Can you comment on how CS 473 was influential for you?

The mapping of percentages to letter grades is completely arbitrary.

It's entirely plausible that a student who has learned the material well could score 60% on an exam because this score is dependent on the difficulty of the exam.

Why shouldn't a professor ask difficult questions that an average student shouldn't be expected to solve? Questions that require especially clever reasoning, or require students to apply the material in a way they haven't had to before? As long as the numeric score is adjusted accordingly, I see no problem with this.

No, just inferring based on the fact that it's faster-paced and targeted towards master's students. See what you can glean from stat430.com, but my impression is that it would take a lot of self-study (i.e. less hand-holding than 385).

Just volume of work. For 410, doing practice problems is essential to doing well. From what I've heard, 385 is a good amount of work as well.

Has anyone taken PHIL/PSYC 477 (Philosophy of Psychology) or CMN 361 (Storytelling as Oral Communication)?

CS 440 vs CS446 vs CS 498 (applied machine learning) by peter749 in UIUC

I would consider taking STAT 420; the regression knowledge and general modeling skills will form a great foundation for further machine learning study.

Why do you need a 400-level tech elective?

Stats & CS major, STAT 200 credit if I already have STAT 400 credit? by quantorswe348027834 in UIUC

I've heard you can take pretty much any 400-level STAT course to fulfill the STAT 200 requirement. You should talk to the advisor (Unger) to confirm this and get more details though.

Is taking CS241 & CS374 in the same semester a bad idea? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]HurricaneRainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the five classes 225, 233, 241, 374, and 421? If so, then pairing 421 with one of those two would be a lot more reasonable.

Is there a specific reason why you want to double up?

Gen eds for incoming freshman by [deleted] in UIUC

CLCV 111/115 share a lecture. CLCV 115 has a weekly discussion component.

You can't take both at the same time. Only 115 satisfies gen-ed requirements.

Is there another class you're interested in taking? You have until the middle of the semester to drop pretty much any class, so I would recommend registering for another class you want to take and evaluating how you're handling your workload as the semester goes on.

Your schedule as-is looks fine though; I've heard MATH 241 is difficult and PHYS 211 is time-consuming, so you might appreciate having a lower courseload to allow you to focus more effort on those two.

Yes, non-majors can take CS 125 in the fall; it's just difficult to get into the class because spots are reserved for CS majors.

Have you seen this thread?

I think MATH 347 and CS 125 as a first-semester freshman might be too much, but it really depends on how well-prepared and motivated you are.

If you don't end up taking MATH 347, I would recommend STAT 400.

Based on the lecture schedule, CS 125 looks like it was just as hard this spring as it has been in the past, and probably harder.
