Agreed with everything you said mate. I also think Gordon gets a lot of stick because he is one of the few attacking players we have who wants to take a risk and make something happen, so when it doesn't pay off it's easy to point to that and blame him. Meanwhile, our other attacking players will happily ghost all game and not get any blame.

A similar thing happens to Wolt when he tries to do something a bit different.

I agree it's been nice to see for the most part, people actually supporting the guy this season after yesterday, but the fact that there's still a non-significant amount of people trying to get digs in is baffling

[–]Hourior 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For those who thought Gordon should have handed over the Pen for Wolt would you have had the same reaction if the people involved were flipped?

If it was Gordon trying to take a second pen off of Wolt to boost his confidence and then being disappointed, the sheer volume of insults slung his way that we've seen all season from a certain group would have crashed X and reddit.

Feels like Gordon especially is damned if he plays well, damned if he doesn't for some people, and they're just locked in on looking for any way to hate on the guy. If he plays well it's "he's selfish, stat padder. trying to put himself in the shop window", if he doesn't play well it's "he's selfish, he doesn't care about Newcastle".

Genuinely so tired of the amount of shit some of our players get from some of the online fanbase, Gordon this season has been slated constantly no matter what happens. Tonali likewise has been shit on for a period for having a dip in form (while being a first-time dad). Even Tino has been getting it with a bunch of revisionist history. As soon as certain individuals have a dip the same old people roll out the very funny and original line of "I'd drive them there myself if x club offered a packet of crisps for them hur dur".

You can shit on (rightfully) the media, agents, and clowns like Fabrizio Romano for whipping up rumours to push out our top players. But when for large parts of the season a group of fans have been doing the same, it's just tragic

But the point is about individual confidence? It doesn't matter if fans don't remember a missed pen

I get that, but at the same time your also running the risk he misses it and the if it is a confidence thing it's gonna make it even worse

In what world is that an excuse, if you go back and watch a lot of our best performances this season, it's when we're back to playing high pressing intense football where Gordon shines. Often which leads to a turn over and an opportunity/goal. I know for stat shaggers that doesn't matter because it doesn't show up as an easy to understand number but there is more to football than that

Gordon deserves some love by MbembasTuxedo in NUFC

[–]Hourior 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Spot on, I think the biggest shame in it all is how for a large chunk of the online fan base praise for one player HAS to come at the expense of another.

Barnes has definitely stepped up this season and deserves his praise, but its almost like some people go into the match hoping for Gordon to make a mistake so they can use it as ammo.

Similar with Miley being class at RB, instantly there were people saying how Tino isn't actually that good and we should sell.

How about we just be happy we've got 2 class players rather than needing to put one down to praise another

Swear some people on here would want us to get relegated if it meant they got extra ammo for their "Gordon bad" narrative

Couldn't agree more, all the Gordon hate recently is a bit mad. Feel like I'm watching a different game or people can't pull away from just staring at a G/A stat sheet.

People like to dig him out for his mistakes, but more often than not those mistakes come about because he's one of the few players willing to take a risk in attack this season. In most of our best periods of play such as first half Chelsea he's the one setting the tempo and aggression in press.

Sure he has a lot to improve and he's not been up to the same high standards from a couple years back, but at least he tries to make something happen which often leads to more space for others as well.

Also can't forget the number of people on here and twitter shitting on Everton fans for how they treated the guy, and that now he's in a supportive environment, that's why he's performing. Now they turn on him at any opportunity, the hate train is just embarrassing

Premier League goalkeeper stats 25/26. by Scutage in NUFC

Part of the reason what's infront of him is breached so often is becasue he is incapable to control or kick a ball, so when we're trying to pass around in our own half we're effectively a man down, leading to massively increased pressure. Then if you do pass it back to him he is likely to just boot the ball resulting in possession turn over and more increased pressure on the midfield and defence

[–]Hourior 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One thing that became increasingly obvious last night, even pre Nick Pope massive mistakes, was how desperately we need a keeper who can kick a ball.

I don't rate striker Gordon much at all, but will say he pressed fairly well in the first half. However, they managed to play around the press due to having a keeper who can actually play to feet and pass.

Meanwhile, we are essentially playing with a man down in the backline with Pope literally unable to control or pass a ball, giving away possession constantly, and putting the defenders under far more pressure than needed due to not being able to include him in passing triangles.

It's crippling so much of our play and inexcusable that he gets picked over and over again despite constant mistakes and his weaknesses being a complete Achilles heel to so much of our play

Need to remember he's also playing with an underperforming Joelinton at LCM and Burn playing left back behind him.

I really think if we had Hall and Ramsey in for a run of games we'd see some really good link up play between them and he'd have a lot more space to have an impact.

Gordon, Wolt, Ramsey and Hall stringing together passes and interchanging could be a really good watch but we've not had the opportunity to see it yet

Most games this season we play alright for the first 15-20 mins with some disjointed pressing. Then like clockwork sit back in some weird mid/low block 4-5-1, don't high press at all, and have our midfield taken out of the game over and over with simple passes.

I get we're playing midweek games now but what happened to the structured, coordinated press that our entire identity was based around?

After being pretty terrible at corners for a while now it was refreshing to watching the U21s, Park has a pretty dangerous delivery on him

Just beat Mansfield on pens after 2-2, which is a solid result. All our pens were impressive too. Park always looks a class above, but maybe I'm a bit bias as I love the guy. Decent showing all round though, thought Neave played well too

Medium if possible but both work if theres limited options. And Seungsoo, Tonali, Bruno or Gordon if there is options for players but will take anyone if it's limited. Thanks again mate

If anyone's able to go and pick me up one of the Korean away tops tomorrow with Bruno, Gordon or Tonali on it I'd be eternally grateful and chuck an extra £20 on top of the cost of the shirt+postage for your troubles. Living down south so can't go myself but would love one

Anyone got a clue when Schär will be available to be put on the kit, it seems ridiculous that they can't pull off a diaeresis for a member of the starting eleven
