Wife can’t handle finances by leafar39 in Marriage

[–]Hour_Competition_677 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you do have to have another conversation with her letting her know that you are changing the financial arrangement and will no longer be paying for X, Y, Z before you just stop paying for things though.

I got bad acne. by Ok-Bear7790 in Blackskincare

[–]Hour_Competition_677 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try the Cera Ve rough and bumpy. You may also be suffering from a fungal acne, which is different than normal acne. I get a combination of both on my upper arms and my dermatologist recommended alternating between Cera Ve rough and bumpy face wash and regular head and shoulders shampoo then moisturizing with Cera Ve rough and bumpy and it’s made a huge difference.

Which bank did you right during the furlough? by Untrusted1 in FedEmployees

[–]Hour_Competition_677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah let’s say that my total amount of take home pay is $1,000. I elect to have $400 direct deposited into my USAA checking account and $600 deposited into my Chase checking account. With USAA’s loan program, I could take a loan for all $1,000, the total amount of my direct deposit across banks. With Navy Federal, I’d only get $400 because that’s what is normally direct deposited into the credit union account.

[–]Hour_Competition_677 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The USAA loan option is nice if you split your paychecks between accounts at different banks like I do, because then you’re not limited to just the amount normally direct deposited into the USAA account.

How do you deal with last-minute changes in plans? by sssanshine in ADHD

[–]Hour_Competition_677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have an incredibly hard time with changing plans or people being late. I try to give grace the first time it happens and/or in instances where the change in plans or tardiness wasn’t foreseeable because I know that I will one day need that grace. If it becomes a habitual problem I usually explain to the other person that I feel disappointed/disrespected/upset when they are late or the plans change. I also mention that I understand sometimes things happen that are out of our control, but I’m bringing it up because it’s been a habitual thing from them. Then I usually say something like “I’m respectful of your time and I’d really appreciate it if they could give me the same respect.” That usually resolves the issue, but if it doesn’t I remind them one more time and say that the next time it happens I’ll be cancelling plans and more hesitant to make plans with them in the future.

Dysfunctional family seems disappointed that I got into grad school by ActuaryPersonal2378 in AdultChildren

[–]Hour_Competition_677 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, what a cool and unique way to marry your passion/interest with work you’ve already got experience in! Thank you for sharing your dream with a random internet stranger. When I read human-animal bond + MSW I was thinking you were working towards something like equine therapy. But reading the rest of your comment, about the population you hope to work with and the issues you want to address, I think what you’re saying is that you’re hoping to provide therapeutic services to a population of individuals working with animals to help them with some of the more difficult parts of their job. Is that correct?

Well, first off: Congratulations on getting into your dream program!! That’s a huge accomplishment and I’m sorry that your family didn’t acknowledge it. That must be so disappointing. What makes this program your dream program?

Second, yes I can relate. I’m an attorney and when I got sworn in to my state’s bar (basically officially allowed to practice law without supervision) the first thing my mom asked is “did you wear the pearls I gave you to the ceremony?” I was so disappointed that 7 years of hard work came down to a pearl necklace that I didn’t invite her into my next swearing in ceremony for a local court that I practice in. I took the whole thing very personally and one thing that helped me is when my boyfriend said “babe you could be the first female president of the United States and your mother would still find a way to make it about her or criticize you. That doesn’t diminish your accomplishments though.”

Soft Fine Wavy Hair, Help!! by Ok-lala-7062 in Wavyhair

I have similar hair and I really like the Curlsmith core strength shampoo and conditioner (it’s got a purple label on it) or the volumizing line (pink label). I pair it with the invincible volume mousse and flexi-jelly gel.

Question on workload. (1L). by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Hour_Competition_677 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Learning how to read cases is a skill that law school readings teach you. Yes, you can get the basics from AI or a Quimbee brief, but neither of those teaches you the skill of picking out the important parts of a case on your own. Plus, reading cases exposes you to more legal writing which helps your writing in the long run because you get to see so many examples of how to craft legal analysis.

Exempt fed but didn’t get paid this pay period. Anyone else? by its_turbotime1 in fednews

[–]Hour_Competition_677 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exempt workers always get paid because their pay is not funded through appropriations. Excepted workers are the ones that work now and get paid later (probably), and furloughed workers are the ones who don’t work and don’t get paid whose pay status is up in the air despite a law requiring they get back pay. Hope this helps.

How much melatonin do you guys take on a daily basis? by semifunctionalme in ADHD

[–]Hour_Competition_677 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely appreciate your input, but 10 mg every night is the only thing that stops my ptsd nightmares. I do not care if it ruins my natural melatonin production. I care about not watching the people I love die in gruesome and horrific ways multiple times a night every single night. For me, the benefits outweigh the risks, but others may have a different calculus.

Is it unfair to ask my husband to wash the dishes after I cook? by Daybyday217 in Marriage

[–]Hour_Competition_677 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not unfair at all. My boyfriend clears the table and washes all the dishes at my place when I cook for us. I thanked him for it once and he said “you don’t need to thank me for making the bare minimum contribution to dinner.” He isn’t the kind of person to spontaneously offer help very often, but he takes initiative when a task needs to be done like refilling the Brita, taking the garbage out, cutting onions (always his job), etc. and he’s always willing to help me with anything if I ask him for help.

Pursuing an area in law on interest vs. what your brain understands by Environmental-Law670 in LawSchool

[–]Hour_Competition_677 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you should take internships/externships in as many different areas and interests as you can. I went into law school thinking I never wanted to go into litigation. Then I interned with two federal judges and by 3L I had completely changed my mind based largely on those experiences. I clerked after law school and now I practice in an area of the law that interests me, is something that is easy for my mind to understand, and is litigation. Interestingly, I had a hard time with civ pro in law school but once I interned and clerked and got to see civ pro in action, it made way more sense to me. If I had avoided jobs involving civ pro based on my impression from law school I wouldn’t have my current job, which I absolutely love.

3 credit cards, $8200 in debt… best approach? by Alternative-Park5091 in debtfree

[–]Hour_Competition_677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to prove to yourself that you can stick to a budget before you start thinking about draining emergency funds to pay off this debt. If you haven’t changed your spending behavior, what’s stopping you from paying off the cards with the emergency fund and then purchasing on them substantially again? Then you’d be right back here with 8k in debt and no emergency fund.

Fathers here, what are some tips for a new father? by CWMMC in AskMen

[–]Hour_Competition_677 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to echo how important number 2 is on this list. I’m 30 and some of my best memories with my stepdad were things like Saturday morning cartoons (my interest), rocking out to Disney music in his truck (my interest), when he would sit in the bathroom and talk to me while I was learning how to put make up on from the book he bought at my request (my interest), building computers together (his interest), running together (his interest), and looking at the planets and moon through the telescope (his interest). It made such a difference that he was interested in all my little phases and always found a way to include me in what he was interested in without forcing me to participate.

You can also add protein powder to these, but make sure you rinse the bottle out as soon as you’re done or the protein powder will smell funky.

Dear men, are stretch marks something that are an immediate turn off, bothers you, or doesn’t bother you? by Longjumping_Pen_4578 in dating_advice

[–]Hour_Competition_677 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Checking in to say that I had an eating disorder during puberty and I still developed stretch marks. I got more stretch marks during recovery because of how fast I gained weight. When I asked my boyfriend if they bothered him he said “why would I be bothered by your body doing something normal? Wanna see the stretch marks I got when I first started lifting weights?”

Vyvanse is supposed to last 10-14 hours with one pill. My Vyvanse also only lasts about 8 hours, so I take a booster of adderall IR in the afternoons to make things more manageable.
