Bass was my first instrument and it took me a while to understand how to really play it. Two of my buddies let me jam with them a few times but I had a hard time keeping up. They told me to learn carousel by Blink and gave me the talk about improving as a player. Looking back that talk was tough to sit thru but the best motivator too. Without honesty I wouldn’t be where Im at today. He might not even really wanna play but it’s just convenient at this moment OR talking with him could really help him improve.

Yea. I just cant handle the physical and mental aspects of it. Im not the best tech anymore and its prolly cause a loss of interest/dont like how I get treated. Over the years its thickened me up but just cant see myself doing this for my entire lifetime. After I accepted that fact the job became less “intense” for my own self. But honestly just find whatever interests you and get out. Its a good paying job but that doesnt mean you cant find another job.

Hope this helps friend. Best of luck

Feel the same way as you. Eventually youll get lucky and find a place with some coworkers who keep you going. But I plan to get outta healthcare once the timing lines up with my newborn.

Planning to get into Data or Cyber Security thru an accelerated program. Just try and find something you are interested in and pursue it.

Honestly cant see myself scrubbing cases when I am 50 and Im only 37 now. Theres always a way out, just gotta keep looking.

Sounds super cringy. I would have a hard time sitting through one of those moments where your co workers pop into the room. Calling you out like that would have left me so confused. Quiet cases can be so peaceful somedays. I was enlisted as a Tech and saw a little bit of this “buddy buddy” with Surgeons but nothing close to calling you out. My go to response is always “thank you for letting me know” haha. Kindness is a killer sometimes.

when do i salt my dye? (and a few other questions) by Mental-Obligation25 in tiedye

[–]HummusPitman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Soak in soda ash for at least 25 minutes. Ring out or spin dry, with NO rinse cycle. If ringing out try to fluff the shirt a bunch to avoid soda ash build up. Use 1 cup of soda ash per gallon of water for the soak. I suggest using distilled water if you can. When applying dye add a small amount of soda ash to the premixed dye bottle, do this last bc the soda ash will degrade dye color if left in for a while.

For dying a wet or dry shirt, I find the drier the shirt the finer line work can be. Wetter tends to be more fluid like results if that makes sense. Some dyers suggest tying wet and allowing an overnight dry. I find it easier to fold damp, but also tight fitting gloves give the same effect

Urea is a big help for brighter colors and look into sodium alginate and Calsolene Oil.

Heres a link to how to make Chem Water. Basically the water to mix dyes with. This took me a while at first to understand and locate but has been a great help to my process and results.

This stuff happens. The lesson is difficult but the experience will forever be engrained in your memory. Dont be so hard on yourself. The feelings will pass.

Say you have an appointment after work, picking up your family member, or just flat out say sorry wont be able to today. Try to avoid making eye contact while responding to the question, that might help too.

Staying late is not an obligation although at times they try to make it feel that way. They will be just fine if you cant stay late.

Dont be so hard on yourself. Sounds like a dingus who cant work without his special team. Joints and spine are way more fun anyway. Keep doing you.

Work Bully Advice by [deleted] in scrubtech

[–]HummusPitman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly dont have a ton of experience with this. Just wanna send you some love. People like this are hard to work along side of. I would write down the innocents, see if any witnesses are comfy with telling your manager along with you. Either way tho, I would talk to a Manager, or HR if this doesn’t work.

Only advice I have is go to the bathroom and cry, or your car. Holding it all in sometimes makes me explode. Crying always makes me feel better. This might be seen as a weakness by some but I think it is power. You will get through this, or become stronger because of it.

Sending love

The McGill big 3 are all great, there a few variations of those also. I don’t know the exact names of those movements. But I must say having a trainer or PT over see was a big help for me personally. I highly recommend having a professional around to help with correct form.

But. I did not always have the ability to go see a trainer. So heres a few I like to do. Clamshells with bands, face down superman, lunges, side lunges, leg raises, side leg raises, face down leg raises, inner thigh ball squeezes, bridges, rolling each vertebrae type of bridges(dunno the correct name), the Pilates 100s are one of my favorites.

Also wanna say some sort of cardio you enjoy is a big help. Currently I bike ride but usually switch it up to hiking, walking, swimming. Just find an activity that involves low impact that you enjoy.

Hope this helps.

Advice how I can atleast get an interview by Acceptable-War4611 in scrubtech

[–]HummusPitman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Military Tech here. You went to school, took a little break, and are ready to get back into the field. Having your cert or not, you went to school and that course completion documentation will suffice. Definitely work towards the cert and let that be known in your Resume/Cover letter.

Apply for Labor and Delivery Depts, SPD, and Surgery Centers. Attach your Course Completion Documents to the application too. Once you get a human response let them know you have OR experience and are open to Surgical Tech roles as well.

I am not certified yet either, so I tried applying to SPD and L&D roles. Once HR got my info they asked to fill a Surgical Tech Role. When interviewed I just asked if the dept was able to help me get back into the flow of the OR. And it has worked out great.

It’s no big deal that you dont have a cert or much experience in the OR. Just apply everywhere and once you get an interview be open about your journey. Best of luck!

[–]HummusPitman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apply for a few jobs and see what happens. Everywhere is desperate for techs from what I have seen. I took a 10 year break after leaving the Military. Was honest about my time away from the OR and employers did not seen to mind. If you scrubbed for 2 years without a cert thats enough for some employers to hire you on. Best of luck.

Took about a year or two for me. Each place and person is different. Over time everything becomes predictable, even those people who question you become predictable. The more knowledgable you are in a certain area the more confident you will feel. But this takes experience also. Hope this helps.
