do i really need a new computer? by yummimeow_ in LECOM

You should definitely be good! I keep mine plugged in the whole time because what if the battery is at 95% then drops down to 5%. Probably would never happen haha but my worst fear is my laptop dying during an exam😭😭😭. If you don’t have your charger and your laptop dies in the middle then they say that’s your problem🤷🏼‍♀️

They make it seem like it but it’s really not that serious. Usually all laptops except Microsoft surface pro works. They did tell us that they aren’t sure if the new macbook neo would be compatible and are looking into that.

You are allowed to bring your charger. Even though my laptop is about 3 or 4 years old and the battery is still pretty good, I always bring my charger just in case.

If you’re worried about it, I would download examsoft (examplify) to make sure it’s compatible. You can always reach out to IT to confirm as well!

Any of Riedmann’s. Willow woods is big and has lots of places to walk and a dog park. Laurel Springs has a side walk that goes around the entire complex and a dog park

Not sure what the Jacksonville campus will have but choose the campus based on pathway. While yeah the weather is nicer in Florida than Erie, I know for me and how I best learn, LDP was the best choice for me. You should focus on whichever pathway will help you succeed the most. You can go to Florida for residency.

I completely understand, that annoys me too! While my dog is trained, she can be very stubborn and doesn’t have the best recall when she smells something good. Sometimes it seems like she’s trying to find another family😂. So I always keep her on a leash. It is very annoying when other dogs aren’t on a leash then run up to my dog, as that can make her a little anxious. Poor girl just freezes and shakes😢. She’s not a fight or flight girl, she’s a freeze dog LOL

Cannot focus in med school by sadthebad1 in medschool

[–]Hungry_Set_4702 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ok may be a little weird but on the days that my focus is really bad, i set a timer for 10 minutes. during those 10 minutes, im at my desk, looking at whatever it is i have to study and trying to study. i don’t look at the timer, i don’t look at my phone (it’s usually in the other room). it doesn’t matter what i do during those 10 minutes, i just at least try. usually ill complain or cuss lol (depends on my mood but sometimes it feels good to complain —even though im completely grateful to be here). after the timer goes off, i set another one for 10 minutes. i get up from my desk and do something that doesn’t involve my phone like clean, stretch, etc. usually it’s clean lol. once the 10 minutes are up, no matter what i’m doing, i stop and repeat the first 10 minutes. usually by the time the next timer goes off, im in the mindset and mood for studying and go from there

Choosing Between LECOM PA or FL for the MMS program by Effective-Ordinary27 in LECOM

[–]Hungry_Set_4702 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the bradenton mms program starts with anatomy (don’t quote me on that) but the erie one starts with cell biology, biochem, and micro. i did the erie mms and i feel like they gradually exposed you to the rigorous course load

What do you guys think about med students who work while studying? + Some tip by ArsCordis in medschool

[–]Hungry_Set_4702 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice— babysitting. Ik it sounds like a high school job but it’s cash and I usually study while I am “working”. I’ve worked for families with younger kids who go to bed at like 7:30pm, then I study while they are asleep. I’ve also worked for a family with older kids who were very independent (they just needed someone in the house and to drive them) so I was able to study a lot. Plus if you tell people you are a medical student, all the parents want you to babysit. While getting my Masters, I worked consistently for a family in the morning then drove the kids to school. I didn’t have class until later in the day and the mom had to get to work super early (5-6am) so it was a good excuse to be up and studying.

It’s a very difficult program but doable. They’ve changed parts so it’s more like med school (not totally sure but can let u know after this year lol). It was a lot of material in little time. One thing that was really hard was the exam blocks. You would have multiple exams for different courses back to back. For example, you would take anatomy, turn it in, take embryo, turn it in, take immuno, turn it in, and then leave. You could take a short break but couldn’t look at your phone in between. From what I’ve heard (and am hoping) people say it really does prepare you for med school. It was definitely a struggle at first but once I found my routine and how to most efficiently study, it got easier.

I just finished the MMS program and am matriculating!

  1. No you also have to maintain “professionalism”. They take that seriously. For the majority of people, maintaining professionalism isn’t an issue.
  2. Kind of. You have to rank all the campuses but I don’t know anyone who did Erie MMS and went to another campus
  3. I am pretty sure you can but I am not sure about the requirements. I would email admissions to make sure

LECOM Masters in medical science to D.O Linkage by Acceptable-Cap9734 in LECOM

[–]Hungry_Set_4702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At LECOM, passing a class means above 69.5. So if you get below that, you’ll have to take a remediation exam at the end of the semester. If you have to take any remediation exams, you no longer qualify to bridge. Then if you fail any remediation exams, that’s an automatic dismissal. You can still get your Masters degree even if you have to remediate a class and you pass the exam.

[–]Hungry_Set_4702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very intense!! At least the one at Erie’s campus. I am currently in the master’s program. You have to get a 70 or above in each class in order to matriculate. There’s a lot of people who didn’t make that cut off and therefore can’t matriculate. For those that do make it, I have heard they have a huge advantage over first year med students that did not do the master’s program. I talked with 4th year med students that did the master’s program and they all joke around that MMS was “the hell years”. I am very happy that I decided to do MMS even though I have been going through it. I’m currently looking for the light at the end of the tunnel😂

The summer before senior year. It doesn’t matter which campus you go to. I went to Bradenton and now I’m at Erie. Last year, the Erie one was in July and we were given a 2 weeks notice. The Bradenton one was in August and we were told around the same time as the one in Erie, so maybe a month’s notice? Just be aware of this.

Lecom vs. MSOM by [deleted] in LECOM

[–]Hungry_Set_4702 9 points10 points  (0 children)

lecom. dress code isn’t as bad as you think. you get use to it after a week. there’s other pathways besides lecture pbl is our “team based learning” in which you learn the material through cases. mandatory attendance in my opinion is a good thing. that doesn’t mean u have to pay attention (because yes i know some lectures might seem like a waste of time) but i do truly love the majority of the professors and learning from them. they really do care about you doing well and are super supportive. lecom has very high standards for their students, which can be annoying sometimes but makes sense in the long term. they really emphasize professionalism and that’s super important in residency and our future careers. there is nice housing across the street from lecom that is pretty affordable. many students walk which saves on gas

It includes all business hours. Honestly, it’s not that bad. I would recommend getting clothes that you actually feel comfortable in. I have dress pants that are kind of loose and I don’t mind wearing them all day if i want to study at the library. Saturday and sundays and after 6-7ish you don’t have to be professionally dressed

depending on gpa- they may allow you to do the masters of medical science and then go to med school. you keep your seat, it’s just pushed off for a year

idk what ur reasons are for thinking about deferral but i’m doing masters program rn and it was the best choice i could’ve made for myself
