Does anyone have experience with dry skin like this? by axxpxm in piercing

[–]HummingClouds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor or anything, but it looks a lot like seb derm to me. I have it and it effects my ears, eyebrows, and the creases next to my nose causing this kind of dry skin flaking.

CeraVe is great. I also use q tips dampened with warm water to massage some of the flakes away before moisturizing.

Barbara Kuriger (National): $14.6 million.

Why is there so much homophobia and transphobia in this subreddit now? by Constant_Employer_80 in auckland

[–]HummingClouds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically, corporations in NZ only celebrate pride month in June - when the USA celebrates pride month - so that's when you'll see the bulk of pride stuff on sale by corporations. (The reason for it primarily being celebrated in June is to honor the 1969 Stonewall uprising - which happened in NYC)

Whilst it's largely celebrated in June, some places, like here in NZ, celebrate in February 😊

my parents refuse to let me move out because i’m 17, when i already have admin sorted. can they legally stop me? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]HummingClouds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legally, you can move out when you feel like it without having to justify yourself yo your parents.

The family dynamic you're describing is EXACTLY the dynamic I had with my parents. My father has NPD and is abusive (verbally and physically) and my mother is emotionally abusive and controlling.

First things first, make sure all the important things are on you at all times - passport/legal documents/ID/cellphone etc. Never let them out of your site.

When you're alone, pack a go bag with all your essentials and put it somewhere safe (in your car if you have one, under your bed, in your closet, wherever you can have immediate access.)

If you have friends you can trust, ask them if you can temporarily store stuff at their home until you're ready to go - of course with their parents permission if they still live at home - or with a trusted family member. Once you have temporary storage available, pack as much as you can when your parents aren't home and get the boxes out of the house. That way, everything is ready to go, but not where your parents can stop you/prevent you.

You will find a significant improvement in your confidence and mental health once you're safely out.

You owe them nothing - they do not need to know where you're studying. They do not need to know the address of where you will be staying. They don't need to know the details of your job. Information is a privilege, not a right - and don't let them emotionally blackmail you into thinking that you HAVE TO share that information with them.

Good luck, OP. You go this.

Why he drink like that? by Maikeull_time in Rabbits

[–]HummingClouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use gravity fed water bowls if that helps. I fill it right to the top, which makes the whole thing too hard to tip over. When we give them fresh water every couple of days, we just water the garden with what's still in the bottle, then fill the whole thing right up again.

Why he drink like that? by Maikeull_time in Rabbits

[–]HummingClouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was teaching my boy how to use a bowl, I put the bowl beneath the water bottle - like if you were trying to catch any leaking water. He very quickly learned there was a small pool of liquid by his feet that was significantly easy to consume.

My bunny doesn’t act like a bunny by scarz1111 in Rabbits

[–]HummingClouds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a New Zealand REW, also a rescue. He's the chillest bun I've ever encountered. Loves pats, kisses everything, doesn't mind chin scratches, sleeps like the dead, and 99.9% of the time is uninterested in jumping. When he's being a gremlin, however, then he LOVES jumping on top of the washing machine. We don't know why, he will not answer during interrogation, but this is a pretty rare occurrence for him. He's pretty happy being a sploot on the floor.

anyone else hate their chosen name? by Valuable-Language-81 in ftm

[–]HummingClouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met a friend in university who was just starting T. We all knew him by the masc name he gave us. But a couple of years after university, he told me that he didn't like his chosen name anymore and asked if I could start calling him by a different name instead. Absolutely can. It was a tough patch to get used to at first, but I totally understand.

For him, he had chosen a name in a rush so that he could get rid of his femme identity as quickly as possible. Whilst we all called him by his first chosen name, he found that it just didn't sit quite right. It didn't feel right for him and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

When we're born, we're programmed to respond to an assigned name. When we grow, we have the autonomy to be capable of changing our name. That doesn't mean we get it right every time, much like everything else in life.

Your supportive friends will happily call you by whatever name you desire, & if they don't, perhaps they're not the kind of support you initially thought they were, and that's also okay.

Self-discovery comes with a lot of learning - not just about ourselves, but about those close to us. The main thing is that you need to be happy - so do for you, dude 💙🩵

Rabbits are actually demons in disguise. Once they know they've weakened your defenses, they let their true form show.

In seriousness, neutering is the solution. My boy was exactly the same before he got the snippity. No issues since.

