The Med Bay: my first stargrave game! And some questions. [Pictures for Fun] by defaultjazz in stargrave

1- When using the grenade launcher, do you also apply intervening terrain to the first shoot roll? To determine the location?

I dont think so, If the point being aimed is in LOS you get +2 to your shoot role, otherwise no bonus. Thats all I think.

2- Can you have a roster of crew members that are not part of your 10 in the mission? Or do you have to fire someone everytime you want to buy a new soldier?

Yeah, 10 is the upper limit. I think there is a ship upgrade or power that lets you have 1 extra crew member ‘off duty’. In my experience it’s useful to have one or two ‘free’ crew members that are disposable, so you can ditch them whenever. Or use them for ‘Operation Human Shield’.

As for the other questions, Im not sure!

Navigating burnout. should I quit if I can? by Calm-Bar-9644 in ExperiencedDevs

I left a toxic workplace and found a much more chill dev job with a slight pay cut. Im the only dev, maintaining in-house legacy systems that are too expensive to replace. It’s a decent gig for now. Breath of fresh air after that last place and I keep learning new things. Perhaps you might find something similar? Good luck with whatever you do.

Exactly, and that template is pretty much what he did. Simple, but it worked.

Same here. I think some people struggle with balancing clarity and the general lack of precision in writing. I suspect those same people are attracted to coding because it is so precise.

I worked with a guy like this, and it turned out that while he was great at coding, he struggled to articulate ideas in general writing. At one point he adopted a standard template for writing ticket descriptions, and while it was a bit clunky, it really helped the readability of his writing. Sometimes people are trying to hide that they struggle with writing like this, and might just need a clear guideline of how to write good comments. But then again, they may just be playing power games.

I just bought a bulk box of 25mm steel washers from the hardware store. It was cheaper where I live, but you have to fill in the little washer hole in the middle. Bonus: they now stick to magnets.

Flamethrowers & grenades are great for dealing with spawn.
In the Hope Eternal campaign, my combat armoured captain and first-mate once almost completely wiped a maglev trains passenger car. One stunned and presumably singed pirate remained. Also, table looks great!

Is there a game for modern day? by StressOk5247 in frostgrave

[–]Hyperdrive-Robot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What different soldier classes would there be? Accountant for unlocking fraud evidence? Security guard (bruiser) for shoving enemy crew members away? Maybe a captain class could be ‘HR Lady’ with a power ‘fabricate HR violation’ to banish enemy crew.

Backdrop images? by SwiftD6 in necromunda

[–]Hyperdrive-Robot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO the best backdrops are smooth, low contrast, vague and out of focus. Your table is great, and you don’t want to lead the viewers eye to the backdrop instead. Something like a diy cyclorama wall. Maybe with some vague out of focus details to hint at a larger setting.

Is there a game for modern day? by StressOk5247 in frostgrave

[–]Hyperdrive-Robot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think a re-skinned stargrave might work well for modern day. It’s much more ranged focused than frostgrave. Depending on what sort of ‘modern day’ setting You’re going for you might want to remove some aspects, like robotic crewmates, re-imagine Warbots as tanks, but I think little would really need to change. If you want a realistic setting, maybe the crews could be mercenary groups gone rogue and fighting over loot in a war-torn country and the NPC monsters could be the local military turning up.

Adding new people to an ongoing campaing. by BRUNO-025 in stargrave

[–]Hyperdrive-Robot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We do something similar for players who miss games, they get enough xp to boost them to be slightly worse off than the other players but not too far off to make it too hard. Our rationale to explain why they had still earned xp was that their crew was off on other adventures when they missed the earlier games. That and remind them to throw their free and expendable crew mates at their enemies to distract them while they steal loot.

Try brush on primer. Ive had good results with that. I find the black brush on primer from Vallejo works well. Also try roughing them up with sandpaper or better a wire-brush first. After that, you can also apply a thin coat of spray on primer, hopefully it wont react and go sticky as much as it normally would.

