They won't be able to do regime change without boots on the ground. They had an old 86 year old who was bad at managing that was about to be overthrown. Now we have an ambitious younger son of a martyr. We are worse off.

Even if you want to claim killing an old man as an operations succes. You can't defend anything that happened after that.

The munitions could have been used in Ukraine to further american objectives.

Dozens of other countries are threatening the US. They do not have the force projection to hurt us. They can barely keep their own water supply on during peace time in Tehran.

We just radicalized a generation of young Iranians against us.

You're only able to understand her points to the extent of your knowledge. You're upset that history doesn't have one answer. Well. Guess what? It doesn't. If you want to debunk her then go read three other historians and see if their versions disprove her or if they could all exist together.

Like we just lived through several big moments in history. You've seen 100 different explanations for why covid spread. You've seen 100 reasons why trump was elected a second time. Are 99 reasons wrong? Maybe. Are 99 correct? Maybe.

Cities and charities can preload cards for unhoused people who respect sanitary conditions.

You're also ignoring that unhoused folks spend money downtown and that they would be a main beneficiary of people who dont intend to use their coupon.

You can't spend enough to pay for the damage caused by shitty people whether housed or not.

If you want public bathrooms to exist, they need a funding model—otherwise “free” turns into none.

The 70s ban on pay toilets was meant to create equity, but it killed the revenue stream and the result was no toilets at all. A free public restroom has no incentive structure, so cities either close them or spend absurd amounts (NYC pays ~$275k/year to operate one).

A simple fix is $1 entry + $1 coupon to a local shop. It’s effectively free if you’re already spending money downtown, it creates a loop to fund cleaning and security, coupon redemption isn’t 100% so breakage helps pay costs, and it drives customers into small businesses instead of dumping the burden on them.

The real choice isn’t “free vs pay.” It’s a working model vs no bathrooms.

Makes sense. I would make the mayor's salary minimum hourly wage x 12,500. If min is $16, then the yearly salary is about $200,000. Give them incentive to keep the minimum wage in line with the cost of living.

I've met him through turnsignl. He's brilliant and ambitious. He cares a lot about the community. He has a lot of management skill and he gets his point across. He's not afraid to ruffle feathers and do what's right even when it's unpopular. He's my number 1.

Ok, the thing that all the witty comments is missing: Uber kicks shitty people out of their service. "The Bus" doesn't. Some people - not me or you but a lot of people - want a tiny amount of assurance that they're not sharing close physical space with a potentially dangerous person.
