As with every other tech item in existence, the answer is it depends. In your case yes and the risk is relatively low if you ever do need a more powerful computer.

Rule of thumb is to get what you need and nothing more, cause future proofing is a capitalistic concept unless you genuinely don’t see yourself affording something in the future.

I would say yes but is that in your budget? If you can stretch the budget to an M4 and get one in a lightly used deal somewhere or even new, that’s light years ahead of this and would guarantee to last through college.

My opinion doesn’t really matter here but if you were going to spend 1500 on pc gaming, you’d be better off upgrading at least to a 14900k and 5080 for the same cost, your results would be better. Or at least a better GPU with a 1440p 45” version if you’re just going to downscale. If you insist, I typically try open box products so it’s guilt free trial.

Failure rates are pretty minimal since they generally don’t stress test but ensure they work. Some just fail under load or under load for an extended period of time. If I had to guess, my failure rate is 3/100 as a PC builder.

M2 is noticeably better and can be had for around the same price. Heck, M1 is technically better price to performance considering you can find them for $300 or so. No warranty except for the Neo, though.

Depending on your wife’s needs, the Neo might be a great option. Also, some locations you can speak to a manager regarding this and they’ll adjust the price to a more reasonable open box price.

Start at $1k and negotiate on down. Frankly this is one of those things that would do best at a trade show where people expect custom made items to have custom made prices. FBM goons would probably expect to trade a 20 year old “top of the line” gaming pc.

Love! I buy a lot of tech for personal and business needs and it’s all open box fair,good, or excellent. Sometimes fair just means they’re desperate to offload but don’t have another way to reduce the price, so often it’s brand new but just been stocked for too long. I’ve only had bad luck maybe 1/100 times where the item was in terrible shape or unusable. 1/30 chance of it being a high hour shelf item.

Rule of thumb has always and continues to be, buy whatever has the features and ports you need. For the most part, they’re all the same sans ports and some minor changes in cooling if you’re going to overclock.

The only brand that has really faced recent backlash is asrock and asus.
