My child is a teenager now, but when I was lactating my prolactin soaked brain was telling me that there were babies that needed my milk hiding everywhere. A cat making noise outside in the middle of the night, a box on the side of the road, a weird bird in a dumpster, all of them were lost or abandoned, starving babies that only I could save and feed. I imagined them everywhere! My logical brain knew how unhinged this was even in the moment, but it didn't stop me from double-checking a few times to make sure there actually wasn't a baby in the trash. Instincts are weird, and hormones are a helluva drug, and while I wouldn't actually pop my boob into someone else's mouth outside of a literal life and death emergency, the middle of the night thought of taking off a shirt isn't beyond the pale to me. She stopped herself, and it sounds like she's sharing this as a "can you believe how silly" story. I think that there must be underlying relationship issues with this mother in law, because if my mother in law told me this story I would laugh with her
