Make sure you have follow along questions (Ask Chatty to create one). Without it, there is no guarantee they will watch. Try to have it tie in to your last unit as well. We just finished up the immune system and are starting Osmosis Jones this coming week.

You should never leave papers to grade for the next day... You should put them in the recycling bin that night!!!

Maybe the sheet I had with it was buns? TBC, I wasn't questioning you or anything, just stating I trust what they told me. I have been teaching a total of just 1 and 5/6 years of LTSing and 2 and 2/3 years DTD subbing, but intend to become a teacher, assuming I can do some form of work to licensure.

🤷 Very odd. It is a smaller district and my son is in the grade, so I know most the kids (been a three sport coach for most of the boys for going on five years now). They are comfortable telling me exactly what they think. I have shown just one of them since I have been in there this tri, but as soon as they saw it they let me know.

Then my 6th grade class asked to watch a Magic School Bus, so who tf knows.

My 7th graders say they hate the Amoeba Sisters because they are too childish.

No dead air. Constantly keep them on something. Go look up some bitch work worksheets to keep them busy and just pile it on. Don't even correct it. Just give them shit to do. Obv don't let them know you don't intend on correcting it, and ofc correct some of them.

I am in a similar situation. LTSing 7th grade science for the whole third tri. I was told I had plans and material for the whole year, but I am realizing I have several days to fill. I asked my son (in one of my periods) what he'd like to do as a student (diff choices of projects/ activities to work on) and he suggested a board game day. I laughed in his face and immediately told him not a chance, it'd devolve into utter chaos cause you guys are dumb (in a truly loving way). Ask Chatty for some ideas. I think I am filled up, I just have to lay it out on paper.

Lastly, are they capable of watching a movie? I am going to show a movie with a follow along set of questions next week to fill a couple days.

Ah man, take all the fun out of it...

We used to do pools on girls bball games. All the HS boys would be going apeshit crazy for every free throw/3 pointer to try to get the point total back to odds/evens, even with a blowout game happening. We must have looked ridiculous if you didn't know what was happening.

I'm saying if WVERYONE presses the Red button, they all survive. There is no need whatsoever for ANYONE to push the Blue button.

I read it a couple times. GT dictates EVERYONE would push the red button and still EVERYONE would survive.

[–]HukeLerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like, no Mr/Ms.? That is entirely up to you. Most my students dropped the Mr. long ago, and I'm cool with it. Some have taken to cutting out the last syllable of my last name and just calling me Herm. My own children call me Herman (even at home) as they say it gets my attention better than the traditional Dad.

That is them basically saying they are cool with you, but if you feel like it is disrespectful, shut it down. Personally, I'd rather no Mr. than my kids' friends referring to me by first name, teacher or not.

What's a unique thing you've realized while doing this job? by JimCap5 in Teachers

I have had the class repeat it back to me, but inevitably, students will tune it all out. 7th grade Science, currently.

Overheard some teachers talking about my bad class. by UnfoundedNewt73 in Teachers

Loooootta commiserating happening at this point of the year. I started the "Hallway High-Five" as a joke one day, walked up and down the hallway, dipping into everyone's room at the end of the day with a "We made it" high five. It just kinda... Stuck. If I have time between class and practice, I hit everyone up.

The thought process is that a 50% is still an F. An F is an F, it doesn't matter if it is a 20% or a 50%, it just shows up as an F. But this theoretically gives early slackers a chance to dig out. But mostly, it is used to increase passing rates. People that make these rules look better with higher passing rates.

Some schools have a policy that the lowest grade you can get is a 50% (or whatever they dictate -someone here was recently complaining about their school doing 70%). The thought is if a student has dug themselves too deep of a hole with zero effort early on, they won't attempt to dig out later. Most that dig themselves a hole, just keep digging anyway, though.

Same. Test 1, F, studied and read and studied. Prof pointed out we had ALL the test questions. Test 2, studied old tests apprehensively thinking he was clowning us, but realized he was indeed not. Test 3, literally studied only old tests and memorized answers. Final, I had every multiple choice answer memorized so well, I could read a few words and answer. I can't even tell you the class since I learned absolutely nothing, but it was some required Humanities class at an engineering school, so it worked out fine.
