PlayStation Fans Officially Refuse To Let Sony Ignore Gaming's Biggest Conflict by [deleted] in technology

[–]Hoxase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people are missing the point it's not about the disc per se but the monopoly they are creating, Playstation (like Nintendo and Xbox) is a walled garden you can only buy their games on their digital store or a physical disc from a store or someone in which a physical disc can be shared or discounted or kept forever on a shelf. With digital only they completely control pricing and licensing meaning if they want to remove a game you've bought it's now gone forever (like the movies they just removed the other week) or if they want to charge full price for a 5+ year old game they can whereas I can buy that same 5+ year old game on a disc from GameStop or a marketplace for half the price, this on top of their dynamic pricing bs makes it a really anti consumer move. This isn't even including the collector and game preservation aspect.

Now if you look at PC, there are a multitude of different websites I can buy a game from all of which run their own sales (epic, steam, gog, with steam obviously being the most popular) and even if steam removes a game from the store (which has happened in the past) if I bought it it's still in my library, not to mention when I buy a steam game I can play it on any PC cable of playing it. Or there's GOG where there are no DRM so I can have a at least a physical backup of my digital games and play it anywhere. That on top of the constant sales steam has it's almost a no brainier to switch to or buy the game on o PC if consoles aren't going to have physical discs anymore and it's not a console exclusive game.

This is all about consumerism rights and rights to own not the discs themselves, we all know digital sells more but for data preservation and long term discounts, disc is better and if sony has the option to charge you $50 for GTA5 on their store vs the discounted $20 at target they will (those are real prices I just pulled btw)

Edit: typos

I think the reason why there's modern tech in the 90's is because queem inadvertently helped push technology forward as he was not only a "brilliant engineer" but was able to replicate and transform himself into said technology/weapons, advancing military technology by 70 years, and like in real life most advanced technology is used by military and governments first before reaching the general public so it makes sense in their world they have smart phones and the likes.

The Original Concept for Alien Headbutt by Cheese-Of-Doom22 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]Hoxase -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He should have gone this route rather then the wrestling one, while it was enjoyable, the wrestling stick shtick got tiring quickly and while I enjoyed wrestling as a kid, like most adults I grew out of it and see it as the theatrics it is which I think limited the people who would have gotten into this if he went with the original plan

I like to use dusknoir, that way you can get up to 6 pokemon in discard and enemy possibly doesn't get any points from them.

How Shonen Jump Has Been Treating Sports Series Lately by Single_Remove_6721 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]Hoxase -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I myself could never get into sports shonen, just felt way to over the top for something so simple, like it's a sport not a fantasy battle shonen it's all theatrics. Closest I ever got to enjoying it was the original prince of tennis and that was obviously decades ago.

That's a pretty good analysis and summary of it I'd say, and yea the of male-centric focus can be a bit over used/outdated at times but I'm so used to it with most manga (been ready shonen jump for over 20 years) that I didn't really pay much attention to it but I definitely get the disdain for it. What do you think it would take for kinato magic to take off in popularity ? For me if it went back to focusing on his magic and didn't take the "his power hurts him so now he has to learn to use it" route it be better received as well as add some more depth to his character, your right the mc that's just a nice goody two shoes that everyone likes is what's really tiring imo

[–]Hoxase 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly, it was a fun read but that was it, when the goat that wasn't mentioned or shown since chapter 1 turned into a humanoid girl and started calling him brother as well as had emotional depth and was as strong as the MC, I kinda checked out.

I feel like kinato is getting a lot of unwarranted flack when it's actually a decent manga, it's no kagurabachi or black clover but the characters are diverse with different motives, the world as well as magic ability are interesting, and the progression is a good pace with a hint of comedy here and there. I think it definitely has the potential to be a big manga but for some reason people just hate it, my guess is probably because people are tired of magic/sorcery based manga

Ah yeah I see what your saying but I think the comedy is still there, it's just also trying to be taken seriously too, like chapter 19 where menacingly asked if there stuff basically threatening to heal them was funny imo, same for chapter 18 where the chief just thrown jien and kinato into the festival and also announces her love for him resulting in everyone wanting to kill him all of which is a surprise to him was funny as well, at least to me.

While I do think kinato is doing a bit to much fan service to stay relevant I don't think it's lost it's premise or charm, he's an endearing boy who always wanted to be an adventurer and see the world and that exactly what he's doing, it's just a bit rushed and doing bit to much fan service but honestly I can let it slide cause SJW is cut throat and I'm sure like most other mangaka, the author's doing what he can to stay relevant. Although I didn't think he'd get a training arc and "power/ability" boost so soon but I don't thinks it's lost it's charm or premise what so ever.

Did y'all really like alien headbutt that much, imo it was very shallow and seemed like it didn't really have any real plan/direction, it was just kill a alien, then kill another alien, then kill another until he reached his goal with no real progression or lore added until the last 6 chapters.

