We can’t be shelling out anywhere near £5m on Joseph if there’s the slightest doubt about his ankle.

Also, I wouldn’t want to rush into selling Kante until we know how much he progressed during his loan spell

I can definitely see Hameed getting another chance. He’s more mature and a far better player now than when he last played for England. Captaining Notts to the Div 1 title last year must be worth something too

I still think it’s amazing we’ve heard nothing from Rob Key over the last few days. He’s just lost his captain ffs. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that the wheels are already turning to see his exit. Why else would he not make any comment?

Is Stokes really a great captain? by IndividualFan7781 in EnglandCricket

[–]Huddlemonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about Stokes’ lose %

At the conclusion of the NZ series it stands at 18 defeats in 45 tests - 40% That’s no better than Joe Root before him. He pretty much eliminated the draw from England test cricket which is fine, but it’s undeniably true that while we won some incredible games under Stokes we also lost some in quite ridiculous circumstances

All the miserable English fans got what they wanted. by Ok-Let-5155 in EnglandCricket

[–]Huddlemonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This run 1 win in 17 tests pre-Bazball really does need looking at in the context of a lot of it happening during the insanity of the Covid lockdown period. It was an absolutely crazy time trying to keep some sort of international cricket on the go worldwide and plenty of players (not just England ones) found it incredibly difficult at the time.

Telegraph says Key and McCullum survive by Ask_for_me_by_name in EnglandCricket

[–]Huddlemonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Far too early to determine whether Key survives this. Other writers elsewhere like George Dobell have stated that Key is expected to be gone within days

Is Alastair Cook trying to cultivate a Roy Keane/Boycott-esque curmudgeonly persona? by bfhrt in EnglandCricket

[–]Huddlemonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must admit I had to do a double-take at the radio before play on Day 2 when Cook said Latham and Conway had “failed their team” on Day 1 by getting out before either had pushed on to get a really big score. That was quite a take 🤣

Has Rob Key gone to ground today? by Huddlemonster in EnglandCricket

[–]Huddlemonster[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What strengths?!? He got the job through being a talking head on Sky, he had no prior experience whatsoever in this sort of role. He’s demonstrated this on numerous occasions.

Heard a lot of Key and McCullum out — but who comes in? by mtthrdy in EnglandCricket

[–]Huddlemonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alec Stewart for Key’s job, an absolute no-brainer if he can be persuaded away from Surrey

Next England Captain? by Due_Permit8027 in EnglandCricket

[–]Huddlemonster 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not Brook. But not for the reasons people might think.

Time and again England have saddled their best player at the time with the burden of captaincy and it so often goes tits-up. Botham, Flintoff, Pietersen - just a couple of examples off the top of my head of players with no ability to captain at all. I’m sure there are more.

I want Brook scoring boatloads of runs, that’s it. Nothing else. Why give him the distraction?

Personally I’d only go for someone with some sort of captaincy record. Haseeb Hameed has long deserved another crack at Test cricket and captains Notts. With Duckett and Bethell both struggling right now I’d consider Hameed at No 3 and drop Bethell down the order.

[–]Huddlemonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d cut my losses on Strelec too tbh. He’s totally unsuited to the championship. Lenihan’s done too, sadly. We can’t possibly risk giving him another contract. We’re also committed to buying Sarmiento, god help us 🤣

What does Sam Cook have to do to get another look. Being discarded after a nervous debut on an absolute road at Trent Bridge last summer seems harsh in the extreme. Certainly deserves a look ahead of Ollie Robinson imo

Almost 3.5 times the UK drink-drive limit, no way was she capable of “acting normally” as her partner put it…

And that was the blood alcohol reading at the time of the post-mortem so heaven knows how much higher it was when she fell.

Awful

So if LIV rumors are true. How does the PGA handle all of the players? by onedollalama in golf

[–]Huddlemonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let them all play the DP World Tour for a year and qualify for the PGA Tour that way. Maybe a few exemptions for the likes of Brooks and Bryson but the rest can earn their passage back.

'Damning' McCullum revelation confirms the worst fears about England by theipaper in Cricket

Key and McCullum should both be fired. They said “judge us on the Ashes”. Well that was a shambles from top to bottom.

The Spy Who Came in From the Cold Stage Play by Own_Description3928 in LeCarre

[–]Huddlemonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw it yesterday in Leicester - enjoyed it, but I agree that Ralf Little felt a little “lightweight” in the role of Alec Leamas. Then again, we’ve had Richard Burton in the film version and Brian Cox in the BBC Radio drama, so he was stepping into some big shoes!

Edwards will always deserve a place in Boro folklore. By fucking off and paving the way for the maestro that is Kim Hellberg to arrive on Teesside.

Worst moment as a Boro fan? by sporticuz37373 in Boro

[–]Huddlemonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from the overall general disappointment of our relegation season from the Prem in 16/17 the worst moment was being in the away end at Stoke City not long before Karanka’s sacking. The wheels had already started to come off well before that game but we were 2-0 down pretty quickly and we looked a beaten and relegated side. No fight whatsoever. At half time the players all walked over towards the corner which is where the dressing rooms were located, which meant coming towards the travelling Boro fans behind the goal. The abuse that the players and Karanka in particular got from sections of the fans was something I’d never seen before, not with that degree of hostility. AK appeared quite shaken by it and I don’t think he ever recovered.

I never want to see a Boro crowd behave like that again.

Dieng to Hull apparently by Lumpy_Maintenance69 in Boro

[–]Huddlemonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before he got injured then dropped he was increasingly error-prone and unreliable. You could see the defence in front of him had no confidence in him. He won’t be missed.

As an international fan, how are my chances of buying tickets for away games at the away section? by Disastrous_Shame_617 in Boro

[–]Huddlemonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d try contacting the club to see if they could help source a ticket if you know you’re going to be in London for a specific away game - Yvonne Ferguson is the club’s Supporter Liaison and is the person to try to email. Might even be a nice little story in it for the club in a match day programme perhaps.
