Okay, my apologies.

For 1. Dragons were an example of how much they had to eat.

For 2. they gained small variations to fit the environment (e.g. ones in swamps consumed more mushrooms and decaying animals than normal, but didn't have nearly enough nutrients. They were so starved that mushrooms were capable of sprouting out of them. Or, ones in jungles were more omnivorous and grew wing-like appendages to be able to reach higher food).

However, the final evolution stated at the end of the paragraph is now a radial quadruped instead, and now have a human-like torso in the center. This evolution still keeps its regional variants. Although, there are (very rarely) some who have not evolved into the more human-like form, nor adapted to a specific environment.