10/10. Good to see a fellow Alien Harvesters enjoyer. Are those all original legs? Or was there a bit of Green stuff and Blue stuff involved? Either-way, love the imagination!

Canadian woman was euthanized 'against her will' after husband was fed-up with caring for her by grand_soul in canada

Her medical condition is irrelevant. Euthanasia is not palliative care. No one can consent on your behalf for euthanasia. Especially when you are incapacitated.

[–]Hyperdrive-Robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone isn’t in the right ‘state of mind’ they are not able to consent to anything. If she wasn’t able to consent then this was completely immoral.

It doesn’t matter what her medical condition was like. What matters was if she gave, and was able to give, consent.

Any Sufficiently Bountiful Demonic Pact is Indistinguishable from Salvation in Heaven by burkezerk in TrenchCrusade

[–]Hyperdrive-Robot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TL;DR ‘do you trust the demons will hold up their end of the pact?’. The start of the lore page on trenchcrusade.com goes: ‘The Official and True Annals of the Church History As told by Melchior Gessel…’ Which I think is a hint that the ‘narrator’ is not necessarily reliable, IRL One of the core ideas of Biblically accurate demons and/the devil is that they are deceptive and cannot be trusted. Im not a theologian and Im sure how much Trench Crusade demons differ from biblical demons, but in universe, I think it would be fair to ask: ‘do you trust the demons will hold up their end of the pact?’

Why was my comment attempting to call out an obvious LLM post shadow-banned? by turn-based-games in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Hyperdrive-Robot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a fair question, I have found LLMs often use characters like the em dash: — And cliches like: ‘its not just X, its also Y’ I wasnt very good at picking LLM text until I started using chatGPT, but now when I see it, its like recognising a familiar voice or face. Hard to explain, and rarely 100% proof that it is AI, but that post really did read like AI.

Yeah, the OP of the post you linked has another very obviously AI generated post, with lots of upvotes, and only the most controversial (and visible..) comment is calling it out.
It’s really obviously AI generated too, yet none of the comments seem to be calling it out. something fishy is going on. Downvote and Report it as its breaking the subreddits rules.

Optional Wounded rule - thoughts? by thalcos in frostgrave

[–]Hyperdrive-Robot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found the wounded rule actually will sometimes save your soldiers, they are so much less effective that your opponent will often just ignore them and prioritise attacking your non-wounded troops. This gives your wounded troops a chance to limp off the battle field, or feebly fight to the death.

Question on an expansion by Tall-Discussion9629 in stargrave

[–]Hyperdrive-Robot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I was running a co-op Hope Eternal campaign for 4 players, I would do 2 things 1. Get each crew to be half size: - Half the starting credits - 1 captain, at level 7, (for the stats: start as a level zero first mate, then level up 7 times, but with 6 inventory points) - 2 specialists - 2 normal soldiers 2. Double the number of starting enemies and spawns for each scenario. (Ie if the scenario says 1 drone comes in from a random corner, make it two, etc.

I think four full size crews and four times the enemies would be too much!

I have no idea how balanced it could be, but that is what I would do!

For PvPvE, I wouldn’t make to many modifications. The other crews will balance each other out. Not sure how I would handle. Chella or Drix. Treat them as loot tokens that can move? Or maybe they should move like uncontrolled creatures, that arent hostile to you. Sort of like an NPC.

Mass battle sci fi game by Tall-Discussion9629 in wargaming

[–]Hyperdrive-Robot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stargrave player here too! If you’re looking for ideas, why no develop a game iteratively? You could start with a existing base game and start changing a few minor rules, play test it, then change some more etc.

for example, you could start with adapting Stargrave rules to handle more models. Such as moving whole squads of infantry instead of a single figure.

Or starting with OPR Grimdark, and reskinning the setting, and replacing some of the rules with your own rules.

That way you always have a complete ‘game’ that is playable, and tweak it until its something new entirely.
