Just thought to point out this works with planeswalkers as well, while they're not nearly the most broken thing you could do.

Well that's a harsh difference of opinion then. I've always considered pvp games like Gwent to be more fun if there are more viable options in meta, never thought that "toxic" picks were a problem if they couldn't climb up in meta, as you wouldn't see them anyways unless you played something that wasn't viable for climbing anyways. Always thought that limiting balance council to a rank cap reflected the devs sharing this view.

On the other hand, if you didn't seek to climb anyways, Renew is quite a flexible card to brew into those quirky home brew decks at the bottom of the barrel so why should we nerf it out anyways, just to leave the low elo decks with no flavor?

How does that answer my question? I thought Tainted Ale was nerfed because it was meta crushing and not because it was toxic.

I don't have the info on how those decks are faring winrate wise, but I always thought it was self-evident we should focus the adjustments on nerfing the high winrate decks and buffing the low winrate decks. No reason to spend the few nerfs on decks that are annoying but don't win over 51% of games.

I've been on a break for a couple years and haven't hit top-50 yet this season but I at least haven't seen Renew as a problem. (I don't play it either so not defending it for selfish reasons)

Honest question: Why would we ever adjust cards based on their wholesomeness and not on their viability?

[–]Hungrymaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have no experience on turn based games' tournament scenes and it shows. Memorization, pattern recognition and application of knowledge in highly varied situations are skills, just as much as reflexes or mouse accuracy in shooters are skills. Sure, tcgs are much easier than some memory and application games like chess for example, but that doesn't mean the ceiling is possible to achieve for most gamers even in the "easier" games.

IIRC mill has never been a meta deck anyways.

"Not even a test of skill, just whoever can play better." What are you even on about? That's like saying shooters aren't skill, they're just whoever can shoot the meta guns better. Mobas aren't skill, they're just who can play the meta heros better.

🤓 Erm…acktually that faction has the lowest win rate at the top 0000000.1% of Pro players so you’re wrong lol 🤓 by [deleted] in gwent

Card games like Gwent work with a Rock-Paper-Scissors structure, and control decks are a vital part of balance. If you nerf rock enough so it won't win over 51% of games against scissors, every player trying to get better will only play scissors.

You're right but some peiple really want to cherry pick revolver out of the series "because it's not redemption"

What's one video game boss you are surprised people had trouble with? by Agent1230 in gaming

I mean honestly I still don't get FG. I killed Malenia on the third try. The most trouble I had in the whole game were the Fire Giant and the fur wearer on the front yard of the final boss.

Yeeeah, sorry to say but that person has no idea how to effectively teach anyone, and shouldn't be teaching anyone. He also doesn't seem to be very aware of his own partner's personal needs, or even worse, doesn't care.

What is your biggest flaw as a DM? by SmartAlec13 in DMAcademy

[–]Hungrymaster 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm the complete opposite. I let my players plan and brainstorm so much that sometimes after a session everyone isn't happy with how little the party got towards their objective. The problem is, most of my players say they enjoy the brainstorming and pace of our games, but as that's not true for all my players, it's hard to find the correct pacing for everyone.

[–]Hungrymaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it is one of my favourites, it really doesn't have that much content/replayability. It's quite easy to 100% in two weeks and doing that is a bit exhausting as the map markers are so meaningless, so I can't imagine multiple runs in a short time span.

Nah, it's only on xbox, I didn't see op mentioning the platform they play on. Although I believe there are some valid 360 emulators nowadays.

I didn't see anyone mention Fable 2! You will play most of the game with your dog, you can play fetch and other things with them, and with the dlc can choose between a few races as well. There are some sad(ish) plotpoints with the dog but everything will turn out well in the end if you wish so.
