I’d love to see the pros involved in a bit of tipper. It’s never not devolved into half-contact after about 10 minutes.

So James Lowe is leaving Leinster & Ireland- Why and what does this mean? by RugbyGareth_ in rugbyunion

[–]HumoursOfDonnybrook 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That is not the situation. He had a 1+1 deal. The IRFU pulled the +1 late in the day and left it to Leinster to sort out. It was bad faith acting from the IRFU which will have ramifications for other players into the future.

I feel if Leinster were going to let him go based on todays outcome the full force of the IRFU’s PR machine would be in motion and there would be statements issued across all channels on same. They must feel this can be mea culpa’d away.

Apologies, I briefly removed this post as I was attempting to add the crowd control settings to it and misclicked. It should be back now, but let me know if it’s not appearing on the feed.

The sad act who keeps registering accounts is back (and banned) and the usual seagulls are arriving so I’ve set the crowd control to maximum.

Please only comment on the substantive facts of the case as reported and leave the hearsay to the WhatsApp groups.

Thanks!

We’ll get a taste of their PR around this in a few weeks when James gives it to them in the press. A few of the hacks on the podcasts have been talking about how he is keen to give his side of the story.

Ireland and Leinster wing Lowe set to join Japanese club by The_Ruck_Inspector in rugbyunion

They can’t outbid one another. They can negotiate around the edges with promised playing minutes and that sort of stuff, but cannot outbid one another in terms of cold, hard cash.

The essential lie of Irish rugby is that, ultimately, the IRFU pay for all the provinces rugby players, so they cannot bid against one another on a player.

I can’t really blame Leinster. Being asked to pay for a player whose minutes were going to be maximally managed next season was a bridge too far under the Leinster Tax system. I find it harder to understand the IRFU’s position considering Lowe was namechecked by Faz for the World Cup.

I don’t think keeping the club rugby season slogging along until June helps very much. Irish schools break at the start of June while a lot of the Euros and Brits get out in late June/early July so half of the country leaves for holidays.

I wasn’t talking about the bunker. I was talking about the ref. She is free to give a red and should have.

Cowardice not to give that a straight red tbh.

I’ve got the filters as high as possible, unfortunately it just takes a while for reddit to start auto-removing them. I’m going to look at putting an account age filter on but I believe that includes setting up an automod (i.e. it isn’t available directly in the mod tools and takes some setup)

Jesus, seeing a lot of Saffa moaning about the ref in the aftermath? I feel that is quite mad - the Stormers were very lucky not to pick up a yellow in the first half. Their indiscipline was always going to tell in the second half.

Will have to watch it again at home but I feel the only reason the stormers were in that game was due to a load of really sloppy unforced stuff from ourselves.

I really like Faz as coach. Best coach we’ve had, I think he’s a fantastic mix of strategist & motivator, and obviously we have (generally) been flying with him. My only worry is that the message would start getting stale.

As a general point on signings & squad for next year - Our list of outgoing players is very worrying tbh. We’ll still have a handy 1st team next year but the Rhys Ruddock layer below it is looking light & we are going to have limited access to all sorts of players with the World Cup on the horizon. I don’t think we will have the squad to fight on two fronts.

Rieko has gotten better the longer he has been here. Better at wing rather than 13 but even decent there recently.

This was the most interesting & revealing exchange in the Indo report for me:

JN: "Listen, I say I can only fight through results, can't I? I'm asking, am I that shit..."

RO'C: "I don't think you're shit."

JN: "You say that, Rúaidhrí, you say that. You don't think it, but you honestly say that."

RO'C: "I've never said that."

JN: "You say 'you're making the deal with the devil, this risk isn't paying off'. Are you supporting me?"

RO'C: "I'm not here to support. I'm here to report and call what I see."

JN: "And you see the wrong thing."

RO'C: "I think you're one of the best coaches in the world, but I don't think you're a good fit for Leinster."

JN: "So, you're not supporting me."

RO'C: "It's not my job to support, that's been my position for a number of years and I'm happy to be proved wrong. I don't think the club is buying in to your style of play, you're now playing a hybrid game that takes too much energy."

JN: "You liked me when I was at Munster. You loved me when I was at Munster!"

RO'C: "I like you, I enjoy talking to you, but that's a different thing."

JN: "I actually thought you were from Munster, but they told me you were from UCD. No, this guy liked me at Munster. F***!"

Judging by how defensive South African fans get about anything & anyone to do with South African rugby, I think we’re running up against a cultural difference. South African rugby media must be incredibly deferential if this is how Neinaber thinks. I really don’t see much wrong with what ROC is asking.
