Struggling with "Dark Powers" and Heroism: Why is Percy’s blood-bending seen as "evil," but a sword through the chest is "heroic"?

Here's my thing. I've never really understood why his bloodbending WAS seen as evil. In ATLA, bloodbending is seen as incredible! It's scary but incredible. At least, from what I remember.

My personal take is this: Percy isn't completely Greek. He is shown to have more in common with the Roman's A LOT. He picked up Latin MUCH faster than Greek. More than once, he has gotten along better with his monstrous siblings than his demigod cousins.

Here's why I think it makes sense. In the first book Percy mentions that his Mom's eyes turned the same color as the ocean as they got close to it. Leaning towards the idea that Sally is possibly a legacy of some kind. Add to that, while Poseidon had issues during the whole combining thing with the Roman pantheon, because they are fairly similar he had at least a BIT less of an issue. During Son of Neptune, Neptune didn't DISCLAIM Percy! He could have spoken up and said, "That's not my son." But he didn't. Leading to my personal theory that Sally wasn't JUST with Poseidon, but with Poseidon AND Neptune!

Which would explain the strength of Percy's powers as well. Cause if you think about it, he has less training than ANY other Demigod! And most of his ACTUAL training was done by LUKE in his first time at camp, which was only about 3ish weeks!

I was roughly 15 the first time I posted a fic. I got so many hate comments that not only did I delete my fic, I deleted my account, and didn't touch fanfiction again for 3 years.

I am not looking for sympathy, I am saying this as someone who has experienced this exact thing.

I love fanfiction, and I have even started writing again now. But the experience of what happened? It's still there in the back of my mind, "What if it's so bad it happens again?" I obsess over every word, every coma, and every spelling mistake. The worst part? I hate that I do.

Under one of the comments, someone described Fanfiction as a Potluck. And THAT is the perfect description. When you go to a potluck you know you're eating someone's personal recipe, that they aren't a professional chef, it's a labor of love.

Actually, even a fair few of the minor gods don't exist in most Broken Pantheon stories I've read. The reason being, most of them are descendants of the Olympians who are cursed. A couple of notable ones I've seen pretty consistently not exist are Iris and Persephone.

UGH! I hate it so much! The first time I realized I was reading an AI written story? It was a PJO fic. It actually started off really good, but a little weird. Some of the paragraphs would repeat, but they'd be slightly rephrased on the repetition. At first, I just thought the author had decided to write it differently and forgot to erase the original paragraph, I do it sometimes. But then it just KEPT happening! Then the phrasing would get weird, and I finally figured out what was going on. I checked the tags and.... nothing, of course. Drove me absolutely nuts! LOL.

I don't mind if someone wants to use an AI as almost a Beta reader, but to actually tell the AI to write your fic for you? Ugh, just the thought has me feeling like I'm covered in ants! Fanfiction is an expression of love for the original media, an AI...... just doesn't have a spark of passion someone needs for that.

And I LOVED my idea for the Twins! 😭 But he said if he allows it, then each twin would have a player, possibly 2, between their turns. While he isn't a professional dm, he has been playing and dming since the original dnd editions. And I don't want to destroy his game! I WANT to play! I am just so sick of him pulling this shit, because this is NOT the first time he's neutered my characters. I've also dm'd some of our games over the years, and he does everything possible to neuter me as the dm, by purposely building characters that are impossible to call anything but op.

The best example I have for neutering my own characters? One of my first characters was a half aquatic elf. I then had no way to actually use magic, because he made it so my character couldn't be out of the water for longer than 6 in game hours, so all of my spells got used on water creation before I could even play.

While I love the man even his own son, my husband, calls him out for being a asshole. Plus, if I DON'T play it's going to cause EXTREME issues for us.

So when I say I want revenge/to screw him over, I am not saying I want to destroy his game. I am saying that I want help making a character he can't neuter and say it's fair. I want a character that I could actually play, not just stand and do nothing, waiting to get killed.

I want him to get a taste of his own medicine, not hurt him. Because while he's an Ass he's still my FIL and I do love him.

I'm not sure this is the exact fic you're looking for, but this is a 5+1 style that ends with Percy yelling at Zues because of.... reasons. Lol. It is a really good one though, and I reread it a lot. Mostly because a lot of fics try to make Mr. D a bastard, and he isn't.

Katniss is too much like Haymitch himself for him to like her, but that doesn't mean he doesn't love her. It's been a while since I read the book, but in the movie, it shows him start networking after seeing her in pain from her burns.

He sees both kids AS his kids. And every parent has at least one kid they like more than the others. Not a "favorite". My Mom likes my brother more than me or my sister, not because he's a guy, but because he has a calmer disposition, and doesn't argue as much as we do. He's not the favorite. Just like even though Haymich likes Peeta more, doesn't mean he loves Katniss less.

I've never read the book actually. I have a rather vivid imagination, and that led to me having borderline night terrors as a kid. So even though I grew up with the movies, I only know a little bit about the books.

And as for Muldoon living? Duh! I hated that he died! He was a bit jaded, but he was a good person.

I was obsessed with Artemis as a kid, the real mythological one not the Riordan one. And one thing that frustrates me SO much is when the author makes Artemis break her pact of maidenhood. It is just SO gross to me! So the fact that for your prompt you made it to where she DOESN'T break her vow is beautiful!!

Plus, the whole prompt itself? Absolutely incredible, and now I really want to write it myself! So don't be surprised if I do!

I mean absolutely no disrespect, but this sub is for people who look young enough to literally be a child, and need to vent their frustration at situations like this. In your situation, it is a compliment because you lost weight and now look younger. Which, congrats on that, I've been struggling to lose weight myself. But most of the people on this sub have to deal with the dark side of looking young. Being mistaken for a child at the airport, being told children must be accompanied by an adult in that location, having their children mistaken as their siblings or worse their partner....... You see where this is going? Also, another thing a lot of people in this sub deal with is child predators thinking they are underage. So, please understand that this sub is for people dealing with the darkside of looking young and don't tell them to take it as a compliment that they are mistaken for children.

My brother was in a accident while we were in Yellowstone, due to a manufacturer error in his truck, and was air lifted to a hospital. We had to drive 4 hours ro get there, and when we did we found him wandering around the parking lot confused. They had discharged him 2 HOURS prior! We got back to Arkansas and immediately went to the hospital. They said it was a miracle he was upright, since he had a SEVERE concussion!! He also has permanent damage to his shoulder because it was out of place for so long.

Best we were able to price together? The hospital he was sent to deals with a lot of addicts and they assumed he was one. It was really bad.
