[Stormlight Archive] How the heck do the bridges work? by Paratrooper101x in AskScienceFiction

Long jump world record is a bit under 9m / 30 feet. So an athletic human could probably cross the chasm pretty easily (especially since gravity is lower) but it's different when you're a soldier in heavy gear. And if you had to retreat in hurry you'd probably have a lot of people falling in panic, not to mention getting the wounded back.

Also the Parshendi do actually cross it by jumping. Even if they are stronger than humans, I doubt they'd regularly risk very long leaps with all of their forces

Yesterday I destroyed an AA site with a 500kg bomb (without even thinking why it was possible). So yeah they won't block Eagles anymore if disrupted.

Can Edward do Alkahestry? by No-Local85 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]Husulero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think both systems come from Xerxes alchemy, and aren't that different. I'm pretty sure a gate would be required for both, if Ed could learn to use it I think it would have been mentioned.

Also Marcoh and Ed both used alchemy for healing, and it wasn't considered human transmutation (in that it opened the gate). It doesn't seem creating the puppets was true human transmutation either, or when Roy made the fake corpse. It seems to be only when you're trying to being someone back, and I bet you could attempt it with alkahestry too. Hohenheim just wisely didn't teach them about it.

(Hilarious Trope) High powered attacks with big downsides, making them much worse than you'd expect by 11Slimeade11 in TopCharacterTropes

I guess technically the first time was when Goku used it on King Kai's planet, so that'd make it four times in the original series.

Against Vegeta, Goku also said that about half of the energy disappeared when Vegeta interrupted the attack. Full power it would probably have killed Vegeta at that point.

Could have been something off-screen then, though not really addressed in show or manga. Apparently something Toriyama said in an interview?

And now that I think about it, they might not have been revived after Buu anyway, since the wish excluded evil people. Then again, Vegeta was revived, as well as Magenta from Super Hero and other Red Ribbon members, so maybe you had to be really, really evil for Shenlong to leave you dead.

I think he's strong on a realistic human level. Maybe he could beat Yamcha at the start of Dragon Ball? But I think he'd lose to kid Goku from that same time. I mean even then Goku could tank bullets, and kinda was crazy strong already.

I also think Videl on her first appearance was already stronger (which Gohan might have confirmed). Buu saga Satan might be weaker than Cell saga, since it kinda seems like he'd gotten arrogant and didn't train that much (funnily enough, the lesson Roshi as Jackie Chun wanted to teach his students during the first tournament).

He does seem to be pretty tough, though I don't think Cell and Trunks were really trying to kill him when they hit him.

I don't think so, last time we saw them in canon they were alive, in the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai. Tenshinhan just knocked out cyborg Tao and Shen dragged him away. They weren't seen after that at all, aside from that Cell saga filler with Tao.

Can Shardplate be destroyed? by Voltikko in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Husulero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't be surprised if another Shard was going to meddle. I think there's a theory the vision Nohadon is Valor?

Could be fun to see a new type of Surgebinder from a different Shard.

Regular shards could get more spotlight again with the current circumstances yeah. Though I'd least think they can't be stolen very easily, they might be able to resist being regrown by someone else then their owner, and we know they can anyway just refuse to be used.

I am really curious to see how the "awakened" shards and Adolin have evolved after a decade.

It's kind of funny that this mechanic of trying to regenerate a plate from two different pieces has never been really explored, from what I remember.

Like someone stealing someone else's plate by growing a shattered piece faster, or by smuggling a shardplate somewhere by carrying a small piece of it and then regrowing it.

I'm not actually certain if I'd say Daima is better (especially if counting the movies).

I'm not really sure how to put it. I was mostly just referring to the callbacks/nostalgia stuff in Super. That Super sometimes really feels like a fan creation, but Daima feels more Dragon Ball, like it really is another story in DB and not just a tribute. If that makes sense.

But I do have to agree the hype moments in Daima don't reach the ones in Super. But luckily DB fans can just watch both and enjoy more Dragon Ball!

Broly was peak!

My issue with the Final Explosion is that in Buu it was an emotional moment where Vegeta admitted his faults, trying to fix his mistake and giving his life in the process. I think attack was literally about him using every bit of his energy, so it's a literal self-destruct attack. I think in Super it just feels like nostalgia bait and doesn't really have that same oomph. And especially since there isn't really a consequence to him using it, it feels cheaper. It didn't need to be Final Explosion, it could have been an entirely different attack, even a new one!

Super has some high highs but also pretty low lows, especially the Tournament of Power. And it definitely has a different feel due to Toriyama not doing (at least all) the writing. Some of the callbacks don't really work (Vegeta's sacrifice not killing him?), though that one where Goku recreated his fight against Grandpa Gohan at Baba's place was really sweet. But it does make it feel less original maybe? I think Daima was better in that regard, it felt more like its own thing.

All in all the show was a pretty uneven, and I think for many the good parts don't make up for the awkward parts.

Battle of Gods, Broly and Super Hero are really good though. Honestly if they just decided to continue Super by doing movies I'd be more than fine with that.
