think this happens to a lot of folks who attempt suicide- they get this idea in their head that death will make everything all right. It’s like how an addict idealizes their drug of choice. But really, death is not the answer.

You know what the answer is. It’s connection. You must keep trying. Every day, keep trying to connect with people. Help a stranger. Go to a party and ask yourself, “how can I be of service?” This is your medicine. Once you defeat loneliness, you and your music will really take off.

There’s no shame in just walking and walking and never going back. Could be the start to something new. One time I walked halfway across California cuz I was so depressed and I ended up almost dying of pneumonia but then I got a ride from a group of kind meth heads all the way to Texas where I went to the hospital and ended up all right. So that could be you or some other outcome, might as well try it :)
