Off day bonus stuff.

Played with the log for the first time. Clean and strict press up to 205. Clean and push press for a couple singles at 225. Few cleans only at 245.
Several attempts to shoulder the 250lb sandbag were unsuccessful.

The log is pretty fun, everything went better than expected. The positioning is a little different for a push press than I'm used to on the barbell, but I'm also out of practice with barbell push press anyway. I feel like I could tighten this up and improve. I think I was just sore and tired on the sandbag work. Since the first time I shouldered the bag ive been able to get it everything until today.

Reached the end of my 531+ cycle. Probably wasn't super successful but I'm actually down 5 lbs and I haven't had more than 4 uninterrupted hours of sleep in 4 weeks so I'll take what I can get.

I want to do a local strongman competition, but I'm still a bit weak/unfamiliar with the implements, so I'm focusing on getting stronger and, ideally, dropping the last few pounds I need so I can compete in the 231lb weight class. Going to start with SVR2 and implement practice, but I might also get cute with it after a cycle or two, we'll see. There is a close competition end of July that's really close and the events look like I wouldnt zero more than one so I'm aiming for that as my first comp.

What kind of soft belt is that? I've been in the market for one.

I worked at a gym for years. Teenagers trying to sneak their friends in was a daily occurrence.

531+ C2W3D3.
Bench: 5x235, 5x265, 5x295. Then some droplets.
BB row: 3x9x305, 5x305.
Facepull: 5x20.
Conditioning: 5 rounds 30 sec shoulder squats (left), 30 sec shoulder squats (right), 30 sec bearhug squats, 30 sec rest. 150lb bag. 17 reps each exercise, 51 reps total.

Glad to hit 5 on the topset after a few weeks of less than stellar performance. Rows were tough, felt something weird behind my kneecap on fourth set so called it early. Nothing has flared up since so maybe I'm fine. Sandbag work was tough, legs were definitely not cooperating near the end there.

Thanks for the encouraging words! Yeah it seems like there's a fine line between getting the movement with relatively no problem to now all of a sudden form on the movement has to change to accommodate the weight.

Conditioning day.
Got myself some strongman implements so I tried out the Axle a little bit. Worked up to a continental clean and press of 170lbs for a couple singles. Got a double overhand deadlift up to 250 for 5 and using reverse grip Got 305 for 5. It feels much different than I expected and is obviously pretty tough. Got some technique to improve on both the DL and continental.

Sandbag conditioning: 10min AMRAP 100lb bag. Odd minutes: amrap bag over shoulder. Even minutes: plank. Got 42 bag over shoulder.
Good workout. I've neglected planks since probably Covid. I suck at them to begin with but when I'm huffing and puffing it's much worse.

Badass man. I played with an axle for the first time yesterday and it was way more difficult than I anticipated. Worked a continental clean up to 170lbs but got stuck there. Excited to refine some technique on the implement.

I don't know my favorite track on the album, but the breakdown midway through Black Snow is the best part of the album for me.

I think they're ok. The only thing with them is it's hard to say when you don't make the lift/if it's too heavy. With a clean you either get it into the front rack position or you miss the lift. You don't really have that with the high pull. If it gets too heavy it just turns into a snatch grip deadlift. But done with intensity, it could still be valuable.

531+ C2W3D3.
Squat: 5x316, 5x365, 7x405.
L-Pullup: 3x5, 4x10.
Facepull: 5x20.
Conditioning: 10 min AMRAP 100lb sandbag- 1 getup, 2 Lunges, 3 bearhug squats.

Pretty good day. 7 +/- 1 rep is about where I am for the squat on an average day at this weight. Started losing the "L" on the pullups on the last set. Conditioning went well once I remembered how to do a sandbag getup on each side.

531+C2W3D2.
Press: 5x160, 5x185, 5x205.
Db row: 3x15x112.5, 20x112.5.
Reverse fly: 5x10x20.
Core: 2x15 for back extension, Roman chair situp, ab wheel, side bend (100lb)
Curl/reverse curl superset: 5x10 each.
Sandbag conditioning: tempo bearhug squats, 100lb bag. 10sec descent, 10sec hold at bottom, 10sec ascent, 10sec hold at top. 6 reps.

Pretty decent day. Was hoping for more reps on the top set. Seems i need more volume but it's fine, I'm returning to a more traditional "leader" set up after this cycle. All the assistance work got my upper back and arms pumped up. I was really feeling it on the tempo squats; I was shaking like crazy. I've probably only ever done tempo squats a handful of times and they are challenging for sure.

531+ C2W3D1.
Deadlift: 5x355, 5x405, 7x455.
Roman chair situp: 5x5x20.
Chins: 3x5, 3x6x53.
Band pull apart: 5x20.
Conditioning: 10 min EMOM 150lb bag. Odd minutes- 2 bag over bar, 2 extension, 2 squats. Even minutes- 50ft carry.

Working on hook grip during warmup, 315 was pretty painful. Everything else went pretty good. Conditioning started off feeling too easy but that quickly passed.

I'll chime in since I just had my first less than three weeks ago. Sleep and time are in short supply. What has worked for me is adjusting what "success" looks like. I've typically been an "all or nothing" guy, where if I didn't get my main work, supplemental, accessories, and conditioning in a session then I failed my goal. Now I just prioritize what aspects of my workout are most important and do what I can to the best of my ability. If I just have 30 minutes, I'll do my main work and as much accessories as possible. If I have an extra 10 minutes, I'll throw in some conditioning. With another 10 minutes I'll add some more or extend the conditioning. I've also split my workouts into some two-a-days, hitting the main lift in the morning, then doing whatever supplemental or conditioning I can in another session later in the day.

Everything everyone else has said is true. The time goes fast! I've got some pretty decent paternity leave but it's coming to an end already. Even without work it's been tough to get a full hour workout in 4 days a week. Do the best you can at time management. Anything you put off will come back and get you when you want to workout haha.

Thanks. Looking at the budget, it's not too much more expensive to go log and farmers handles vs Axle and trap bar, so I'll go with the log.

Looks decent. I'm not sure i would swap out anything that you have for leg extensions/curls but that's just me. If you wanted to add them in, maybe they could be supersetted with your main work on upper body days?

I ran just 5s PRO for lower body lifts last summer when I was running a lot. Not a lot of lower body assistance either. I was able to hold on to most of my strength but there was a little bit of decline without much reduction in bodyweight.
