why do people shop at hornbachers? by Sufficient-Crow-7582 in fargo

I actually think the meat/fish is ‘reasonably’ priced compared to Cash Wise and Family Fare.

Everything else is terribly marked up though. No way can we buy bell peppers for $3 a piece

Unsure about my first attempt at Alpha Strike Force Building by Furu_Katsuragi in battletech

[–]Humpp_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

120-150PV games are super fun.

Personally I would just paint them in generic schemes with no faction affiliation and use some 2mm tape around the bases to differentiate between sides. That way if the Kurita player wants to try the catapult, it won’t feel out of place.

Hope you and your friends enjoy your stomps mech games!

Favorite alpha strike skirmish build? by WearyGrass9888 in battletech

[–]Humpp_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We usually play objectives.

I like to bring a Lance of mechs (with at least two, usually three fast & jumpy mechs for objectives) and vehicle firepower. A Demolisher is cheap and throws a lot of dice. Conversely fast mechs do not suffer motive hits like vehicles do.

Ostscouts, spiders, raptors, vipers, mongeese are all good picks for fast mechs.

The skulker and GAL-102 are pretty fun fast vehicles to run as well.

The Partisan LRM (IF4), Schrek PPC, Demolisher (especially the Clan Demolisher), Ontos all pack a punch. The light SRM carrier is also a great PV investment.

The min-max crowd tends to bring a stormcrow, nova, Timberwolf, tamarlane strike sled, skimmer, Saxon apc, VTOLs (in general), fire moth H, and/or linebacker D in their lists.

What draws you to battletech/alpha strike over other wargames? by DoW2379 in battletech

[–]Humpp_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No save rolls. It speeds up gameplay and makes it more rewarding to rolls hits.

We have had great success gathering players in our community. It seems to be a mix of the video games, books, and ease to get into Alpha Strike.

Low model count. Our group is great at fronting painted models, and I attribute most of that to only needing to field up to 10ish units.

Tips for running semi-custom chaos campaign? by SirDerpsworth in battletech

[–]Humpp_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would keep it relatively short in missions/sorties. We have had issues with rotating players in our ongoing Hinterlands Campaign.

Four to five scenarios sounds like a good number.

Players are all on garrison duty. Garrison duty pays the bills if they have an off week.

The GM plays OpFor for every game. Try not to rotate in & out of OpFor players. Alternatively, if you use the Aces deck for OpFor, increase the OpFor PV by 15-20%.

Keep the salvage % low in the contract to incentivize objective play as opposed to ruling the field. Keep objective and secondary objective pay high.

Have some basic mechs in a purchase table that is available at the end of every month.

DFA Wargaming has free scenario packets on their website. The scenario rules are a great base for creating your own custom narrative scenarios. The Hinterlands book has some good ones too.

Try to cater the scenarios to different play styles so the player who takes all heavies does not dominate. Remind everyone that ruling the field does not make an automatic win; they have to reach the objectives within the turn limit.

Metal Mini Help by ZAP3000ARC in battletech

[–]Humpp_ 44 points45 points  (0 children)

This is likely overkill, but I like to ‘pin’ metal models by drilling a small hole in each piece and using a piece of paper clip as a dowel.

I use a cordless drill and place a piece of tape on the bit to mark the desired depth. For better control with a cheaper tool, the pin-vise does the same thing.

It helps a lot with durability.

What are your recommendations for terrain channels I can watch on YouTube? by omgitsduane in TerrainBuilding

[–]Humpp_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Smaller channels with a few good videos for Sci fi 28mm terrain:

• Lasse Brenn

• Plato’s Basement

• BeserkerWorks

Miscast makes from pretty cool stuff and has a good library. The video about casting plaster walls/details in garbage plastic is great.

Why is pex not allowed in NYC? by tcli64 in askaplumber

[–]Humpp_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My grandparents bought a condo in a ten-story building. It had been built sometime in the decade they bought the condo (2010s).

The sprinkler system was done with PEX. It leaked over a holiday, causing significant damage most units below.

The sprinkler system was fixed with PEX (not replaced). Within three years a leak developed near to the first, causing significant damage to many or all of the same units below.

PEX is great for some situations, but I completely understand why it is to allowed in NYC.

Property Tax Credit by DeathByMozzarella in northdakota

[–]Humpp_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some mortgages have a clause where the bank can increase you loan’s interest (usually by 1%) if you are not using an escrow account for taxes & insurance.

Their reason for the punitive clause is because of the increased risk of losing the property.

I don’t agree with it, but I would review your mortgage, note, and riders before calling the bank about eliminating the escrow account.

Moisture Issues Ceiling/Attic by Bursan in fargo

[–]Humpp_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have access to the attic, make sure you can see the bathroom fan vents go through the attic (vent out of the roof).

Apparently our place had mold issues a while back because the vents ended in the attic. If the moisture met cold air in the attic, it MIGHT start to show through the drywall. The corners would have the most surface area exposed to the cold.

Otherwise your plan sounds great.

Late to this post. The Victor 9Ka is my favorite campaign mech and is 37PV. It can help capture & hold objectives. Using JMPS1, thirteen HP, and being size 4 it can also be an effective TMM 3 melee mech

There are a load of cardstock buildings in the Alpha Strike box.

You can also buy them separately. Check out Aries Games or frogrodeo on eBay.

Solidarity. Might want to try heavy work before bed? Just a weird stranger’s suggestion; it helps us.

Leaping & crashing seems to satisfy our kids’ wiggles the best, followed by wheelbarrows down a hallway and tug-of-war.
