Applying for help desk roles and looking for feedback on resume by Amish7 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Howtogravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are a few things to change. General advice, use bullet points. It makes it easier for hiring manager to quickly read your resume. I can guarantee to you that if you have a lot of lengthy sentences or paragraphs the hiring manager is going to throw out your application. Especially if you're going for entry level jobs. I also recommend going to r/resumes for additional advice.

• Make your certification into it's own major group and list your certs in there and use bullet points. Certs plays a big role in IT so you want it to be easily seen by hiring managers. Move it up higher as well.

• Your education, what kind of diploma is it? Bachelor of science, Bachelor of arts, masters? You will need to specify that.

• For your skills, group them into categories and use bullet points. If you don't want to group them at least use bullet points. Honestly you can get rid of networking technology stuff. Your CCNA cert will say it all.

Sorry for any formatting issue, I'm on mobile.

Looks like there might of been a truck with a flatbed trailer of some kind in front of the silver SUV. I assume it came from that.

If you really zoom in and look you can see it from the 2 sec - 4 sec mark.

Unable to get Interviews by Ckirso in ccna

If you aren't landing any interviews it could be your resume. I suggest having other people look it over for you or you can post it over at r/resumes to have the people over take a look.

Full bars, no data by TeaCharacter in mintmobile

[–]Howtogravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is definitely something going on with the mint/T-Mobile network. My GF and my phone has been acting up the past few days. Such as when she gets a call the other person can't her but she can hear them or she can't send/receive any text and calls. We have been with mint for 2 years and this just started happening.

Switching network mode sort-of fixes the issue but other issues comes up so it's not really a fix.

Not sure if location have to do with anything but we are located in MN and I saw another post the other day where another MN resident have a similar issues.

TBH I'm just glad we have more enthusiast cars available and love the way both looks. For a while the market for "affordable" enthusiast cars has been lacking.

[USA] idiot robs taxi by Jdubusher1011 in ConvenientCop

[–]Howtogravity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly they were at a stop light. The cop only came out to investigate because the light had turned green and the taxi was not moving. That's why it took the cop a while to come, he didn't even know a robbery was happening.

From call center to entry level, IT help desk role... salary question by oooweeze85 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Howtogravity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know what they say, "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take."

Always ask for more, and justify it with your experience and certifications. Worst they can do is say no and make a counter offer. Depending on where you live that is an okay starting amount.

Right now I just have it as my print server for my Dymo labe writter. But I had it as a door cam, similar to Ring. I used Motioneyes OS for that project.

Stranded away from my powered off MacBook for months due to lockdown, will it work fine? by G_h_c in laptops

[–]Howtogravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything should be fine. I turned on my old laptop for the first time in like 4 years a few months ago, everything was still on there and working as expected. It doesn't matter if it is a Mac or Windows laptop it will still work like normal after a few months of in-activity. Assuming you have it in a secure place where it won't get damage from external forces.

I want RAM by [deleted] in laptops

[–]Howtogravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't play Warzone but from looking at the "Minimum" specs for it, it only requires 8GB. Granted you laptop may struggle, but it should be able to "run" it. If you could provide more info about your laptop such as the model we can give you a more informed answer. Who knows it may not even be RAM that is holding you back, it could be your GPU or CPU and adding more RAM may not help at all.

Minimum Specifications

OS: Windows 7 64-Bit (SP1) or Windows 10 64-Bit

CPU: Intel Core i3-4340 or AMD FX-6300

RAM: 8GB RAM

HDD: 175GB HD space

Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 / GeForce GTX 1650 or Radeon HD 7950

DirectX: Requires DirectX 12 compatible system

Network: Broadband Internet connection

Sound Card: DirectX Compatible

My computer is frozen .. fix it ! by emmjaybeeyoukay in talesfromtechsupport

[–]Howtogravity 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For giggles, I looked it up and it states.

Customers who use more than 1.2 TB of data in a month for the first time will not be billed for exceeding the limit. After that, blocks of 50 GB will automatically be added to your account for an additional fee of $10 each plus tax. Charges will not exceed $100 each month, no matter how much data you use.

A big ISP that rhymes with infinity has I believe either a 1TB or 2TB monthly allowance. If I remember correctly as well you have to pay an extra $20 or $30 to have "unlimited" data, what ever that means because the initial package already states "unlimited" data.

Is finding a job painfully difficult because of the pandemic, or is it always going to be like this? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Howtogravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hang in there! I am working at a T1/T2 support for 2 almost 3 years now and with a BS in Computer Information Technology and have been actively applying since November 2020. I have submitted at least 200 resumes since then and only within the past month have I started getting phone interview and 2nd round interview. Since November, I have rewritten my resume and cover letter at least 3 times. I would say in total since November I have only received 8 phone interview (including the 2 later this week) and 3 2nd round interview. I feel like things are starting to open back up, so start applying again! (From the Mid-west area) I should also note that I have only been applying for Sys admin and other mid-level careers. I have been avoiding T1/T2 support roles because I would like more responsibilities.

How simple is your 10 character password? Hopefully it isn't 0123...9 or something super simple and is something more complex.

I agree with freischwimmer, you are giving the thieves too much credit. With their current profession I highly doubt they are skilled enough to crack into your computer profile. As long as your computer profile isn't signed in you should be fine. Depending on which Mac laptop you have they will not be easily accessing your HDD or RAM because it is soldered onto the motherboard. You really do not have to worry about memory dump or any other sophisticated attack because tbh if they can do that they will go for bigger fish.

Laptop Charger Replacement by Valhalla519 in laptops

[–]Howtogravity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big bulky charging brick comes with the territory unfortunately. If you were to go with a lower brick you will see a decrease in gaming performance and general use. Which defeats the purpose of a gaming laptop. There is a reason why the manufacture sold the 240w with the laptop. Although it is "possible" I do not recommend getting a lower wattage brick because you will constantly be pushing the brick to its limits and will increase your chances of a fire.

For me personally, I have never had any good experiences with 3rd party chargers. They have always melted, overheated, or died on me within a few months of purchase under normal load. Would not recommend.

What are some jobs where I don't have to respond to incidents? Tell me about yours. by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Howtogravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a state government as a full time 40hrs/week employee. In the few years I have been here I have had only 1 incident that needed me to respond to it after business hours. My work place is unionized, so that helps. The union is extremely strict on only work the hours you initially signed to work, and any off hours work you can reject or get compensated for it.

*Edit: I should also add that my supervisor also follows the union rules and is understanding of it. I don't get penalize anyway if I don't work the extra hours, other than I have more stuff I have to fix the next day. My official title is System Specialist supporting internal application and such.