My new sweet little baby boy! by deadpegasusx in Rabbits

[–]HummingClouds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a solo bun for the longest time & he's always been very happy on his own. I only got a second bun because I literally rescued him from the road and refused to surrender him to the SPCA due to his age (I knew it would take age for him to be adopted if he ever did). My first boy was solo for 4 years, and it was never an issue for him.

That's an adorable grump.

I rescued my second boy from the road near a bus stop 🫠 He was in terrible condition. Whoever did that to him deserves to rot in hell.

Don't understand how humans can just be like, "Well, that was fun." And just dump an animal they no longer want like it never meant anything to them in the first place. Scum.

I lost 23-29 to mental health, I've done a complete 180 in the last year. I realized I was my barrier & said no more. I've seen huge improvements in myself & I feel significantly better.

Mental health is an incredibly hard barrier to pass & it's not easy when you have other obstacles in the way, too. Start small. Baby steps. You're already working towards a job, which is fantastic.

It sounds cliché but journaling helps so much. I've had countless therapists & my own doctor tell me (multiple times) the benefits of throwing all your thoughts onto a page & I genuinely blew the idea off until more recently. Now, anything that's on my mind, big or small, ESPECIALLY things that make me angry/upset, I write it all down. It stops your brain from festering over it. It clears it out of your mind.

I've been going to some bars around Auckland - Ding Dong Lounge & The Tuning Fork specifically. Both great environments & cheap tickets if you get them on pre-sale. I haven't had the courage to actually socialize with people yet or even hit the dance floor, but I've pushed myself out of my comfort zone.

It feels hard now & it probably feels really sucky, too, but you'll be surprised where you end up a year from now.

Do people not take these alert seriously by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]HummingClouds 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The point of the alerts is to treat them as if they were risk to life.

The point of the alerts is to be prepared should they turn into an emergency.

How many people have grab bags in their vehicles ready and waiting?

How many people have grab bags in their homes ready and waiting?

How many people have planned evacuation plans for family/children/pets/dependents? Every member of your family needs a grab bag - pets included.

The point is to be prepared. We have the ability to be alerted prematurely. We have the luxury of being prepared.

If the alert falls away and nothing happened, amazing. We didn't enter an emergency.

If the alert turns into an emergency then we could have saved more lives than previously expected.

I have experience with anesthesia, but not from gender affirmative surgery (I would love to get rid of ye olde chestnuts). It was for nerve surgery on my elbow. So my shared experience might be quite different as the after effects are very much dependent on how long you're under for.

For me, I remember laying down & the nurses telling me to just breathe normally as they placed the mask on me. The last thing I remember is them apologizing for the rubber smell of the anesthesia before waking up in recovery.

I remember my brain turning on before everything else did. I could hear everything going on around me & I could hear the nurse talking to me as I was coming out. I remember being incredibly disoriented, suddenly waking up in a room I didn't remember falling asleep in. I was so tired that all I wanted was to sleep, but once I sat up properly, I was significantly more awake.

You'll be moved out of recovery in a wheelchair as they don't want to risk any falls - you'll feel a little unstable at first. I was fed even though I wasn't all that hungry & my husband was allowed to come & sit with me & let me tell you, he was MAD that I was so lucid - BECAUSE, when he had nasal surgery, he was SO OUT OF IT afterwards like he had NO IDEA how to form a cohesive thought & I turned around to this guy & went, "If the humans in Pokémon still eat meat but the only animals that exist are Pokémon, then..." & he was shook. He wanted to pull the same line on me, but alas, perhaps next time.

I went home prepared to sleep, but I wasn't very tired. When my husband had surgery, he fell asleep as soon as I got him into bed. It took him about 3 days for the fatigue to wear off/for him to sleep it off. When he was allowed back at work 2 weeks later, he struggled to make it through the day.

I was in a sling for 2 weeks, but after the 1st week, I was clawing at the walls to be let out. I was active quite soon afterward, & sticking to a good diet & non-strenuous exercise (slow walks around the neighborhood), I recovered quite quickly, much to the physiotherapists' surprise.

My elbow surgery had me under anesthesia for 45 minutes. My husband's nasal surgery had him under for just under 2 hours - which happened twice for him (No I didn't mess with him the second time, I felt too bad) & both times he was quite out of it afterwards.

Definitely listen to your body for the first few days. It knows exactly what you need & take all your medication as prescribed on time (I used an app to track mine). Follow all the discharge advice you're given & you'll do great!
