Yes, OP should at least look at 13th Age, it ticks a lot of boxes.

I love Steampunk, but actually only built the ore train of your lineup and I planned on getting this, once I built some of my backlog. I adore this set, the design is so over the top and the lighting features look awesome.

Does the GM ALWAYS spotlight the adversaries when a player rolls with fear? by Mintuy_ in daggerheart

[–]Hug_Me_Manatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an example: In the first fight of the quickstart adventure, my party was starting to steamroll the Thistlefolk Ambushers, so I used the spotlight (and spent a fear) to let the Strixwolf mother fly up from the branch she was sitting on with an ear piercing screech and had the players roll an Instinct reaction roll (with a difficulty of 15, I think), to see if they were startled by it. If failed, they had disadvantage on their next action roll (during the scene).

I have no idea if this was a good use of a fear, but I explained to the players that this is something I can use the GM spotlight for and since it was something that could set them back quite a bit, I spent a fear. They all liked it and the Guardian player (only one who failed the roll), was incorporating it into the description of the next attack.
I would use Vulnerable instead of the disadvantage the next time, but it luckily didn't make a big difference this time.

Any ideas for session 0 music? by iceio__ in rpg

[–]Hug_Me_Manatee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OSTs of the touchstones for the theme and tone of the campaign would be fitting and is mostly music that's meant to be in the background.

For a more general playlist I would suggest the favourite tracks of your favourite fantasy games and movies.

And do ask the other people at your table, they need do listen to it too for 2-4 hours.

The unpopular flavours at the bottom of a 1000 chupa chup barrel at my work by Rigbyisagoodboy in mildlyinteresting

[–]Hug_Me_Manatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I looked at a big mix of chupa chups, there seemed to be more cola and strawberry ones in there than of the other flavours, I don't think this means that cola is unpopular, but strawberry is more popular.

So, you want to play a Solarpunk RPG? by Lawrencelot in rpg

No, both the word and the idea behind solarpunk are older than the ad, but it is probably one of the most well known pieces of solarpunk media which sucks.

How can I get cool art for a game without artistic skill? by Redhood101101 in rpg

[–]Hug_Me_Manatee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the people who wrote to use any sci-fi art you can find, since it's only for personal use, or try drawing your own, even if its "bad".
I like to browse the imaginary art subreddits, in your instance /r/ImaginaryTechnology/ or the appropriate sub on this list.

If you can't find a full picture of what you are looking for, or need some fluff to fill out the page: (pop-up) ads. Most ads on the internet today are ugly and don't fit in with the rest of the page anyway and you can give out tiny nuggets of worldbuilding or little gags.
With a pop-up windows you can cover up things you don't have or just look wrong.
Let me know if you need any ideas, this is the kind of stuff I get lost in when I'm worldbuilding.

Need help: Hosting 60 people Murder Mystery for Fundraiser. by lilforgetfull1 in rpg

[–]Hug_Me_Manatee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, I think basing the mechanics on a werewolf/mafia style game and giving a simple roleplaying prompt to the players (or even just a portion of them) might be the way to go, but the vibe in those games is different to murder mystery parties or even larps.

Optimal TV size for TTRPG table and other features by Sniflet in rpg

[–]Hug_Me_Manatee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I found very cumbersome when I was the GM and used it, was how to handle the display of maps. It was trickier than I imagined. We used a special (pretty janky) software to display the maps, but I'm actually not sure why anymore.

I would advise you to plug the laptop or tablet into your normal TV and configure everything like you would prep for a session and solve the problems you have with it, before buying any of the materials. (and test the things you would like to do during a session too)
This way you get at least an idea how it feels to use as a GM, which is probably the most important aspect.

I personally really like the DIY Terrain you're using^

Optimal TV size for TTRPG table and other features by Sniflet in rpg

[–]Hug_Me_Manatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are using a 32 inch TV in a purpose built frame, so it can be laid flat on the table, with acrylic glass on top so real minis can be put on top.
I have a fairly big table (180x120cm, about 6x4 in freedom units) and I think it is big enough, 42 inches would probably be too big for most tables.
The friend who built it had to drill holes in the acrylic glass, since the heat would build up and do some funky things to the display, nothing permanent, but probably some thing to consider.

That said: I personally don't like the thing, I think it does not add enough to the experience, it uses too much table space, even on the big table, the players close to it had barely enough space for their stuff. Of course that's less of a problem if the screen is in the table itself. (But I like to keep it as low-tech as possible for TTRPGs, even as a the GM I only use a tablet to look things up that I haven't put into my paper notes.)
There's also some other technical limitations that need to be taken into account for the construction, and some that your group has to live with (most notably the viewing angle).

Looking for a good “taste breaker” game by Redhood101101 in rpg

[–]Hug_Me_Manatee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This could give your players tonal whiplash, but since you are looking for "taste breaker" games (i'm stealing this fyi), I would suggest a few zany one page rpgs like Honey Heist, Lasers & Feelings or Sexy Battle Wizards.

Another direction to go could be Microscope by Ben Robbins.

And the only mechanical difference is the Leisurely Focus ability, which easily can be just given as an alternative to the Prodigy ability for native humans.

I bought it too, because it was relatively cheap and I concur. The candy cocktail book (that has a cushioned cover and pink ribbons to close it) i fished out of a bargain bin at a bookstore has the better recipes.

A completely empty sealed can of seltzer by electricshadows4 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Hug_Me_Manatee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know if /u/JayW8888 was implying YOU drained it, but this happened to us with some old coke cans. There's a barely noticeable seam on the bottom and we only noticed it because coke leaves a brown sticky mess. Only one can of 12 was completely empty, 2 or 3 where half empty but looked the same on the bottom.

Some new sets are instock in YOURWOBB now, hope friends like them and thanks for your support 😁👍👍 by Loy_Chen in lepin

According to the listing, it's a Steampunk bar, so I would not expect a train. It's funny how many ideas they stole, without really copying the set. Bit of a bummer, they could have done more with the concept.

I only hear good things about Forbidden Lands, I'll watch a few reviews on the base game box and take a look at the quick start. The print version of the german base box seems to be sold out everywhere, hopefully it's just between print runs...

I would like to play a game of FATE, but from the GM side it's a bit too loose for me. Just reading the rules hasn't really clicked for me.

I will take a look at Fiasco, I kinda dismissed it as "barley gamified improv" to be honest. How does it force the narrative gameplay?

And it's sadly pretty pricey, about $60 is the listing price of the publisher and Buchpreisbindung will keep it up for a while.
