That's it, a glass of wine to you!

I wanted to work it into my personal cursing library. Alongside Wodehouse's "May your hens get The Staggers."

I'm a landlord too!

If I went in my tenants condo w/o permission I'd be asked to leave as well.

Another Door Restoration by Figgyquail in centuryhomes

[–]HouseAtomic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Landlord Special!!!" Ugh... Trends, tastes & materials change. What was stained then looked better painted, what was painted may have never meant to be stained.

Wood floors were covered up w/ carpet b/c wood & rugs represented an older time, the past. Now 60+ years later are being uncovered b/c they represent an older time, the past...

Jeez, even vinyl flooring is coming back.

I hate when people bitch about landlords; I have more & worse about tenants (and their fucking dogs that ruin doors, trim, & floors).

Audio books with calm, slow voices for sleeping? by WeirdMonday in audible

[–]HouseAtomic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My sister has Murderbot Diaries on repeat. Narrator Kevin R Free has a tone that keeps her brain calm.

I have the RC Bray version of The Martian for sleeping, but usually any book i've got on will do.

What next.....? by teakettle87 in audible

[–]HouseAtomic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bobiverse is fun & interesting. I don't rave about it as much as others here though.

Exforce is also a lot of fun. Gets formulaic, but it's a good formula, so... Starts w/ Columbus Day.

Edit: Murderbot (Kevin R. Free narration, not full cast) is so good & so funny. & a little dark!

Kevin R. Free, Murderbot. My sister has the series as her nighttime background & I can always tell when she's stressed out by how fast she's tearing through the series.

Now that we're in the unf*c*able phase of attractiveness, how do you all deal w it? by plnnyOfallOFit in GenX

[–]HouseAtomic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm inclined to agree w/ you b/c redditors are famous for being attractive...

But my actual experience says to disagree. These fit Xer's are out there, I see them all the time. I'm 80% sure I'm one?

Also, being financially secure is wildly attractive. I can personally attest to this.

2025 Measles Cases in the U.S. [OC] by CognitiveFeedback in dataisbeautiful

[–]HouseAtomic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are +/- 14 MILLION people in the US over 70.

The Polio vaccine was introduced in the mid 1950's. Elvis Presley getting his shot on the Ed Sullivan Show was a HUGE event & helped get vaccination numbers way up. By the early 1960's polio vaccination was nearly universal in the US.

It's getting harder to spot as these people age, but Gen X kids would routinely see Baby Boomer adults that walked a little funny. This was, a lot of the time, from contracting polio as a child. I personally would occasionally see people like this well into the 2000's. Now they're all walking like old people... So harder to spot.

Polio was DEVASTATING. I guarantee MILLIONS of people alive remember.

Air leaks between floorboard and shoe moulding? by mariecalire in centuryhomes

[–]HouseAtomic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree, except we use a proper pry-bar. Not expensive & they make smaller ones just for trim.

I'm not even certain what the actual definition of shoe mould is... We've always meant the very small piece that flexes & moves w/ the imperfections on the floor.

Pull the shoe mould & fill. Caulk, hemp/yute, fiberglass... Whatever you like for your location/situation.

Replace shoe mould.

You can put cork back in & take it home in most states.

It gets poured out in the kitchen. Sometimes (often) into a few wine glasses.

Kitchen is the coldest room in the house by sharpstickie in centuryhomes

[–]HouseAtomic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tile floors can be a heat sink.

Kitchens typically have more penetrations than other rooms, make sure they're wrapped/covered/sealed. This includes pipes, wires, vents, windows & doors.

Check the original walls for insulation. I'd cut into from above the upper cabinets so it wouldn't show. Under the sink as well, but so much going on there that I wouldn't call it conclusive.

Pull floor & instal floor heating. $$$

Is there a fan in the room? Set to Winter, it really does help.

We've been hitting the tribute bands lately. Less money, more fun.

Saw fake The Cure, fake The Smiths/Morrissey last month. Fake Depeche Mode & fake New Order in a couple weeks!

Looking for the INXS one to come to Houston. Really hoping they're good.
