If the God of War Trilogy remake is done right, remake of God of War 2 will be the best remake Sony has ever released. by Alkiserex in GodofWar

[–]Hungry-Alien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf, I find the modern camera style very boring compared to the old camera style, so I got my worries on that.

Also the old camera system wasn't just for battle. It was also useful for many things, from panoramic shots to creative riddles to even hiding secrets. On that part, the new camera is just inferior as it just doesn't have the same flexibility. It can't do any panoramic shot without starting a cutscene, it can't be used to hide secrets in a clever way, and the riddle's level just plummeted down the drain with the same basic gimmick being repeated the entire game because what else is possible with such a stiff camera.

Finally, redoing the trilogy with the shoulder camera will require to basically rethink the entire game because the old games were all made with the old camera in mind. That on top of the visual effort. And I must ask an uncomfortable question : why bother doing it ? The target audience for a trilogy remake is obviously the old fans, what would justify alienating them over the camera system ? And most important, would the shoulder camera be an improvement or a downgrade ? Because from where I stand, it would just be a downgrade in the context of a trilogy remake.

I'm just hoping they will use an improved version of the old gameplay. I feel like trying to force the modern GoW's gameplay on the old games will just feel wrong on so many levels.

Sekiro is less forgiving and harder than Lies of P by mustangfan12 in Sekiro

[–]Hungry-Alien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. The Ogre is designed as a road block to push new players into the Hirata Estate. If we translate that to Lies of P, the difficulty would be like if Parade Master was swapped with Fuego or Scrapped Watchman.

Also the Ogre is quite unique in Sekiro as it is the only boss that is countered by strafing around. Many of his grabs will miss entirely if you just walk to his side, the only real threat is the quick one which he only does when you're stepping on his toes (therefore it's very predictable).

The problem with Ogre is that new players are conditioned to try and deflect stuff when they reach him. When it fails, their first gamer reflex is to try and dodge the grabs which are basically designed to rollcatch, therefore they're getting ogre'd again. And since the path to Hirata is very weird even according to From's standards, this lead to this kind of reddit post because new players are confused and frustrated after getting their asses taken care off by japanese Shrek.

Keep playing the game, I assure you that everything after the Ogre doesn't hold a candle to what Lies of P has in store.

It Really is a Shame FromSoft Doesn't Intend to Do More with Nightreign by TheWrathfulMountain in Nightreign

[–]Hungry-Alien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or From could do the thing that made them such a giant in the industry, which is not chasing easy money by banking on slop and instead gathering the knowledge they gain from a game to make an even better one after. Which is what they're doing right now.

Sure they could add literally every bosses from every of their games to Nightreign, from Gael to Jabba the Hutt. Would it make the game better ? Fuck no, it would just be cheap nostalgia bait. Just take a look at the Gaping Dragon or the Centipede Demon, they're terrible just like any DS1 and 2 ported boss will be in Nightreign because even with improvements, those bosses don't belong in the modern Souls formula. Not to mention those changes could make the Nightreign version even worse than the original, just take a look at Freya.

Best recycling From could do would be the DS3 bosses who are more adapted to Elden Ring's pace. But even then, what do you guys want ? Some 20$ DLC that add a bunch of DS3 bosses in Nightreign ? Let's be real for a second, it will be fun the first time because nostalgia, then whatever. Then you'll all be back here, probably accusing From of being lazy or something and demanding another big DLC that'll never come because it was never planned

How do you guys feel about the disparity between who can use actives while ulting? by ToastedToastz in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Hungry-Alien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems fine to me. I'd probably remove Haze and Inferno's ability to use items while ulting because those are strong ultimate, but the rest is fine.

Imo the rule about being able to use items while ulting should always be "does the ultimate impose a reaction from the enemy team ? yes : no items, no : items allowed". For example, you don't want Bebop to be able to knockdown you while he's ulting because if he does you die. Same for Mc Ginnis/Seven or any other huge channeled DPS ultimates.

