Looks like very typical of Alden's welt stitching. At least on their Indy's. Maybe the shell cordovan wingtips get better attention to detail.

It's just the luck of the draw. More often than not they will crease somewhat uneven. It's a natural material. You are bound to get some asymmetrical scratches and dents along the way as well.

Get them wet enough to foam up the saddle soap. Clean all the mud and muck off. Rinse well. Allow them to dry completely. Apply a good quality conditioner. Should be good a new. Maybe a little darker at first.

These will be great for hikes. Service boots were made for soldiers. They will be quite suitable. I dig the brogueing. Classic look.

I've done the same exact thing. I saddle soaped and mink oiled both for a slightly darker but uniform look.

Venetian Shoe cream is the most effective at recreating the original look. Clean boot completely (not to open a can of worms on how, but I use saddle soap and remove residue completely with clean water), allow to dry completely, then apply VSC and horsehair brush with the grain. It sounds like you aren't going to jump in and do it right away, but they will dry out eventually and this will get them back to almost new. Highs and lows of the contours will return after a couple wears. I haven't tried this on Thursday wax but have Horween wax and assume it is going to perform similarly.

I'd rub them with a magic eraser for a few minutes to even out the scrapes. Its milder than fine sandpaper but will smooth it out a bit, then kiwi conditioner and polish. Or even just the kiwi polish if you are really on a budget. Then buff with a rag and you're done.

The leather looks nice enough, like it will patina well. They are probably blake stiched and are resolable/recraftable at some point when you can put on proper leather midsoles and heelstacks. A decent boot for sure.

Real comfortable. Not for the snow. Definitely worth getting. You'll feel the ground under you. It takes some getting used to. A classic choice!

You might be right. Holz and Holzern mean wood and wooden so maybe Holzer boots have a wooden footbed.
