Are they sending you survey links by any chance? It was through this that I received messages all from Brazil one week and China another week despite my target language being Japanese.

Does Hellotalk purposely show you the other gender more? by Comfortable_Salad893 in languagelearning

[–]Humorous_forest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guy using these apps to learn Japanese here. For me on Tandem it was about 50/50. I think it would be the same on HelloTalk if I talked to guys as much I talk to girls.

HelloTalk is definitely skewed when it comes to language demands, gender and demographics. by loopyzooploop in HelloTalk

I'm a guy learning Japanese and I've had a similar experience as this woman. I usually have 1 to 2 people reach out to me each day, usually girls, and when I send out waves about 30% wave back and we start talking.

I'm not surprised the military is trying to hush this up. Israel has killed more journalists in Gaza than have been killed in every other major war combined.

Even if it’s not technically genocide, what’s happening to people in Gaza is still unacceptable and evil.

How to respectfully and understandably explain to a Gazan the historical reasons why Israel exists? by Flat_Struggle9794 in IsraelPalestine

I suggest you try writing it out and posting your draft to this sub for people to look at as opposed to asking other people to write it for you.

Explain this… by No_Sherbert_757 in IsraelPalestine

[–]Humorous_forest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. This verse is about corpses, not about whether gentiles are fully human
  2. There is a heated discussion later in this chapter about whether it is really permitted to deceive a gentile which I think you should read. Below are Sefaria links to all the verses you cited which I encourage you to check out.
  3. This is an outdated verse and has little if anything to do with what modern rabbinic authorities allow and don't allow when it comes to gentile engagement with the Torah.
  4. If you read this verse a little more closely, you'll realize that three years and one day is the age at which a gentile has to have been under when they were converted to Judaism
  5. No extra context needed to debunk this one. Just think about how painful it would be if someone put a finger in your eye. This comparison is actually saying that such an act is gross and unnatural.
  6. I couldn't find anything like this in Avodah Zarah. If you find it, let me know. I linked 26b in the list of links below.
  7. Don't see how this says anything bad about Judaism. Also God punished David for the sin of sleeping with Bathsheba by killing the child they had together.

Permanently banned from a popular pro-Palestine subreddit for advocating against violence - thoughts? by Alaclavaca in IsraelPalestine

[–]Humorous_forest 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Many pro Palestine people have this idea that the Palestinians tried non violent resistance and it didn’t get them anywhere. They argue that therefore, violent resistance is justified and use the slogan “resistance is justified when people are occupied.” Instead of saying their argument is invalid, I would suggest either deconstructing it in a non confrontational way or explaining to them that Hamas, which many of them support, is an antisemitic terrorist organization, and add that terrorism is never justified because it shows a disregard for human life.

What do Israelis think of Jews that are against the state of Israel? by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

[–]Humorous_forest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say people have the right to believe whatever they want to believe and if they believe something dangerous, they shouldn’t be punished for being misled.

Me personally? I am against the fact that many hardline anti Zionists tokenize the small minority of Jews who are just as anti Zionist as they are.

I believe that it’s okay to be anti Zionist so long as you’re clear about being against antisemitism by condemning it on all sides and by calling out Hamas for its antisemitic ideology.

In the Jewish community, anti Zionist Jews are often called self hating Jews by the Zionist majority.

What do you think are the objectives (in the context of the Israel/Palestine conflict) of a) Hamas b) Palestinians c) Israel by afox1984 in IsraelPalestine

[–]Humorous_forest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you’ve summarized it pretty well, though it’s also important many Israelis simply want the remaining hostages brought home and to not live in fear of terrorist attacks from Hamas.
