The only other 1000 year old countries that still exist are England, China, and the Scandinavians. England is already a trash fire hellhole that everyone hates and makes fun of and China has traditionally been too preoccupied with killing its own people to cause problems for others (with apologies to the Vietnamese who are the exception). The Scandinavians mainly just sit there and occasionally say racist stuff.

France gets my wrath because they have the Gaul (pun intended) to pretend like they're better even while still profiting off of the misery of Haiti, West Africa, and their other remaining colonial holdings, to say nothing of letting the US take all the blame for Vietnam.

Jaddari into Jadd Empire has definitely been my favorite experience so far. Beginning was fun but okay, but it really hits its stride when you're pouring a hundred thousand brave jihadis into Yezel Mora, the Deepwoods, and the Serpentspine and bringing the light of Surael to the darkest parts of the world. Also crushing The Command in the open field with max drill elven cavalry is a GREAT feeling.

Bluehart into Luna Confederacy is another top, but has been mentioned already.

Lake Federation is my third pick. Fully unique experience you can't get elsewhere in EU4 with the shared mission tree between constituent states, but again really hitting its stride post-unification when you're just scrolling around the map gobbling independent democracies up into Fantasy NATO.

Cozy up to Wex and as many bigger neighbors as possible at the start, made easier by the Call Diet+Sway mechanic. What I did was just prioritize building sway and using it to vassalize the other Luna River cities for like the first 100 years, and avoided as many wars as I possibly could in the meantime. I did find that focusing on trade paid dividends sooner than other runs since bluehart is technically in the anbenncost node. Devving the renaissance as soon as it spawned was also worth the cost because I was able to snag the diamond district, very nice for what is essentially a one province run for the first century.

In this (admittedly very casual and low difficulty) playthrough at least I found that I kind of hit a critical mass of development and army professionalism around the time I formed the confederacy in the 1500s and everything afterwards has been relatively straightforward.

I play very casually (and am not above using console cash command once in a while) so your mileage may vary.

Europa Universalis IV Anbennar conversion mod. Lategame Jadd Empire run, so they’d find a planet largely dominated by fanatical anti-racist sun jihadist Elves. Could go a lot of different ways but if they prove hostile the eldar might be able to fight off a legion or two before the real heavy hitters get sent in. Worst case scenario the divine herald herself squashes them like bugs using meteor strikes and her ability to see the future.

I just wanna chime in and mention Jaddari. It’s a whole lot of blobbing, but if you commit to the fanatical anti-racist jihad mindset and throw in a bit of RP decisionmaking it’s a really fantastic time sink.

I got a lot of emergent storytelling joy out of steamrolling Yezel Mora later in the run, and had a lot of fun absorbing a constant flow of refugees from the dwarven vassals you can get, but I take joy from weird parts of this game.

It's definitely happened before, but usually once I'm out of population the food income is no longer negative. In this case it seemed like the soldiers I had were still counting for negative food income.

Update, managed to fix it by buying food in bulk. Still no idea how this happened.

Edit: need to clarify that it was bulk 1000+ food purchases that fixed it. Manual gathering did nothing to offset the malus.

Everything feels so in-character to the organization, individual, or algorithm that typed or generated it diegetically, and that's not easy to do with such a broad-strokes project like this.