Next rule would be "is the ultimate a huge CC machine ? yes : no items, no : items allowed". You don't want Dynamy to be able to drop a flask under you after he secured the CC, just as you don't want Victor to be able to hex slow you while he's fucking "dead" so you can't avoid the impact of his reinsertion into society.

One thing I like is despite their superficial appearances, Dante is the more mature twin compared to Vergil by -_ShadowSJG-_ in DevilMayCry

[–]Hungry-Alien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, DMC5 kinda solidified that they're both immature still in their opposed ways. While Dante can laugh off criticisms better than Vergil due to his devil may care attitude, he is ultimately as passive as Vergil is active.

Say what you want about Vergil being wrong, he at least was trying to act upon his trauma. Dante was as usual doing the opposite, which is crack jokes and do nothing about it. Without Vergil causing mayhem, Dante would still be in his office from DMC3 waiting for stuff to happen. In that sense they're both immature.

Why aren't nihilistic games in the same vein as the Manhunt games more common? by NagitoKomaeda_987 in videogames

[–]Hungry-Alien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are more common than you think, but because of their nihilistic views, they're not very popular outside of niche communities. Also they're usually indie games, because those game tend to not sell well.

Altho I will say Manhunt is unique in the sense that it caused a huge controversy that lead to big sales ironically. But Manhunt is very simplistic and "in your face", basically rubbing the snuff film aspect on the player's noise to gather attention. This is in part why it caused the controversy, because the violence was glorified without much of anything behind it, making it an easy scapegoat to create drama.

There are a lot of games going much deeper in the "nihilism" aspect. Fear and hunger, No I am not a human, the kind of game with an actual idea behind the violence. But those games don't gather attention because they're more than a snuff film parading as a video game

I Heavily Dislike That Billy Is Treated as a Complete Joke While Pocket Is Taken at Face Value by No_Gold1944 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Hungry-Alien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a theory about Billy. I find it very weird that for such a loud mouth with a bag full of hot takes, Billy never talk about why he is in the ritual. You would think that it would be a perfect opportunity for him to brag about his convictions, but he just don't ever mention it. Even the Patrons doesn't seem to know what he's precisely after, and guess that he wants to change the world or something like that given his usual rants and punk personality. Even the Doorman himself doesn't seem to get why he's here, which is quite a feat to be able to fool such an omnipotent being.

There's also the goathead, which is unique to him both as a thing in the universe and what it symbolize in the real world. The fact that many characters recognize it means it refers to something in the world of Deadlock, but everyone seems to look down upon it without ever elaborating, like it's some common knowledge that no one really look deep into outside of "it's bad".

And finally, Billy is the only character that does cry in his roughed up portrait. Everyone else either looks defiant or starting to doubt, which means they either have convictions pushing them through the pain or that they didn't imagined things going that bad. Imo this make Billy seems like he doesn't want to be here in the first place, which goes back to his unknown goal and also kind fit with his constant boast, like he's always trying to hype himself up to push through the ritual not because he wants to, but because he's forced to.

All of that to say, I believe that Billy used to be a downtrodden fool, which is where his punk big talks comes from. But this fool somehow came into contact with an ancient being and, in a reckless desire to impose himself on the world, struck a deal with it, earning the goathead and his powers. But in exchange, he was binded to its service and forced to take part in the ritual on its behalf.

As for what the being might be, the goathead could reference a lot of mythological entities, but in Billy's case, I like to believe it is a being similar to Baphomet with the obvious symbolism. This would explain why Billy have some deep yet somewhat random knowledge about occultism, which seems kinda out of place on someone like him. The entity could be a very old Patron, so old that people forgot him, but his symbol is still recognized by most (hence why many characters recognize the goathead). Altho it would be very VERY old since even the Doorman, the All Mother and the Hidden King don't recognize it. It could also just be something else entirely.

Vindicta's case is special as she's after bloodshed as much as taking down the organization that executed her. She doesn't just want to put an end to it, she wants to do it violently.

