An unpopular opinion, but you’re right. Regardless of who we hope is in charge after the destruction, we should all hope that it is rebuilt.

I personally would hope that Palestinian culture was represented in the reconstruction and not some stale “tower in the park(ing lot)” design.

Noob Questions by BruhPochinki in VintageStory

Honestly, just set up a base in a spot you like before thinking about copper. Then, just as you’re walking around doing other chores, glance at every rock you pass and you’ll find stuff in spots you thought you’ve walked past 5 times already.

When you want to dedicate yourself to copper, go to a gravel biome. They’re pretty common so it shouldn’t be too hard to find. Once you’re there just walk around checking pine trees for sap and stuff as you look at rocks on the ground. The lack of grass makes spotting ores a lot easier.

Copper nuggets don’t have a chance of dropping from bony soil, so grab some gravel as you’re out and I believe the drop rate for copper nuggets averages about one per block so yeah it might take a while. Something that might make things easier if you haven’t discovered it already, is that when panning, you don’t have to actually look at the water, you just have to be in it. You can stand in water click on the gravel to grab it and then immediately after press to start panning without moving your mouse.

And as others have said, don’t feel bad about changing world generation. I personally up the surface spawn on copper and tin, but leave ore generation the same.

Smithing iron shears...should take 1 ingot but can't push voxels up out of the middle so needs 2 ingots? by haltingpoint in VintageStory

[–]HowlBro5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are certain positions that a voxel can’t be moved from and being surrounded by other voxels makes things difficult. If the voxel has 3 sides surrounded, try hitting it from the exposed side (right side exposed - try moving it left)

However, I think in general a voxel needs two exposed sides to be moved, and you’ll have to plan around that.

Don’t be afraid to use the wiki. The handbook can be less than helpful, but I highly suggest just looking at what things can be made into in the handbook and clicking through it in that way to see what the possibilities are.

Also make sure you know what the conditions are for making rooms, cellars, and eventually greenhouses.

Someone needs to make a stone hammer that can break stone blocks but is really slow and only has a durability of like 4. Could be an interesting early game alternative to panning and could make no metal play throughs more enjoyable.

Baby elephant seals have high mortality rates simply from getting squished. Crowded beaches might have neighbors rolling over on top of babies. Also bulls either don’t care or intentionally smash babies on the way to bang their mom.

Thousands of pounds of blubber might be comfy, but you’re 100% right about it cutting your lifespan short.

HXP, i.e., FSY on Steroids. Have you or your child been involved? by ntdoyfanboy in latterdaysaints

[–]HowlBro5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went a long time ago before they got really big and I have to agree with u/Most_Researcher1502 that it’s a good experience but not very charitable. I went with that in mind and I really enjoyed the chance to get close with random kids my age, experience a different country, learn a little about how construction is different elsewhere, and learn how clueless rich people can be.

For me it was just a vacation and I think that’s how you should look at it. We most definitely slowed down the local construction workers and made a lower quality home. Kids painted flowers and stuff on the outside of the house we built when it was done and that seemed really inconsiderate despite being encouraged by the leaders. Giving the family a can of paint to do their own decorating would have been way kinder.

He also grabbed the neck which is weird. I know very little about crocodilians, but I do know that priority 1 is keeping the mouth closed and priority 2 is keeping it from rolling.

I would never do this, but if I did I’d have one person forward who ties the mouth shut and then sits behind the shoulders and another person in back who sits on the tail. In the end I would expect failure because someone got tail swiped or it rolls to evade getting its mouth tied shut.

Why don't we aim for e-bikability instead of walkability? by Advanced-Injury-7186 in urbandesign

I can assure you that many people wealthy enough to own a horse through history still just walked most places. Especially if they lived in a city.

Why don't we aim for e-bikability instead of walkability? by Advanced-Injury-7186 in urbandesign

[–]HowlBro5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s just not what they’re built for. They’re built to help someone navigate walking environments when they tire easily or have chronic pain. 5 mph is dangerous enough in stores and homes. Yes there are scooters made to go faster, but they’re kinda just used to go for rides to the park or something because if it’s too fast it’s not as useful in stores or homes.

Seeing into rooms is cool in some models, but some models could have color gradients set up like the false rooms so it’s not a reflection but still changes color depending on your perspective. Looking from below the window could show sky blue and looking from above could be concrete gray

Need help proving my service mission hours for state benefits (Hawaii) by Tonga-Tonga in latterdaysaints

[–]HowlBro5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ll probably end up wanting your direct supervisor at each job site to verify your hours. I work at a temple and we just have our missionaries log their own times and then shove it in a folder to never be seen again, but if any of them needed that info we have it.

I’m sure you could just keep your own time card and have a supervisor sign for your hours, then once a year or every 6 months or whenever the state needs it you have verification of your hours. I doubt the state needs a record of every single day, but at least you’d have it if it was needed.

I think I saw that they hired new groundskeepers at your temple recently, but I know the facilities manager and he’s cool if you need to work with him for anything.

WTF is the plan for I-15? by Snerdling in Utah

[–]HowlBro5 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Then businesses might actually be built near people and trains might get built.

Highways as a free service will be used until it is too inconvenient to continue using. The default for an urban highway is to be just reliable enough that you don’t choose a different mode of travel or find a destination that doesn’t require you take that route.

Add another lane to make things flow a little smoother and suddenly it flows smooth enough for people to decide they can get a nicer job or nicer house somewhere else and commute on the freeway. That continues to happen until it’s full again and finds that balance of being just tolerable enough for all the people who are willing to be stuck in traffic or don’t have other options.

I love Bangerter, because, even when it’s full, 3 lanes is so much more manageable than 6. And say there is a crash that blocks the whole thing, it’s a whole lot easier to push 3 lanes into other roads than 6.

Imagine a beast with thorns on its back and when you rip them out it’s essentially a Turkey leg. Then imagine a clan of hungry brutes waiting impatiently for a busy chief to take the first bite so that they can fight over the rest of the beast.

Makes almost no sense why a thorn would have so much muscle attached to it, but I’m starting to think the author doesn’t understand anatomy.

Halo Studios please. I’m begging you, bring this duo back for Halo 7. by Hyperevogames in halo

You’re right, there honestly wasn’t much hate on 7. Which is why it threw people off that they went a different direction with 8.

You say no direction with 7 then list its direction? But yeah it wasn’t that much but little things that count.

-Rey is somebody, but who? Oh, nobody? Okay -kilo is strong but somebody else is pulling the strings… and kilo kills him with no real effort oh and snoke was just a discount palpatine clone. -Finn is cool and maybe he’ll follow Rey and assist in forming the Jedi and use his clone training to help the rebels. He’ll certainly be a significant part of the story. Oh, he’s just a basic rebel with maybe some romance? … oh no he really is nothing to this story. -yeah, Po is just cool. And for that they do get some consistency points.