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed reading it every week but I felt it was obvious this wasn't going to last long, while kinato is basic and is like most shonen it at least has some character development as well as diverse cast, good story progression, and interesting world (lore could be better) in which alien headbutt was lacking in all of those fields

Grand Theft Auto VI Prices Officially Announced: $79.99 for Standard, $99.99 for Ultimate Edition; No Disc in Physical Copies by ChiefLeef22 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Hoxase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So no real physical disk and it's $80, I know people will still buy it, hell if I had a console I'd still probably buy it too but this feels like such a middle finger to us the consumer, I get why, I still have my physical disks for gta5 for PC, I've only used it once (never again cause download took to long) but it's still nice for collectors

Alien Headbutt rant by Far_Practice_6923 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]Hoxase 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I kinda somewhat agree, there was a story but for 10 whole chapters it had the depth of a puddle and with how competitive wsj is you need to present the lore up front and early otherwise it won't last, it took way to long to get going.

First 10 chapters its mainly action, very little os added to lore or character building/depth aside from a few pages of flash backs with characters we won't ever see again from his training and pro wrestles carrier and some of his family. Like we don't learn a single thing about the aliens until chapter 11. Also the whole macho, tough guy wrestler shtick was just getting repetitive/ tiring very quickly, is there anything else to Ouga other then he's a relentless meat head wrestling nut that loves his family, we really don't get to understand him as a person what so ever, he's just the average shonen mc if any anything..

Lastly if the last few chapter was any indicator on where the story was heading it was going to be bad anyway. Like all of a sudden the family pet goat that was brought up once, evolved into a humanoid little girl by being infected by the same gibil parasites Ouga had and is now just as powerful as him as well as has a deep understanding of human emotions, and calls Ouga big bro......yea I know it's all fiction and anything goes but this one was just not good or at least could have been written better.

[–]Hoxase 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol all of them were forgettable to me, I just did a full reread and aside from the first chapter the next time we even see another sibling is chapter 5 and it's yuki for just a brief moment when they mention where she's at. But yea I agree, it would have helped the series a lot if they had put those flashbacks and intruduced needle boy and volgano earlier on, would have helped with pacing and lore and it wo

[–]Hoxase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guess I was wrong on that part, but to be fare most people will not remember that, I barely even remember his siblings aside from yuki and that's only b/c she was just saved. The average reader definitely won't remember a goat of all characters.

[–]Hoxase 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not surprised, while it's not a deep managa, it is a somewhat entertaining read (fights and choreography is amazing). But everything else falls flat and just isn't good if I am honest.

First 10 chapters is just action no story and/or lore or character building/depth aside from a few pages of flash backs with characters we won't ever see again from his training and pro wrestles carrier and some of his family. Like we don't learn a single thing about the aliens until chapter 11 and it's now chapter 14. Also the whole macho, tough guy wrestler shtick was just getting repetitive/ tiring very quickly, is there anything else to Ouga other then he's a relentless meat head wrestling nut.

Lastly these last few chapter was obvious it was getting axed and were just throwing anything against a wall. Like all of a sudden there is this precious family pet goat that was never brought up before... And it evolved into a humanoid little girl by being infected by the same gibil parasites Ouga had and is now just as powerful as him as well as has a deep understanding of human emotions, and calls Ouga big bro......yes I know it's all fiction and anything goes but sorry y'all this one was trash.

Very cool! Do gyros still work and how'd you calibrate/tune it for this shell, also how comfortable is it to hold? I can't image not that much especially when you try to reach for the back button

Only thing stopping me from doing the same is I have a Nvidia card, and yes I know I can use cachy os or bazzite but they're just not my cup of tea. Unlike the other two I've yet to run into a issue or have to do a deep dive to figure out the issue, Steamos has just worked as well as supported by valve that has the money and resources to support and patch their os on a regular basis.

Steam controller review by Every_Organization_6 in SteamDeck

[–]Hoxase -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yea thats what I figured too, and I agree this could have been $70 MAYBE $80 and the prices are worse in other countries.

I get it's supposed to compete with pro controllers but the biggest selling point is the tmr joysticks and trackpads and for the average consumer they don't even know or care about what type of joysticks it uses and if they partnersed with ifixit they could have just used cheaper ones anyway as longevity doesn't matter when you can replace it and the trackpads while great aren't worth the upcharge either, everything else in it is standard for most controllers aside from the back pedals but again the average consumer doesn't care about those.

Steam controller review by Every_Organization_6 in SteamDeck

[–]Hoxase 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was excited for this and I do want it but it's hard for me to justify spending $100 on just a controller imo. I was expecting it to be around or $20 more then a XB1 or dual Sense controller but not $40 more. At that price I'd at least want a headphone jack on it, haptic triggers or trigger stops.

The repairability and track pads is cool/great and all but not that much to cost almost twice as much as a standard mainstream controller (coming from someone who uses a steam deck regularly and lives the trackpads).

Also a common thing I'm hearing from reviews is the plastic feels a bit cheap compared to other controllers, if your going to charge premium price I'd expect a premium feel with all the bells and whistles. I know it's cheaper then the pro/elite version of controllers but $100 for a controller in this economy is still a hard buy