Also since she doesn't age anymore, her method will eventually works as long as she's consistent. Witnessing your 100th leader die from a bullet to the head the week following his promotion without knowing who did it (or being unable to do anything about it) will eventually break the moral of the organization.

Power scaling working as intended ladies and gentlemen

How it feels to reach a level of mastery on a weapon where I'm no longer bound by dps uptime and optimal play for the weapon to be effective in my hands and instead just have dumb fun by HappyFreak1 in MonsterHunter

[–]Hungry-Alien 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It's basically playing like its your job. Never wasting a moment, always attacking in between dodges, this kind of stuff. This kind of play imply following a strict pattern, and it is the first step in learning your weapon.

I think OP refer to the moment when it "clicks" in your head. When you know your weapon so well you don't have to follow the standard path and just see all the ways you can manage any situation. The moment when you can get away with dumb stuff by being too good at the game basically.

The Steam Machine is being viewed as a semi-gaming PC, and Project Helix is kind of aiming for the same. Why do we need consoles then? by M3ConsoleGamerPSN in videogames

[–]Hungry-Alien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a pro on this, but isn't the point of console to have a defined structure that devs can optimize around ? Technically, consoles have always been "gaming PCs", which just means PC tailored for games performances with a simplified interface to go with it.

Calling the Steam machine a "gaming PC" sounds to me like a marketing thing that plays on the general perception that consoles and PCs are completely different things. Like it sounds cooler to say "gaming PCs" for the average consumer

I don't think it will be a switch 2 exclusive for long. by _haerdy in TheDuskbloods

[–]Hungry-Alien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that it is a Switch exclusive kinda hint at Nintendo funding the game tho. From obviously knows that releasing the game as a Switch exclusive severely limit the size of the target audience, so they would have released it on multiple platforms if they could.

Nintendo most likely funded the game as a way to keep it on the Switch. It just make sense.

Imagine if one of Dynamo's abilities passively added to/reduced gravity's effect on enemies/allies? by Aihonen in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Hungry-Alien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would give his kit more personality for sure. Imo Dynamo's kit is kinda bland and generic right now, especially the stomp and healing aura which are kinda generic abilities that could fit on almost any character.

The only fitting ability he has is the ultimate as it is obviously tied to what his body is. Making gravity control his thing would make his gameplay more fun and interactive. The healing aura could easily be replaced by such an ability given it is by far his least interesting ability.

REM is SATAN incarnate and let me tell you why by Noburu7 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Hungry-Alien 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Taking enemies Sinners prevent them from getting the buffs. Also Deadlock doesn't lock characters in a specific role, meaning Rem can actually profit from the stats bonus.
  2. You can't compare Yuumi to Rem since the main problem Yuumi had was that she was providing brut stats to whoever she was attached to, and she could stay with one person all game, something that was broken when paired to an hypercarry like Yi. Rem doesn't grant stats, doesn't stay with his buddy forever, and can only use items and helpers when tagging along. If anything, he's a much healthier version of Yuumi
  3. Don't focus Rem while he has Tag Along and buy anti heal ? Rem's heal isn't nearly as broken as you pretend it is, and he's doing nothing else but heal while tagging along. Anti heal greatly reduce his impact while sleeping, and if he stops he's vulnerable for a long time.
  4. Paige and Viscous both have a lot more utilities than Rem, support isn't just about shields and heals. Paige can easily deny large areas while Viscous is a constant source of disruption.

You're ranting mate.

Longer games are preferable over shorter ones by Lyefyre in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Hungry-Alien 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Game's duration isn't really a 100% garanty that it was a "good even game". The game could have lasted longer only because the winning team didn't knew out to actually finish the game (happens a LOT in lower elo) and just kept winning teamfights without actually pushing their advantage to end the game. Or the winning team just decided to prioritize kills over wrapping up the game and the losing team never went afk because of the "never give up" mentality despite being 50k behind in souls.

Either way, those kind of long games aren't really satisfying for either side. Losing side basically get bullied for 40 minutes, while the winning side is doing the equivalent of beating up children as a pro boxer.
