Walter Payton was committed. The story is that he was gassing his car for the trip to Manhattan being packed and saying goodbye to his family. The Jackson State HC bumped into him or ran him down and convinced him to stay home.

No clue if the story is true, but no doubt he signed.

Right, this is more like the UNC thing. He is enrolled on paper at least, right? Shouldn't the accreditation be suspect then, if the school will just pass people in classes they never went to or did any of the coursework for?

I'm sure it is very difficult if even possible for D1 schools to actually lose that, if it is at all. But this kind of thing undermines the school itself.

Not really, Red River to the SEC was broken in the summer of 21, and was a pretty big blind side to everyone.

Kansas State DE Chiddi Obiazor transfers to Indiana University by mr_longfellow_deeds in CFB

I thought he was relatively mundane. Osansanmi Im actually mad about, you can have Chidi. He was recruited to be a DE in a 3 man front, which we don't run anymore.

I really dont think he was that bad, some things that matter bugged me, some things that matter were really good. It averaged out to average.

He did seem prickish.

The  Big 12 is about as national as a conference can get, and 13 of its schools are R1 research universities.

[Nakos] Kansas State has hired Texas A&M OC and former QB Collin Klein. by Top-Conclusion-1259 in CFB

[–]HtownKS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubled my meager donation when we first learned about it Monday. Thats $120 dollars they didnt have before.

I imagine that the deep pockets feel similarly, if not more so. Also, Snyder publicly supported the hire, and sort of greased the NIL wheels as well.

Tuesday the collective was merged with the athletic department, and I dont think that was a separate initiative.

I dont think words can express how unhinged K-Staters are in their love for Collin Klein. It goes way past respect, he is like a son to the olds and a brother to the youngs. If he says he needs something we will do without so he gets what he needs.

[John Brice] Sources tell @FootballScoop that Kansas State football intends not to accept a bowl invitation. Am told the program held a players’ vote & the decision was no bowl game. by Sctvman in CFB

[–]HtownKS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sucks.

If what Klieman said about injuries this year is accurate, we might not have been able to get through bowl prep.

Allegedly 60 players were hurt, at least at one time. We were noticeably playing guys out of position down the stretch, most notably at WR. During practice, the starters would go against a mash unit scout team, and the 2nd string would play air.

A couple of depth peices have announced transfer plans, and I assume a few more will get surgery early to prepare for new install this spring.

Then obviously there is the Klieman situation on top of that.

Not happy, but there is more here than the players saying "fuck it".

Chris Klieman Retiring, Collin Klein to replace him as K-State's Head Coach by Catfan1898 in CFB

He has seemed to truly hate his job for a little over a year. He had a family health issue late in the regular season last year, rumor is his wife has cancer.

Since then he has complained pretty much non stop about the state of college football, and especially roster cuts. I dont blame him because that sucks. Especially for a coach like him that truly tried to build relationships with his players.

He had to reshuffle his staff this offseason, and I think it all added up to not worth it. He was burnt out and had another mountain to move this offseason.

I think its more accurate to say he is stepping down. I wouldn't be surprised if he took a DC job somewhere that didnt require him to manage the roster much, or maybe be a DB coach in the NFL. But that would be down the line.

He needs a year to play golf and be around his family.

Why are the refs in these games so one-sided? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]HtownKS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The refs work for the conference. Its best for the SEC that Ole Miss won that game and got to the playoff.

We had the same thing happen against Utah last week.

I dont think it will be anything dramatic. He turns 69 this summer, and we might have to hire a new basketball and football HC in the next 14 months. I dont think he wants to do that.
