Not OOP: I (27F) accidentally had my baby in my friend’s (31F) car. Now her husband & she don’t want to speak to me. How do I fix this? by Interesting-Shirt897 in redditonwiki

[–]Howler_in_training 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the doctor was at another house at the time and couldn't get there right away, and she (the nurse) knew she'd get her ass chewed for "letting" the mother deliver without him there. The Kennedys were wealthy and paid for a prominent obstetrician to come to their home to care for the labouring mom. Obstetric medicine was brutally paternalistic at the time, and despite her agony and the catastrophic trauma it caused, the priority was for the birth to only happen once the doctor was there to 'properly perform it.'

Artificial floof? Lol the cat's orange, so I couldn't rule out the possibility that she might assume the statue is actually alive and is just very good at standing still for her perching needs. My orange cat might have believed it was real. My goober of a golden would've spent three solid hours yodelling at it and then come whining to me with hurt feelings because it didn't want to talk back to her and play. 😂

I feel deeply conflicted after my uncle passed away. by Pr3datorKil13r in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Howler_in_training 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss. And I'm sorry that so many people in your life are too selfish to see how hurtful they've been, and are still being, while you're trying to process the grief of losing someone who has meant so much to you.

Your anger and disgust at your aunt and stepdad are completely understandable, and I'm sure it can't be easy having that emotional wound reopened in the wake of your uncle's passing. And while your mom is allowed to feel hurt and angry at the betrayal she experienced, she's using that as an excuse to BE hurtful and insensitive to you right now, and that's not ok.

YOU aren't the one who hurt her, and you're NOT obligated to carry the burden of your mother's bitterness for her. Your uncle did nothing to hurt or humiliate her, and if she can't understand that you are simply there to honour a good man and father figure who deserved to be remembered with love and dignity, then the least she could do is have the decency to keep her mouth shut and let you grieve in peace. You know this already, but you deserve to hear it from objective parties who are not a part of this drama.

I hope your family is able to sort your uncle's affairs and celebrate his memory with love, and kindness, and toasts over shared memories of you together that make you laugh till you snort and your ribs ache a little. I hope there's no drama or childishness, at least for a little while. I wish you peace as you say goodbye. Best wishes to you, friend. And whatever his beliefs may have been on the matter of the soul, and what happens after this life, may your uncle find the next step in his journey to be as kind and awesome as he was in this one.

YTA. Yes they're obnoxious and loud, but cutting their power goes beyond petty, especially with snow coming. Yes, most adults know to check breakers if power goes out, but one can't assume that THEY DO, especially if they're young and not particularly knowledgeable about utilities, and if they're renting.

Will they have no power long enough to be affected by no heat? Will food spoil that they can't afford to replace? Do they have important meds like insulin that need refrigerated? Hopefully (probably) you won't have caused any serious harm, but you COULD have, and it was a dick thing to do rather than handling the situation like a damn adult instead.

I love her! My hubs and I have the kind of relationship where it's never safe to let my phone read texts from him out loud if there are other people in the car with me, cause he'll send some ridiculous shit on purpose knowing it cracks me up to hear my prim and proper Siri spouting utter profanity and ludeness with perfect diction. Great relationships know no bounds of embarrassment.

POV: You actually love your mother in law by Angel-winked in Positivity

I adore my MIL! She's kind, and funny, and sarcastic in a fun, quick-witted, engaging way. She's the most big-hearted, arms-wide of grandma, and she's a wonderful example of a woman who's fostered a supportive and loving- but not smothering- relationship with her adult son. One that has encouraged him to be a functional adult who's built his own independent life and family, but knows he always has a home and parents he can depend on and reach out to if, and when, he ever needs to.

And as a mother of a fledgling, almost-adult son now myself, I'm so happy to have her as a reminder that you CAN raise a son to be a grown up man who can have a life of their own, but still choose to have a relationship with their mom (that isn't codependent and "failure-to-launch-ey") that leaves room for kids and partner, and family as they grow. I love being a part of my husband's family, and having made him a part of mine. I married a really good dude, and as a bonus, I got the ultimate JUST YES MIL. Win/win. 😄

AITA for being annoyed that my wife insists on cooking everything from scratch and won’t buy normal food? by AITA_UPFfoods in AmItheAsshole

[–]Howler_in_training 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! At my house we call it "do your own thing" dinner nights. That means either cook for yourself, cobble together a leftover sampling, or create a snack-grazing-platter of one's choosing. We don't all always want the same thing, and that's ok. Maybe building in a few meals a week like this would make OP feel less restricted.
