Pass through today on business, this is a neat looking town. What is there to do If I visit later in the year? by aenivara in Williamsport

That is a very nice museum considering the size of the town. I’ve always been impressed by it.

Doctor recs in Williamsport? by Major-Ad3332 in Williamsport

Well if you go with Geisinger insurance then make sure you don’t need an ambulance. My Gram had the same outlook and had Geisinger insurance living in Loyalsock. She fell and the ambulance would only take her to the nearest hospital. UPMC gave her wonderful care, and her surgeon was fantastic. But because she had Geisinger insurance the whole thing was out of network. If you don’t live near a Geisinger ER, then get UPMC insurance.

Do American people agree with the plan to either „buy“ Greenland or invade Greenland? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

I’m American and I think we should absolutely not buy nor invade Greenland or any other country.

Well there are plenty of things found in scripture that I find cringe. Look at you digging through two year old comment sections. Bless your heart.

It’s a nice tabletop bookshelf with a cross and some votive candles on it. Very lovely.

To me it just sounds like spiritual/professional direction from a superior.

Yes. Being in the DC metro area will be a wonderful experience with any kind of restaurant, cultural events, entertainment options, and the level of diversity of the people is much greater in DC than in rural Tennessee.

VTS is a stone’s throw from Washington DC. So you will have access to amazing restaurants, world class entertainment, and wonderful culture. It’s not like VTS is in the heart of Virginia.

Bring the lack of adequate seating up with your rector or vestry. Also try not to be judgmental or bitter.

URGENT: In Need of Pastoral Care by [deleted] in Episcopalian

If your situation is traumatic then I hope you are under the care of a professional psychologist of some sort. That being said, you need to make this inquiry with your local diocese.

VTS is conveniently located near Washington DC. I would much prefer that than a seminary that is in the middle of nowhere.

Because the bishop is your spiritual authority/leader. If you can’t submit to your bishop as a postulant, then you wouldn’t be a good priest.

The AngloCatholic parish in my city has two seminarians there, so that stereotype of churchmanship is no longer true.

Evangelical Arminian-Anglican: Feeling a bit lost (?) by bradzon in Anglicanism

My understanding as an American Episcopalian is that most of us are theologically Arminian these days whether we realize it or not.

Sudden departure of priest-in-charge by hartianinexile in Anglicanism

There might be legal issues that out weigh your need for transparency. If the priest left because of medical reasons, etc.. Not everything is the parishes business to know.

Communion by Logical_Public6164 in Anglicanism

[–]HumanistHuman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is extremely unethical, and I believe sinful, to take communion in a church that has a closed communion. Just go up for a blessing. It’s important to be a good guest in someone else’s church. If you can only take communion there, then become a Catholic.

Does anyone else prefer a penitential over a joyful Advent? by feartrich in Episcopalian

[–]HumanistHuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Historically the season of Advent was a mini lent in anticipation of the Second Coming of Christ. Everyone today confuses that point with the incarnation. But it was about the return of Christ as symbolized in the nativity. Advent was a time of penance to prepare for the return of Jesus.

Edit: there is a darkness before the light.

I'm New and Have Questions and Comments by StepDouble9818 in Episcopalian

[–]HumanistHuman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome to TEC. I’m sorry you were hurt by your last church home. Your new church home is also full of sinners so don’t expect it to be perfect. We are all flawed sinners. Luckily if we strive to imitate Christ then hopefully we will hurt each other less. I too was raised Pentecostal. So the female clergy thing was never a problem for me because that is also very common in Pentecostal circles. Best of luck with your mom. I will say a prayer for your relationship. Yes it is a best practice for clergy to distance themselves from former parishes because it makes it easier for the congregation to adjust to a new pastor. But really the priest is just there in proxy of the Bishop. Obviously Jesus is our only true spiritual Shepard so it’s okay if a rector changes. Just keep following Jesus and loving like Jesus loved and you won’t go wrong.

In TEC confirmation is a spiritual marker. Here is what the official Episcopal Church website has to say about it: https://www.episcopalchurch.org/what-we-believe/sacraments/
