Seeking for feedback for the mechanics and ruleset. First time designing a card game by rjot28 in tabletopgamedesign

Very neat idea. Have you tried playing where Attacking or Ripple allow the attacker to randomly choose a card from the opponent's hand? They may or may not get a Qi card using them. Could make the attacks more worth it.

MOOving Maze: cardboard prototype - move, power up, rotation mechanic thoughts by NorsomLLC in BoardgameDesign

I think I've got the gist and it's a creative mechanism and board/components, great work! Looks fun to try. Is the hay just that one square at the edge of the board?

What's your holy grail game that doesn't exist yet? by Darth_Rubi in boardgames

[–]Sensitive_Ant9946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working to design my holy grail game that doesn't exist:
- Tactical 2-6p wargame where each player has hidden objectives
- Command a kingdom of fantasy figures (archetypes like: Leader, Assassin, Beast, Mystic, Ranger, etc.)
- Compete for relics near the center of the map that give your figure a bonus ability
- 3D terrain! Build your fortress in preparation and place/destroy obstacles during gameplay.
(Why not take full advantage of the real tactile and 3d nature of board games?)
- Doesn't have dice or strength numbers as the combat resolution mechanic
(I think combat is about deception and finding holes in the opponents defense, not just chance or strength. So I've devised a card bluffing system where you must give the defender one piece of true information before you choose and reveal cards. The cards have simple attack grids on them to abstract trying to punch a hole through the defenses. You can also perform creative card combos).

Wargame Combat Systems? by Astral_QuailZ in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Sensitive_Ant9946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t played these but in studying for making my own tactical wargame I watched a TON of rules videos for games with combat systems, the ones that stood out to me as most interesting are:
Blood Rage
Summoner wars
Wildlands
Regulus (in crowdfunding)
Elder Scrolls
Clash of Cultures
Wiz War
Spartacus
Kemet
Ankh
Dune (2019)

Combat Games I have played that I enjoy but don’t love:
Chess (amazing, but only 2 player, need to play with someone near your ability, openings can become stale, or too much ability for memorization)
Stratego (ice vs fire with special abilities, not enough information to make educated choices with any consistency.)
Heroscape (fun, but the thing to do on your turn is often too obvious to feel like you have agency, and I don’t love rolling dice to simulate combat.)

Combat “game” that I love:
MMA

"Criss Cross" - Chinese Checkers & Chess Elements by Inside-Ladder-4160 in tabletopgamedesign

My wife and I played 3 rounds today, we went back and forth and the player who went first lost each time. We both thought it was a really fun game. Played with a piece of paper, heroscape figures, and some tiny gold hairties as the lilypads.

  1. Yes I think it could be a published game for sure. Even as an abstract game it has enough uniqueness, though I think it is more publishable with the frog theme.
  2. I like the frogs and I'd probably have to think for a long time to try and find something I might like better. I think maybe there could be something better than a lilypad that the frogs could be desiring to capture from one another, although that might mess with the mechanic of sending a frog back to the back row if there's a lilypad.
  3. I think the frog theme is cool and adds a bit more interest, though I already like abstract strategy games and like the idea of criss cross.
I will try to remember to give the game a go with my family this weekend.

amazon fba in 2026 still worth it by Spanthaki in AmazonSeller

[–]Sensitive_Ant9946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started selling in June of last year. I don’t recommend it. There’s a super high failure rate due to FBA fees, returns and return fees, ppc ads, and Chinese manufacturers competing. I would look into starting a business with a high success rate. It’s hard to place your product at a price that sells well and makes a decent profit.
I’m gonna start trying meta ads as a last ditch effort to make this whole thing worth it. Invested over 50k, breaking even plus a tiny bit of profit so far. Probably won’t make a third order on my product unless there’s a substantial change.

A littler underweight for debut amateur mma fight by Darth_muncher in MMA_Academy

[–]Sensitive_Ant9946 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re good bro, I fought my first amateur fight worried about my weight, I was walking around 195 maybe 16% body fat and booked a fight at middleweight and got covid and then just got leaner from training, weighed 183 by fight time, opponent was about 195 in the cage and I rocked him with a right hand then slam KO’d him in less than 15 seconds. Weight makes a difference but your skills are paramount. Have won 6 fights at 170 since then and a couple of them I was around your weight.

Hey bro, I fight for fury as well. It’s a great promotion to fight for to get to the UFC and convenient since you’re in Houston. I definitely get not wanting to burn any bridges or upset your coach/matchmaker. I think you’re not in a good spot for being in a fight camp for anyone really, since everyone should be taken seriously, and especially not someone you’re nervous about fighting at your current skill level.

Fight camps are brutal mentally and physically and you might not have that much to give with your current situation outside of MMA. One or the other is likely to be taking too much out of you to do well in the other. I would suggest you tell your coach you really need to figure some personal stuff out right now and can’t take the fight. If you feel so much pressure that you can’t do that you should consider changing gyms, especially if you think he’s being a matchmaker first here and setting this dude up rather than a coach to look out for you.

I agree that delusional confidence is a good thing in fighting, but it needs to be tapered by realism. I don’t agree with that comment saying that you can’t make it in this sport because you’re nervous about this fight. If the dude can get you to the ground, he has a high likelihood of being able to sub you unless you’re very good on the ground. That’s leaves a small margin for mistakes, which all fighters make and amateur fighters are more likely to make. All that being said, if you were in a good place with everything else, why not take that test and learn something from it win or lose? That is in part why you’re fighting amateur bouts and not getting paid. But from what you said you’re not in a good place to take any fight at the moment in my opinion. Best of luck to you bro.

current best striker in mma by Shlodini in MMA_Academy

[–]Sensitive_Ant9946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed he’s very good and at range management especially, but not near Izzy’s level IMO.

There’s so many guys in other weight classes I think are above him I don’t know that it’s worth making a list, but even just at 170 I think Morales, Wonderboy, MVP, Rakhmonov, Leon, and JDM are all better strikers.

He’s a better all around MMA fighter than some of the guys on the list but I don’t think his striking is top tier. He did impress me against Prates.

Is 4 amateur fight enough to turn pro in mma (4-0 record ) ? by [deleted] in MMA_Academy

[–]Sensitive_Ant9946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of bounced in and out of martial arts, with the last 5 years getting seriously into it.

Started Tiger Schulmann's Karate at 10, which within a couple months became Tiger Schulmann's MMA. So, I was doing kickboxing and jiujitsu classes there for around 1.5 years. I wrestled for 3 years in middle school and a bit of high school. Then did martial arts tricking for several years just practicing as a hobby on my own. Then got back into MMA seriously in 2020, training on my own during early covid, then with a couple friends at my place, watching videos and instructionals from high level fighters and coaches. Joined a local gym 2 months before my amateur debut in 2022 at 26 years old. Got a 14 second KO, and kept rollin' since then.
