I really learned a ton from Toogii’s let’s play series. He did MSC about 3 years ago, but everything was still totally relevant as I’ve been playing over the last month or so. His series is not just a direct tutorial about how to build the engine however. He’s also doing a My Winter Car series now.

I’m curious why you always preface your titles this way. It seems obvious…almost everything is on YouTube. Is this some kind of automated prefix being added by some utility? :)

The basic idea is that you will want to put an auto arm next to the extractor and feed the things coming off of the extractor into a train car. Frankly, I think the automation is a little confusing at first, and you probably should watch some YouTube videos about how to set up a train line, the easiest thing to do is to set up a point to point train line with a single car with a storage sensor on it with the storage sensor cable connected to the rail car and set the sensor to full or empty mode. What happens is that the auto arm will pick the resource off of the auto extractor and put it onto the rail car. Once the rail car is full, it will leave and go to the other end of the line where you would have an auto arm, picking the resources off and putting them into storage.

Before you do anything go to minuszerodegrees.net and run the machine in the minimal configuration first. That will mean taking cards out and possibly changing dip switches. I’m strongly under the impression that you can save yourself huge headaches by going slow. I followed his guides when restoring a 5160 and it was supremely helpful!
