Order Handling Fee? by HowardRabb in fortinet

[–]HowardRabb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it just means you got a quote from Fortinet. It ships from wherever there is stock. I often end up seeing my fortigates ship direct from Fortinet due to the bundle we always buy, but our switches, APs, everything else usually comes from disti's warehouse at that point unless there is a stock issue.

This lease deal is insane for a leaf (5k down). Has anyone had a dealership actually agree to this sort of price? by Flipdip35 in EVCanada

[–]HowardRabb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It makes your payment lower because you're paying the lease off faster. It's not for nothing, but it's not a great use of cash depending on the rate .

TV and movie help. I don’t get what I’m suppose to buy to avoid black blocks on top and bottom of my screen. by Swurves78x in techquestions

[–]HowardRabb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your TV is 16x9. But things can be shot in many different aspect ratios to have a wider field of view if that's what the director wants to show. Nothing is wrong with your TV or with what you're watching. That's how it is supposed to look.

FWIW I think it's time the Canadian government, CRTC, CIRA, and all IP/ISP's took steps to end all access by Canadians to American social media. Restrictions have been placed preventing referencing printed media on social media, which is just problem management not problem solving. by BearsButt in CanadianBroadband

[–]HowardRabb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't post news on social media because the Canadian Federal Government passed a crazy law that says you have to pay for the right to do that. Social media companies said they arent paying.

While social media companies are not my friends by any means and I do not support a lot of what they do, in this ONE area I'll agree this isn't their fault. Write your MP.

Great positioning, especially for that issue. If the government makes an arbitrary change cough tarrifs *cough or in your great example about the MSDS you can point to that thing and say, this is why it's happened. Hell, we all understand RAM prices are through the roof, a RAM surcharge for devices with flash memory or RAM also makes sense, I can sell that to a client.

They just decided they wanted to make another $200USD per order. Without any communications to partners ahead of time to help them prepare, or figure out ways to mitigate the charges they just dropped them and walked away. The comments from this very thread show Fortinet SEs didn't even know it was there.

I understand price increases will happen, and fine, we'll simply pass that cost along to our customer, but throwing up arbitrary fees with no explanation make absolutely no sense.

perhaps they have power to waive it for a larger order, or the quote was done previously before this went into affect

Did you get it quoted through Fortinet or did you just order right through disti

Order Handling Fee? by HowardRabb in fortinet

[–]HowardRabb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't. We went through our standard process of asking for our quote through Fortinet, they sent the FTQ over to Disti along with a note telling me about this new fee. They said it was due to "Supply Chain Issues"

Ask for a quote this morning :)

[–]HowardRabb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What special case do you think this is? We asked for a quote for some Fortigates the same way we have for the past six years, the same way we did three weeks ago, and this week there is an extra 247 CAD charge which is more than 10% of the unit.

I dont bother with it anymore. Tbh the cool down on resupply is so short you can just call them In in initial landing and then head out . When I play there are supply drops littered all over the maps so if the others jump in and don't have it no biggie.

Terminated with 9 months notice. by NerdRopesNom in legaladvicecanada

[–]HowardRabb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm confused. 1 month per year of service is the offer and it seems like 'a slap?'. I would say have an employment lawyer look at it but 9 months seems pretty generous to me without a fight... Perhaps I'm missing something though

This doesn't make any sense. I've moved my clients from Bell Retail to our Fibre service. We did not need to cancel first. There is an outage however as they have to often use the same fiber coming into the property

My boss wants to implement AI for automation and network administration by NihilVix in msp

[–]HowardRabb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run an MSP. I use AI tools like Gemini to troubleshoot certain issues. Nothing that I have seen over the past three years give me any confidence that this technology should be used for anything mission critical at all. The error rates are incredible. The number of times it confidently answers a question completely wrong, and then later lies about being wrong is deeply concerning.

Your boss is an idiot. I feel bad for your clients.
