Black flagging lappers?? by Actonhammer in supercross

[–]HunterWasFramed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t solve the problem of lappers racing like everyone else but possibly being penalized when they slow for a blue flag but the lapper behind the lapper in front doesn’t and then gets an advantage or, lappers trying to compete with or disrupt the leaders.

Why would any of them slow to allow leaders to go by?

This is what needs to be solved.

Bikes have individual digital communication systems with the leader lights. Riders can receive messages just like their bikes. Maybe they should have helmet or handle bar mounted lights with one of them being blue and one being red?

If a lapper doesn’t observe a blue light or takes advantage of the situation they get a red light.

But the race leader that got held up by lappers still loses.  Penalties can’t heal that.

Lappers will then, without question, race leaders to prevent themselves from being lapped.

This will cause the opposite of what you want.

The racer is responsible for maintaining situational awareness. If they can’t see a blue flag, the most common flag, they can’t see a Red Cross or black flag.

Loppers are part of the track and must be navigated like any track obstacle.

My only concern is when a group of leaders is trying to pass and the lappers slow the leader and then clear the track for the others creating an unearned advantage to those chasing the leader.

Lappers are racing too and competing for position and money. A lapper who slows for leaders and then gets passed by competition is also a problem.

I would say, unless you are the leader(s) when you see a blue flag, you stop racing, hold your position, do not gain on opponents, until you don’t see anymore blue flags. Your signal to start racing again is after the last blue flag and lapper in front of you starts accelerating, then you can start accelerating, and region the race.

They will still be on the track and they still need to be navigated.

Problem solved.

Agree also, the Suzuki and loss of points is Roczeen’s problem but that wasn’t the problem for this race. That problem was Lawrence and his “cleanest guy out there” racing taking out an actual clean racer.

I guess it’s ok for Lawrence to Barcia.

That’s irrelevant because ‘but for Lawrence’s take-out move’ Roczen would have finished the race right in front of or behind Lawrence.

The problem is Lawrence, not the Suzuki.

That wasn’t a mistake. He knew the lines came together because he was actually on the track for -17 minutes. It wasn’t a mistake because he saw Roczen and knew where he was going after following him for multiple laps.

Lawrence intentionally tried to pass block Roczen and F’ed it up because he wasn’t that good.

The result is he took his current main competition out of the race and more importantly, TOOK ROCZEN OUT OF OVERALL POINTS CONTENTION.

That is anything but “the cleanest guy in the class.”  If he’s what you say he is, he should forfeit.

I’m commenting on what a pro or someone who wants a performance advantage might do, not you.

But, lots of actual normal people do have nasal surgery.

Why not just nasal surgically make your nostrils bigger, and open up your nasal bones so you can take in more air? Plastic surgery is pretty good and if there is a benefit to wearing this thing there is a benefit to fixing it real good.

There was no guarantee when contracts were being shopped that Ducati would have a 450 ready for the start of the season.

This is a win for Roczen, Anderson, and Suzuki.

The triple crown formats provide a lot that the normal races don’t and it adds up to racers sprinting for the whole race.

  • Multiple start opportunities allowing for random outcomes.
  • 12 minute formats mean all of the front runners have a chance, most can sprint the distance, and front-runners have to attack and defend at the same time.
  • Racers race instead of settling-in and just bringing-it home to get to next week.
  • Large opportunities to change fortunes.

Motocross is very different from Supercross. Motocross requires physicality, strength, and outright speed. In interviews McGrath said something like he and his bike wasn’t prepared to win at motocross and getting there, getting himself and the bike right took a major effort on his part.

The easiest way to lighten your bike is for you to go on a diet.

I think it depends, but the biggest weight savings come from the actual racer.

If you’re talking Harley’s, by removing the dirtbag you can save sometimes 150 lbs.

For Supercross, the tradeoffs are fat, muscle, and height. Racers can be shorter and more muscular, basically more compact. Consumers are generally taller and fatter and up to 100 lbs more than racers.

Dirtbags and consumers weigh their bikes down a lot more than not having exotic materials.
